SPARKES OFFERS BIG CARD FRIDAY NIGHT
Prohoker at Sparks of the Anaheim Athletic club, with the assistance of Billy Darnley, formerly of San Bernardino, but who is now going to make Anaheim his future home and who has been engaged by the local promoter to handle the match-making, training and instruction end of the club, expects to give the local fans a rare treat tomorrow night when the club stages it regular weekly boxing show.
Young Dudley, the local colored flash, has been signed up to meet Johnny Weber of the submarine base in the feature event of the evening. This bout looks to be the class of the season — something the fans have been waiting for for a long time. Dudley will have a real fight on this hands and will have to step fast to get an even break with the sailor lad who is one of the claverest two-handed fighters in this locality. Weber also can punch. It gives joy premise of being a real main event as also does the semi windup between Eddie Elliott of Brea, and Jack Iman of local fame.
Iman has not appeared in a ring since his last appearance at Huntington Beach where he defeated Jack Moore. Elliott in his last appearance here was given the decision owar Billy Conley on a foul after a tough three rounds. Some fast snappy work should be on tap when Bennie Helfer, the slugging demon from Peris, and Battling Herren of Santa Ana, mix.
When Johnny Adams of San Bernardino, the conqueror of Kid Loule, and Kid Williams tangle, another real battle is promised as well as the curtain raiser between Kid Loule and Bobby Barton, a hard hitting flyweight from San Berdoo.
LEAST, no one was anxious to find the chalk this morning and get the report up on the blackboard at Dugas and Myre's.
THEY ARE OFF!
Meet the Baseball team at the Elks' new building, Los Angeles and Sycamore-sts, Sunday, Sept. 4 at 10:30 a.m., and go with them to Pasadena.
They need the support of every member of the lodge in the next few games, if they are to go to Santa Cruz and bring back that fine, big cup for the new club house.
The game will be played at Brookside Park Pasadena; the next game will be played at Fullerton on Sept. 11.
Don't forget the dates, and make sure you are on hand to help the boys win.

Spares and Stripes
The So. Cal. Bowling Assn. will conduct a tourney on the local alleys the week of Sept. 19. Thirty-five-men teams are expected to participate. Tony Five-men teams will shoot each night, followed by doubles and singles. Each team will include one class A, two B and two C bowlers. The tourney will last a week or ten days.
They're still talking about the clash the other night between Dad Meek and his young hopeful, Rufus Miek, who somehow or other got it into his head that he could beat the old man in tryouts for the elimination tourney. Of course the crowd was with the youngster who rolled a 174 in the first game against Dad's 204. In the second, however, the old man announced he would show Rufus just how far he had to go to challenge the pater. The score was 300. Then the crowd lost interest in Rufus.
The elimination tourney is to be rolled at the Bathhouse alleys, Long Beach, the first round starting next Tuesday. The Mighty Johnson is scheduled for the first night, while Hefforn, Anaheim's other representative, who meets Jujon of San Pedro, doesn't shoot until the following Sunday night. There are 38 entries.
Anaheim didn't do much in the mixed doubles tourney last night. At

WATCH FOR RACES
Yachting sportsmen from the entire California coastline as far north as San Francisco will have their vision centered on Newport harbor over the week end of Sept. 3, 4 and 5, and the Orange-co port will see a gathering of pleasure craft second only to the big coast regatta held at Santa Barbara, according to announcement of officers of the Newport Harbor Yacht club.
The festivities are to start Saturday, Sept. 3, with a race of South Coast and L. A. Motorboat club members to Balboa from San Pedro, with a genuine yacht club dance at night, limited to members and visiting yachtsmen. This party will be held at the Newport Harbor Yacht club house, which will be the center of activities during the three days. On Monday, Labor day, will be seen some fast speedboat and sailing races on the outside course, and Monday evening there will be an informal dance for members and their guests, limited to six.
"We are going to show our visitors a royal good time and need every member—particularly the boat owners, to lend every assistance in being the genial hosts that the club is noted for," reads the Newport club's announcement. "Those members who have small runabout bay boats or small cruisers can help materially in acting as pilot boats for the visiting ships. Let's put the party on right and show our visitors we know how it should be done."
WHAT'S THIS? RENTS REDUCED!

I have just received the exclusive listing of what I honestly believe to be the greatest opportunity ever offered in Anahim. An orange grove consisting of 20.4 acres, situated in the city limits, a stone's throw from the New Park, frontage on three streets, soil conditions which are absolutely the best to be found in this locality. When I state that there is an estimated crop of over 6000 packed boxes on but 10 acres of this grove, you can use your own judgment as to its merits. If you are interested in a grove which has received the most diligent care and attention, and is unquestionably one of the best in Orange county, I suggest that you call and see me.
