Friday, September 16, 1921 SPORTING EVENTS ADAMS MAKES IZZY GLASSER WORK OUT The sixth Bernardine Athletic clubs weekly boxing show last night was witnessed by the largest crowd of fight fans ever assembled in San Bernalino. In the main event, little Johnny Adams lost close decision to Izzy Glasser of Los Angeles at the end of four hard fought and exciting rounds, for the flyweight championship of the Pacific coast. It was, without doubt, the most sensational and bitterly fought content witnessed in the Gate City in years. Young Adams is only a youngster compared to his opponent who has been boxing on the coast for several years and is the present holder of the title but he gave Glasser a stubborn fight and carried the fight to his more experienced rival throughout the entire route. In the exchange at short range, Johnny brom the big crowd to its feet time and again by his rapid fire of two-handed mulling. He took all Glasser had to give him and came back for more. At times he gave as much if not more than he received. Little Johnny certainly won the hearts of the fans by his wonderful spectacular and game showing. A return match in the very near future has been promised Adams and it will be the only way to satisfy San Bernardino lovers of the manly art as to just who is the best man. With a little more experience, Johnny Adams will make the beat of 'em step to put anything over on him. Another rattling good scrap was the San Bernardino and Jack Miller of L.A. Both boys put up a fast, heady goof of it that pleased the crowd cone the evening. Kid Lamp of S.B., and old Father Clive Moss went thru four thrilling rounds to a draw while Clarence Browne toned on a foul to Kid Squiree in the third round by hitting his man after he had scored a knockdown and win. U.S.C. FACES BIG FOOTBALL SEASON One of the greatest football seasons in history is the pla nof the University of Southern California authorities this year. No less than sons in history is the plan of the gerous of the Pacific Coast conference colleges will be met on the gridiron. In addition the four best Southern California elevens have been awarded dates on the Trojans schedule. As if seven football games in one season weren't enough for any varsity eleven, Coach Elmer Henderson, familiarly known as "Gloomy Qus," to pigskin followers on the Pacific Coast, is endeavoring to persuade Manager Henry Bruce to line up another contest for the Cardinal and Gold players. Scheduled to open against the California Institute of Technology at Boyard Field on October 8th, Coach Henderson wants to pry off the lid of the season with a game one week earlier. This would give the Trojans eight games, and keep them busy from the first of October until December 3, when they close the season against Washington state on the turf of Tournament Park, Pasadena. The biggest games of the season, of course, will be those with the Coast conference colleges. California comes first. This game will be played at Berkeley November 5th, and will be the only conflict away from home. The Bears and the Trojans failed to get together last year, following the close 14-13 struggle in California's favor the previous year, though U.S.C. challenged California to a post-season game before the New October 15—Oceola son field. Everyone who participated the other evening had a lot of fun out of it. Now that they have their "uniforms" purchased, there's no use putting them away in moth balls. THIS SMALL ADVERTISEMENT is worth a big lot of money to you It means that you can get a dandy In eight years accurately compiled statistics have proven that the average price paid to Valencia orange growers of this county has been $2.78½ per box. In accepting these figures as a working basis I am in a position to show you 20.4 acre orange grove, situated in the city limits, that will pay a net income of 22 per cent on price asked. This grove containing 1744 trees is acknowledged to be the best in Orange county, embracing the finest soil, extra large trees suggesting a most healthful state, and a most prolific setting for next year. On but 10 acres of this grove there is at the present time an estimated crop conservatively placed at over 6000 packed boxes. No one will refute my statement when I say that on no other grove will you see manifested the intelligent care and attention as has been accorded this particular acreage. In conjunction with its wonderful value as an orange grove consider carefully its equally valuable location, right here in Anaheim. A few minutes from the center, frontage on three streets and only a short distance from the new park. Another feature, one of the streets on which this grove faces will, when paved, be the direct road to Los Angeles. Think what this will mean. This is absolutely the best proposition ever offered in Anaheim, and at the price asked it has an immediate resale value or by holding as an investment will prove to be most lucrative. It will pay you to consider this grove before purchasing elsewhere. You can't afford to permit this opportunity to escape.
