SAYS XMAS MERELY NATIONAL HOLIDAY
"Why we do not recognize Christmas as Christ's birthday," was the subject of Rev. Jesse N. Blakely pastor of the Church the Lord, 511 N.Olive-st, at the first service of the annual meetings last night.
He showed by profane history that Dec. 25 was set as the birthday of Christ by Pope Julius I., and was originally a heathen festival day to an old Roman god.The Bible says there were shepherds watching their flocks on the hills of Judene, and that the flocks are always brot in between Sept. 10 and October 15.We recognize Christmas as a national holiday, nothing more."
The meetings will continue tonight, tomorrow night and Sunday,

FRESHMEN FORESTRY
STATE COLLEGE, Pa., Sept. 20.
Her fondness for outdoor life has led Miss Caroline B. Kessinger, who has just enrolled as a freshman at the Pennsylvania college, to study forestry.
Some day she will act as a forest ranger. She is a resident of State College Borough and unable to go to another school to take up physical culture, her first desire.
The story of Aried ratiosnakes as a part of the Penn State student center at Lamar, nor yet the lonely and sometimes dangerous dangerous life of the forest ranger hold no fear for Miss Kessinger.
