Society: Clubs: Lodges: Churches EBELL BENEFIT CARD PARTY IS WELL ATTENDED A FAIR of consequence among the society ladies of Anaheim, was the card party given yesterday by The Mesdames Vic La Mont, W. E. Duchwerth, L. P. Bonnat, Fred Schneider, W. F. Junge and Lee Echoliz, in the two lobbies of the Colonial, the guest list numbering one-hundred and eight ladies. Twenty-three tables of whist and other games were played, high scores going to Mrs. C. Jacoby, J. H. Garnett and Mrs. C. Harrison, with the consolation being awarded to Mrs. G. W. Closson. Hallowe'en decorative features were used and a luncheon of pumpkin pie, doughnuts, coffee, candles and nuts, with punch, were served. The affair was a benefit for the Boeh Club of Anaheim, and the funds will be applied toward the club house for what the ladies are so energetically working. Friends of the club who were unable to attend, but who sent contributions are the Mesdames Theo. Roberts, McPherson, Sidney Prince, Muckenthaler, Hutchinson, Oscar Heying, Schiller, H. Noll., J. J. Schneider and Downey. The coffee was donated by the Holland Grocery Co., and the tables by the Graham Furniture Co. Out of town guests were the Mesdames Gaby Arnold, Los Angeles; Passmore; Los Angeles; C. H. Fisher, Chine; I. F. Been, Hyannis, Neb.; and McKendan; Blattner, Klein and Bertenstock, of Placentia. Playing were the Mesdames Peck, Reims, T. Hedges, H. Fleshner, Robt. Boney, E. Anderson, H. Stock, A. E. Schumacher, L. B. Bevier, Roy Lovering, R. Wilson, J. Johnson, W. S. Koeh- MERRY CROWD AT HATHAWAY RANCH COSTUME PARTY ONE of the very nicest parties of the Hallowe'en season was that given last evening at the ranch home of Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Hathaway and Mrs. M. E. Canby,the guests all being en masque,Greeting the comers were spooks all about the yard,waving their arms,emitting weird guttural sounds and showing their hospitality as such creatures do at this season. Prizes were awarded for the best costumes,and to Mr. and Mrs.Earl Paris went the lady's prize.She represented "Topsy,"of true Uncle Tom's Cabin origin,and Mrs.Clem Staples,charming indeed,in evening gown,with accessories,was given the prize,not altogether for his fetching gown but for the graceful manner in which he handled his train and fan,and his lovely lady's manners.Mrs.Riley as Pierrott was a sprightly little lady;Mrs.Prince,a dainty sailor maiden;Mr. and Mrs.Phillips,a retiring Persian girl with well and lan;Mrs.flower girl;Mrs.M nurse;Mrs.Staples,girl;Mrs.Bloom,Picklele,and Miss B girls;Mrs.Canby,and Mrs.Hathawadeen.Mr.Maas was the kaiser;Mr.E and Mr.Hathaway boys;Mr.Conklin,the hall bedroom of Uncle Sam;Mr.P pirate,and Mr,and strolling Italia tertailed with seven Mrs.Cassaleggi in the guitar. MICHAEL'S GUILD FOOD SALE The ladies of St. Michael's Guild will hold a cooked food sale tomorrow afternoon beginning at 1:30 in the Feed and Fuel store on West Center street. Cakes, pies, cookies, doughnuts and other goodies will be on bands, and it will be a good place to buy the sweets for Sunday dinner. WHITE TEMPLE ITEMS The Young People's department will take charge of the opening exercises for the Adults' department of the Sunday school next Sunday morning. Every member of both departments are urged to be there promptly at 9:30. A very important session of the Men's class will be held next Sunday when Dr. Glessinger will address the men. All members and all men not attending some other class in Anaheim are requested to be present. FREE LECTURE Mr. Edward Stack will speak at the Anaheim high school auditorium Sunday at 7:30 p.m. His subject will be "Millions Now Living Will Never Die." Mr. Stack is one of the ablest and best known laymen Bible lecturers in the southwest. It is said by those who have heard him that his arguments are very convincing and especially timely in view of the world anrest, as he shows from the Scriptures that the happy outcome of present conditions. BIG CLASS MASK PARTY The Sunshine Philathea class will have a big banquet and spook party in the basement room of the M. E. church on Monday evening. The banquet will start at 6:30 and will be followed by the spook-party. All girls who come are to bring a sheet, pillow case and mask. All members please notify the president not later than Sunday if they intend to come. Friends of the class are cordially invited. R. A. M. IN-FIELD DAY MEET On October 29th, the Royal Arch Masons of the 19th district will have a field day. SHOWER AS A FAREWELL The Chat 'En Seau was very charmingly entertained last night at the home of Mrs. R. E. Campbell. The girls passed the early part of the evening in conversation and sewing on their fancy work. As every one was busily working, Mrs. Campbell handed Miss Sylvia Mae Dumas a bunch of packages all wrapped in pretty ribbons and paper. This is the last meeting of which Miss Dumas will be with the girls, and they showed their appreciation of her acquaintance by favoring her with a surprise miscellaneous shower. After the excitement had subsided, pumpkin pie and water was served to the guests. The members present were Mesdames H. K. Boyd, Welcome M. Ward N. L. Dancing and games were other entertainment features, after which the call for luncheon was sounded in appropriate ghostly manner, and upon arrival at the tables, which were spread on the lawn, a Hallowe'en menu was served, which was not at all ghostly in kind. But someone had visited the tables before the guests arrived and removed all the pretty, original place cards, table decorations and popcorn. That the thief was no ghost was indicated when a trail of popcorn and healthy looking men's footprints were followed into the orchard. However, the luncheon had not been placed on the tables, and consequently was saved to the guests. Participating in the merry party were Messrs. and Meadames Clem Staples, Harry Riley, Sidney Prince, Earl Faris, Claude Phillips, W. A. Luce, Ralph Maas, A. S. Blom, Cassaleggi; the Misses Bianche Mickle and Lottie Buckles and the Messrs. Epstein and Conklin. LONG BEACH PAIR WEDDED HERE A very quiet wedding was solemnized last night at the parsonage of the Rev. J. A. Geissinger at 10:30, when Miss Mabel C. Beauchamp and Mr. F. Edgar Place, both of Long Beach, were united in the holy bonds of matrimony. They were accompanied by T. R. Beauchamp, brother of the bride-and-Miss Mary F. Fahay. The single ring ceremony being used. The bride was adorned in a dark traveling suit with accessories to match. The groom is a prominent young business man of Long Beach, being in the auto business. Mrs. Place is one of the popular young ladies of the younger set and her marriage came as a surprise to her many friends. DOCTOR-SLAYER TO DIE RICHMOND, Va., Oct. 27—Dr. Wilmarth Hadley, former army surgeon, convicted of the murder of his wife after 40 minutes' deliberation by a jury here, was sentenced to the electric chair.
