APPOINTED APPRAISERS
Appointment was made by the superior court of John N. Anderson, Santa Ana, and John Sadler and W. F. Espait, of La Habra, to act as appraisers of the estate of S. D. Wester. Anderson was further designated to appraise the inheritance tax involved in the estate.

BISHOP EXHORTS GERMAN PASTORS
The German Methodist conference was opened the second day this morning by Bishop A. W. Leonard, who gave an instructive address of exhortation which was well received.
Mr. Schumutzler of Wilmington, requested that he be permitted to retire. His request was granted.
Dr. Safford, of Chicago, assistant secretary of the board of conference claims, delivered an address. He also gave a check of $300 for retired preachers.
Dr. Vermilya of the board of home missions spoke of the educational work in our country, and of the educational program of the home missions.
Dr. Fisher, dean of the McClay school of Theology at Los Angeles, also gave an address, telling of the work the school is doing and planning to do.
Dr. H. H. Meyer spoke on the Towner-Sterling educational bill which is before congress, which provides for a department of education with a secretary in the President's cabinet, a standardization of education throughout the nation, and an appropriation of $100,000 a year, for the preparation of teachers, and the Americanization of immigrants. Dr. Meyer declared that strong public schools are necessary for the success of church work, and urged that the conference adopt resolutions urging congress to pass the bill. Such resolutions have already been adopted by various conferences of Methodism. They were referred to a committee.
Dr. Hutchison of San Francisco spoke and gave $400 for retired preachers.
The anniversary of the Women's Foreign Missionary Society was held this afternoon, Mrs. F. Brinlomeyer presiding. There was a solo by Mrs. H. Lang.
Dr. Rader, missionary from the Phillipine Islands, but now in charge of the mission work of the Pacific Coast, will speak tonight at 7:30 o'clock on the missionary work.
It is stated that the conference is a very important factor in Americanization, since he work of reaching the German immigrants is carried through this way.

Exhibit at Riverside
Fair Is Being Pushed
"Orange-co, banchets and growers are entering into plans for an exhibit at Riverside county fair, with great deal of enthusiasm," declared Farm Advisor H. E. Wahiberg in commenting on the action taken by the board of supervisors at a recent meeting.
The board offered financial support to the exhibit if it were taken in charge of a county exhibit by the farm bureau. This was done and Murray Horne was appointed chairman of the committee on arrangements.
The fair will open Oct. 11. Already assurances have been made by prominent agriculturists and fruit growers of the farm bureau and the entire county that they will contribute to the exhibit.
"BABY BLIMP" HIT BY LIGHTNING. BOLT
DAYTON, O., Sept. 30. — The "Baby Blimp" at McCook field was destroyed by a terrific explosion at 6:30 this morning, caused by a bolt of lightning. The hangar at Wilbur Wright field, where the new acquisition to Uncle Sam's air forces was housed, was completely wrecked. No one was injured, due to the hour at which the lightning struck. The blimp was built at Akron by the Goodyear Co.

Harry Lundy and Charles Strong were enjoying liberty again today as the result of Justice J. B. Cox suspending a sentence of thirty days in jail, which they received for alleged vagrancy. The two were charged with begging and becoming imprinent when refused assistance.
