HUGHES' ARM O. K.
STATES BONESETTER
Realizing as never before the importance of an effective pitching staff for the crucial game with Pasadena Sunday, every effort is being made this week to get the flinging arm of the old reliable, Harry Hughes, into shape.
Hughes yesterday went to Los Angeles for an interview with Bonesetter Spencer, who declared there was nothing vitally out of whack and asserting the whip should be in shape for the championship clash next Sunday.
Hughes worked out today with Captain Buster Callan, but the program will be to give the chuckling arm as much rest this week as possible before the strain that will be put upon it Sunday.
Considerable discussion has prevailed among the bugs as to whether Hughes shouldn't have been left in the game Sunday, at least longer than was done. Manager Pete Hax set at rest all conjecture as to how Hughes himself felt about his transfer. Hax said:
"Bus asked Harry how his arm felt and Harry said it was rotten, so Salveson was brot in."
Hux went to Los Angeles yesterday in an effort to obtain the Vernon playing field for Sunday's past time. He says Jackson, secretary of the Vernon club and was referred to Eddie Maier who was out of town. Word was expected from Maier today. This was expected to be favorable. In fact, Hux half expected Maier would contribute the park for nothing, since he is an Elk. Otherwise, the rental would probably be on a commission basis.

Building Activities in St. Paul
ST. PAUL, Sept. 13—More residences are being erected in this city at this time than at any period since the war ended. This is due to a growing belief that building costs will not be any lower next spring than they are now and the shortage of houses makes residential building almost a necessity.
POET'S TRIBULATIONS
The editor returned my verse
With comment sharp and caustic,
"Just an escape of gas," he wrote—
The unfeeling agnostic.
How crude the editor's abuse—
The low, ungrateful cheater.
If he doesn't find such gas of use,
"I'll simply change the meter."
Justin Nutt, in Orchard and Farm.

TRACTORS AND MALL PLOWING
"A horse-killing job" is the term used by many farmers to describe fall plowing—especially after a hot, dry summer. It is in such work, as well as summer following under a torrid sun, that the tractor comes into its own. Hundreds of farmers have testified, in fact, that they could not do fall plowing properly if at all with horses. With their tractors, however, they are able to attack perfectly dry land and tear it loose—often in great chunks, which disintegrated by winter rains and cultivation, produce at length a fine, deep seeded. Early, deep fall plowing long has been advocated by tillage experts. And the tractor, on hundreds of ranches, has made it feasible—Albert J. Mason, in Orchard and Farm.

Orange County Groves---
Buy Wisely and Buy---
NOW!
ROTHSCHILD'S admonishment not to try to "buy at the bottom nor to sell at the top" is most excellently applied to the present condition of the Valencia orange grove market. Prices are not the lowest, yet they are far from the "top." A good Orange county grove bought now — or ten years from now — will be an ideal investment; but why not buy now and reap, in future years, the harvest of good judgment?

Good Orange county grove bought now — or ten years from now — will be an ideal investment; but why not buy now and reap, in future years, the harvest of good judgment?
No better time to spend a few profitable hours with the C. B. Berger Company, for they have listed some of the very best "buys" in this entire section. These listings vary in size from two acres up to eighty acres and every one of them is listed at a price that will insure a perfectly safe, legitimate profit.
Twenty-six of the last thirty-one groves sold through this office were purchased by local citrus men—one of the best advertisements we could possibly have, and as we have satisfactorily placed these men, we can do the same for you.
C. B. BERGER COMPANY
"Headquarters for Good, Dependable Income Groves"
$ Your Opportunity $
In eight years accurately compiled statistics have proven that the average price paid to Valencia orange growers of this county has been $2.78½ per box. In accepting these figures and working with us I am in a position to show you a 20.4 acre or more land located in the city limits, that will pay a not income of about $10 per price asked. This grove containing 1744 trees is the best in Orange county, embracing the finest landscapes and trees suggesting a most healthful state, and a most desirable location for next year. On but 10 acres of this grove there is estimated crop conservatively placed in packed boxes. No one will refute my statement when it comes to no other grove will you see manifested the intelligent consideration as has been accorded this particular acreage. In addition with its wonderful value as an orange grove consider its equally valuable location, right here in Anaheim a few miles from the center, frontage on three streets and only a short distance from the new park. Another feature, one of the streets on this grove faces will, when paved, be the direct road to Lolling geles. Think what this will mean. This is absolutely the proposition ever offered in Anaheim, and at the price asked it an immediate resale value or by holding as an investment to prove to be most lucrative. It will pay you to consider this grove before purchasing elsewhere. You can't afford to permit this opportunity to escape.
