CHAMBER AT G. G.
HAS BUSY SESSION
GARDEN GROVE, Oct. 14—The regular meeting of the Garden Grove co. of C. was held in the Y. M. C. A. building Monday evening, Oct. 16 with Dr. C. C. Violett, chairman, presiding. The meeting was called to order and the secretary read the minutes of the previous meeting, which were duly accepted. Report on a public camp site for Garden Grove was given by S. Horowitz, who stated that some of the objectional features had been eliminated from the present location, which was now being used by Americans, and asked that the committee be discharged, which request was granted by the chairman.
J. G. Allen gave a financial report on the Huntington Beach fair, and stated that there was a slight deficit. It was voted that the chamber of commerce reimburse the committee, and also that the committee in charge be allowed personal expense in connection with arranging the Garden Grove exhibit at the fair. The committee was tendered a vote of thanks for their splendid work in connection with the exhibit.
A motion was made and unanimously carried, condemning the management of the Huntington Beach fair for allowing concession and gambling devices to occupy a prominent place in the exhibit tents. A vote of thanks was given C. B. Henry, local road superintendent of this district, for the splendid work he is doing in cutting down weeds along the streets in Garden Grove.
A committee composed of R. B. Richey and P. C. Thompson were appointed to select a temporary building for the branch county free library.
A motion was made and carried that the chairman select a committee of five to investigate the proposition of the erection of a community hall for Garden Grove.
The secretary was instructed to procure membership cards, to be used in a membership campaign.
Motion was made and carried that the president name a committee to devise ways and means for protecting the town and community again fires, and other depredations during the winter.
It was also voted to have officers from the sheriff's office in connection with the local officers thoroughly patrol the town Halloween eve, to prevent depredations on that night.
There being no further business, on motion the meeting adjourned.
District Elder David McLeod will conduct quarterly meeting services in the Free Methodist church this week beginning Friday evening and continuing over Sunday. The public is cordially invited to all of these services, F. A. Ames, pastor.

GARDEN GROVE, Oct. 14—Mr. and Mrs. George Holte went to Glendale last Saturday afternoon to attend the funeral of the latter's oldest sister, Mrs. Affa Wickerd, who died Thursday at her home in Glendale.
Mrs. Wickerd was 86 years old or age and leaves four sons and four daughters. Interment was in Forest Lawn cemetery.
When pumping from a machine, after school hours Monday, Andy Hale, seven-year-old son of M. H. Hale, fell on his head and as a result was unconscious for several hours. He is getting along nicely but will be unable to attend school this week.
The J. O. C. class of the M. E., Sunday school land teacher, Mrs. Emmeit Smith accompanied by Miss Mattie Chaffee spent Saturday afternoon at Huntington Beach. About 25 girls went and the afternoon was passed in surf bathing after which a picnic supper was spread on the beach.
Last Sunday was Rally Day at the Baptist church. During the Sunday school hour a fine program was given by the children. There was a good attendance and each one was given a rally day button.
W. R. Aldrich, manager of the Garden Grove Rock Bottom store attended at banquet for the managers of the Orange-co Rock Bottom store at James' Confectionery in Santa Ana. Wednesday evening. Thirty were present and the president from Los Angeles, gave a good talk.
Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Butler departed Monday for a two months' visit with relatives in Ohio.
Mr. and Mrs. W. Urwick and daughter Mexine, of Pomona, spent Sunday at the T. E. Niles home.
William Tidball, who is attending Orcidenial college, was a visitor in Garden Grove Saturday evening.
Msr. John McClinnon, of Santa Anas spent Tuesday with Miss Ether Jacques.
Ed Pearson, Eldon Butler and Hay Christenson and families spent Sunday dove building above Colton.
Mr. Frisbee has accepted a position in the E. R. Schneider grocery. He commenced his duties Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Natlond and family and Isabell Northeross visited flenda at Sah Juan Capistrano Sunday afternoon.
Chanceree Launders and Raymond Bradfield spent the week-end at Santa Maria.
W. W. Blair and family motored to the Orange-co park-Sunday.
Mrs. W. H.Newcomer, of Los Angeles, was a luncheon guest of Mrs. Mary Edmunds Tuesday.
Misses Olive and Mabel Northeross spent Monday in Los Angeles.
Fred Winterts of Arcadia lauded with tonsilitis at the P.M.German home.

Miss Mildred Harper, who is employed in Los Angeles, is spending a week's vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Harper. After her vacation she will remain at home, going back and forth to work.
Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Dozier, of Orange, Enjoyed a venison dinner at the Ed Dozier home Sunday.
E. Wells and family of Long Bench spent Sunday at the J. A. Bodenhamer home.
Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Zorman, of Lomita spent the week-end at the C.B. Henry home.
Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Hand, of Fresno, and Mr. and Mrs. James Henry, of Santa Ana, spent Tuesday at the C.B. Henry home. Mr. and Mrs. James Henry returned this week from a three weeks' visit at the Hand home in Fresno.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Shields spent from Friday until Sunday with friends at Santa Barbara.
Friends of J. A. Bodenhamer will be glad to know he is much improved since his operation about three weeks ago.

REPAIR DETOUR NEAR S.A.
The detour from Santa Ana to Chapman avenue by way of West Santa Clara and Flower has been put in good condition within the city limits. The city did the work.
There will be a big double bill at the Fairyland tonight, four acts of standard vaudeville and "Appearances," a Paramount picture starring David Powell.
"The Lure of Youth," a Metro picture, will be the feature of attraction tonight and tomorrow night at the Grand. There will be in the way of an added attraction, a comedy.
There will be a minstrel show near the depot today and tonight. The big tent theatre will seat 1200 people. There are 40 people, a band and orchestra, and it is said to be the only show of its kind in the world.
HELD ON SUSPICION
Christian Blockmeyer, 38, held by the Santa Ana police today on suspicion, following his arrest in a box car in the Santa Fe yards by Officers Elliott and Ryan, who said they found a revolver in his suit case.
