ON THE TRAIL OF FALEFOOTWEAR FOR DAINTY FEET
You may have always thought that shoes were made of leather, with possibly a few of cloth lining or bracelet. But this year you will have to enlarge your ideas or materials for they are going to spring one of their clever little surprises on the unsuspecting public. This season will launch an all-fur boot.
Oh, no, not woolly fur—at least, not long-haired fur. That would make a clumsy bit of footwear, wouldn't it? Even the smallest foot could not stand such an appearance. Although to be sure one envisages the Esculmaux belle clad in long-haired boots. But then consider the weather.
Dainty Fur Slippers
No. This new shoe will be made of American Broadtall, a fur resembling Permian lamb. It seems to have peculiar advantages. It will not crack or split. Rain only serves to tighten its natural curl. There will be many colors, grey, brown, tan and black. All of these may be washed with soap and water. While needs to be cleaned with gasoline. There will be combinations of colors, too, like tan and brown, black and gray. And bright colors, pinks, jades, blues, for milady's evening wear, and the twinkling toes of mademoiselle of the chorus will be produced by our ever brilliant manufacturers.
No, Betty, I do not believe oxford or street boots will be made of this new material. However, you can wear a pretty pump or a strap slipper of fur. There will be many fancy patterns from which to choose but for your latest shoes you will have to be satisfied with the good old calks and kids.
One wonder why leather comes from such youthful animals—is it not because it has more spring in it?
One is well aware of how a political party, having been out of power, promptly reverses all the work done by its predecessors, once it returns to the seat of authority. Just so the styles reverse the fads of the previous season. This spring was many-colored as to leather. So aptum will reverse this idea and return to black. Black will be good
One wonder why leather comes from such youthful animals—is it not because it has more spring in it?
One is well aware of how a political party, having been out of power, promptly reverses all the work done by its predecessors once it returns to the seat of authority. Just so the styles reverse the fads of the previous season. This spring was many-colored as to leather. So ap-tump will reverse this idea and return to black. Black will be good in clothes too, as well as in boots. Of course, the dark brown oxford will be in again, a lace oxford to be worn with spats. Strap oxords do not quite tend themselves to the trig appearance of the smartly smooth spat.
To the Boot-top?
Oh, yes, there is that important question of the skirt length. There seems to be a general feeling that skirts will be longer, about ten inches from the floor. Some say they should be at the top of the boot. But how can one determine that when many of us will be wearing oxards?
For dress wear, black satin is always good. In fact, it now seems to have become an all-year-round material. Dress slippers, daintily tipped pumps, all the various styles for afternoon and evening wear are comprised of this stuff. Buckles of rhinestones and embroidery, and beaded effects will be used.
One of the novelties in black satin was a pretty strap pump with an unusual decoration. This was a fascinating fringe of dull gold narrow chains, each ending in a ball across the instep. It was bound to the slipper with a row of amethysts.
Among the black slippers, patch leather will be worn. This is not a comfortable shoe in summer, but the cool days of fall will see many them. A high-heeled pump of this leather showed an interesting wide-pointed band of self material, stitched with a white pattern across the instep.
Two other dress slippers boasted embroidery of stitching on their toes. One pair of black suede wore blue and tan prettily patterned, while another strap slipper of brown satin wore tan and brown.
And then there is that intensely intriguing matter of buckles. Some of them might be more appropriately called buttons, if such jewelled affirms would permit it. One dayling round bit encircled a large jade stone with rhinstones. Others of brilliants made butterflies, trout lovers' knots and crescents. Not quite so brilliant but very original is a round buckle of nail heads and cut steel beads. Wide buckles come in cut steel in grey and bronze.

More Than One Pair
"There was an old woman who lived in a shoe." Mother Goose tells us. Well, she was fortunate. Nowadays what is one shoe? Each time of the day demands its appropriate boot, so that one must be possessed of many pairs to be correctly dressed. Imagine living in one shoe!
LIVES SUMPUOUSLY ON $30 A MONTH
While in Goblenz I asked one of our American boys stationed there whether he was not anxious to get back home. His shiner was "No! I don't want to leave here as long as my $30 a month produces over 2,000 marks on which I can live like a prince." But this exchange question is a double-edged sword which cuts both ways. While we are busy building the tariff wall higher and higher this premium on our dollar tends to keep our goods out of foreign markets far more effectively than any protective tariff which the other nations might enforce against us—Journal of the American Bankers Association.
