Tuesday, October 11, 1921 SAME LEGION CARD IF LIGHTS ARE ON Providing the local power company doesn't decide to turn the lights off at the last moment and that Jupiter Plavius doesn't get sore, the regular boxing program scheduled for last Thursday night will be given this week at the American Legion stadium. A good crowd had lined up at the Rattle plant last Thursday night when the lights went out and after being off for an hour the officials of the club decided to postpone the show. No change will be made in the card, according to an announcement by the management. Soldier Graham and Tiger Johnny Kline meeting in the main event. Both Graham and Kline are staggers and some real action ought to result from their argument. That the semi-windup will be worth the price of admission is the opinion of many of the local fans, even the little boxing is shown during the bout. Father Time George Moss and K. O. Swail, of Santa Ana, are the two gentlemen who will dispute each other's supremacy in that mill. Moss, one of the oldest members of the four-round circle, appeared here in performance of the club, and put on some show. He is credited with being one of the game's best comedians. What looks to be a good scrap is the bout between Joe Chaney and Young Frank. Chaney is well known to local fans and has given some good shows. Young Burton, the colored flash from Los Angeles, will take on Kid Romeo. Burton is one of the most willing mixers seen in a local ring and in both starts here has won many followers. The balance of the card is: Young Garcia vs. Bud Garber, and a curtain raiser between George Elimor and An Unknown. SANTA CRUZ PAPER DETAILS CONTEST Here is how a Santa Cruz paper reported the Rita championship. ANNOUNCE FOOTBALL SCHEDULE FOR J. C. The Junior college conference at Ontario was in a measure a victory for Fullerton. All of the expense of the long trip to San Diego will be borne by San Diego. Representatives from all the junior colleges of So Calif. were there, including Pomona, Chaffey, Santa Ana, Santa Barbara, Fullerton, San Diego and Riverside. All of these schools except Pomona and Santa Barbara will enter football teams. Pomona and Santa Barbara do not have enough men out for football to enter a team. The Junior college football schedule follows: October 28—Chaffey and Riverside at Chaffey, Santa Ana and San Diego at Santa Ana. November 4.—Chaffey and Santa Ana at San Diego. November 8.—Riverside and Fullerton at Fullerton. November 11.—Chaffey and San Diego at San Diego. November 18.—Riverside and San Diego at Riverside. Fullerton and Santa Ana at Fullerton. November 25.—Chaffey and Fullerton at Chaffey. Riverside and Santa Ana at Santa Ana. In addition to the foregoing, games Fullerton has had the following games scheduled: October 15.—Pomona Freshmen at Pomon; October 21 or 22. Occidental Freshmen, place not determined; October 29. U. S. C. Freshmen, place not determined; November 11—Long Beach high school at Fullerton. A glance at the games scheduled by Fullerton junior college in its first year of football, or athletics, will show that the junior college has its hands full! In spite of the heavy schedule the team is expecting to come out on top. This year's junior college team has among its players former veterans of high school teams including M. Jones, Virgil Smith, John Hawkins, Albert Hetebrink, William Glenn, Horace Blain and Earl Stogadill. Olinda News Items Young Burton, the colored flash from Los Angeles, will take on Kid Romeo. SANTA CRUZ PAPER DETAILS CONTEST Here is how a Santa Cruz paper reported the Elks championship baseball contest. From Santa Cruz News. Over 2,000 rabid fans of the old school invaded the portals of Bush League park yesterday afternoon to see the Elks baseball championship settled. Anaheim representing the south playing air tight ball all during the game, decisively defeated the aggressive San Francisco lodge team, winning by a score of 6 to 3. For a time it really seemed as though Anaheim would come through with a shutout, but San Francisco with their backs apparently against the wall started a little surprise party in the sixth, when Harry Hughes, the hero of many a league battle, fell temporarily down on control, which allowed Worth, Hallinan and Tommy Tennant, to make the circuit in safety. Outside of this one frame Hughes had the enemy eating out of his hand, none of the reputed heavy artillerymen of the bay city team being able to fathom his delivery. Hughes was backed up with almost faultless support. Returning second laterizing the only error made. Johnson twirled good enough ball for San Francisco, but the infield support accorded him was hardly up to the standard, the rough condition of the infield seemingly affecting their work. The game produced plenty of excitement and not since the good old days of state league ball has there been auch rooting, and the southern boys must be credited having a decided punch in this line of vocal effort. They were with their team to a man, and were not slow either to back their opinion with cash arguments. Annaheim showed up with one swell ball team, and the San Francisco team as good as it was, were seemingly out from Anaheim, and it is easy to see classed by the younger lot of players why they swept the rest of the teams in their section off their feet. Playing one the San Francisco team were a number of old favorites, of past league experience, and there included Tommy Tennant, Eddie Hallinan; "Splash" Kennedy, Joe Gianin and Garibaldi, the latter having played in the old state league team here years ago. By winning the game Anaheim comes into possession of the Hagen trophy won by Sacramento last season, and also a special cup donated by the Sante Cruz Elks. REO TO ANNOUNCE SEVEN-PASSenger "Reo Motor Car Co. is manufacturing a new model and one, the type and price of which will set trade tongues a-wagging again." states W. E. Alexander of the Alexander Motor Car Co., local dealers. "This latest Reo is a light seven-passenger model and the Reo folk contend this will be the standard type for touring in future." "For a long time there has been a strong demand for a car of greater capacity than the former standard five-passenger type but the demand also called for a car of smaller size than sevenths had been." "There was the problem—to obtain the seating capacity without unduly lengthening the wheel base or making the car so big and cumbersome that the fuel and upkeep costs would be prohibitive to buyers of modest emans." "Gypaying, cross-country and trans-continental touring have increased in popularity at an amazing rate during the past few years, but 95 pct of those who enjoy out doors touring prefer to drive themselves and they want a car that is readily handled on narrow trails and winding roads." Reo engineers and body designers have worked for a long time on the problem and have finally solved it. WANTED—Second-hand 8-H. P. Gas Engine. John J. Onkey, R. D. I. Box 90, Buena Park. "Reo engineers and body designers have worked for a long time on the problem and have finally developed a seven-passenger car that we think is ideal in every respect. By conserving every inch of space and converting what had been only waste space into passenger capacity, they have solved the problem and produced a car that seats seven amply and yet is but little larger than the five. JOPLIN, HORSEBACK, SLAYS LARGE DEER Declaring it to be the best three-point buck he has seen in yards, County Treasurer J. C. Joplin is detailing the success he had in bringing down a fine deer in the Trabuco section. A quick shot, made without aim from horseback, resulted in killing the buck. Joplin was riding toward the top of a ridge when he saw a deer jump out of a draw, dash a few yards uphill and disappear over the ridge. So quick was the deer, Joplin had no time to determine in his mind whether the deer was a doe or a spike-buck or a legal buck. Out of the same draw came a second deer. His spreading antlers left no doubt as to whether he was a deer that could be killed under the law. Joplin had no time to dishount, no time to take, careful aim. All he could do was jerk the rifle to his shoulder, point the gun and pull the trigger. Just as the buck got to the top of the ridge the bullet struck and broke his back. This was the second buck killed by Joplin this season, giving him the limit. Chiropractic and Electric Treatments DIAGNOSIS FREE DR. G. A. NETH Licensed Drugless Practitioner Phone 80 120 W.
