NEW BUICK FOUR HERE; LATEST AUTO SENSATION William Goodrum Receives One of the Newest Additions to Buick Family for Demonstrator; Promise Deliveries Next Month. NEW BUICK The suspense of waiting for the new Buick four by hundreds of Anaheim people who have become interested and the newest addition to the Buick family was ended today when one was brut here by William Goodrum, local distributor. The new arrival will be used only as a demonstrator, deliveries being promised for September. There has not been a car for years that has ever had so much comment in motor car circles as the Buick, and indications are that it will soon hold one of the cheap positions among light cars. Equipped with the famous Buick overhead valve motor, the little car has the same power and durability of the big brother. All of the features that have been incorporated in the sixes this year are to be found on the new four, the lines of the body being identical. More than a dozen persons have been treated to a ride in the car since its arrival and each declared that it was the easiest riding light car they have ridden in. There is no doubt, according to automobile men, that the new Buick is one of the sensations of the year, and the advance praise that was sent out in regard to it seems to be justified. It will be a busy week, according to Mr. Goodrum, if he demonstrates the new four to all of those who have asked to have a ride in it. Moving of the Buick agency into their temporary quarters opposite their present location will be completed by Sunday and work of constructing their new building on the site will begin in the near future, according to an announcement made yesterday by Mr. Goodrum. The growth of the organization since it was formed slightly more than two years ago has been phenomenal and the present building would not meet their requirements. Altho their temporary location is the largest salesroom in the county, it is hardly adequate to meet their demands and work on the new building is expected to be rushed. When completed the new quarters will be the finest and best equipped salesroom and service station in the county. Mr. Goodrum declared. Nesa No. 1 the next producer now stands cemented at 2757, just 33 feet deeper than the landing of the 10 inch in the discovery well. The Shell's next furthest advanced well is Horsch No. 1 now drilling at 2300. Babb-Tucker No. 1 is at 2000 feet in sandy shale. Stakemiller No. 1 is drilling at 2675 in the hard sand. Alamitos No. 3 spudded in and is close to 1000 feet. Pickler No. 1 also shows 1000 feet of hole. New rigs are up for Jones Nos. 1 and 2, and for Wilbur No. 1. Patton-Wilson No. 1 is building. Alamitos No. 1 the discovery well is being cleaned out and swabbed to increase the flow. Judging from the showing the well has been making it should settle down to an 800 or 1000 bbl. well. With the placing of Sandburg No. 1 on production the Sandburg Petroleum Co. will be the second and next company to get production on Signal Hill, So Cal.'s newest oil field. Sandburg No. 1 drilled to 2748 feet, set 10 inch at 2690. On drilling out the cement, the sand heaved and filled the well up about 325 feet. Before a water test or production test can be made this sand will have to be removed. Rigging up for cable tools was quickly done, and now the well is being cleaned out. Sandburg No. 1 presented a lively scene prior to sanding up, and the management has every reason to believe a big well is in sight. Sandburg No. 2 is drilling in the sandy shale at 1675 feet. Sandburg-Fisher No. 1 is to spud in Thursday, Sandburg-Hardboiled No. 1 is marked with a rig. The San Martenas Oil Co. drilled out the cement at No. 1 today. Conditions look like a shut off on the water. San Martenas No. 2 spudded in and made 200 feet of hole. The Signal Hill Syndicate No. 1 is nearing 2500 feet and is drilling in sandy shale. Some good drilling has been done on this well. The Standard drilled out the cement at Bixby No. 1 secured a water shut off and is going ahead at close to 4400 feet. No oil showings of any consequence have been reported. Drilling is going excellent for a deep hole. "Blondy" Elder is making a splendid drilling record for the Crest Oil Co.at No. 1. The well is now at 2300 feet, the drilling has been under way for 20 days and is going very nicely. As announced last week the Crest Oil Co. has taken over the Long Beach Consolidated holdings and drills the well on a 50-50 basis. The rig is up for this well. Huntington Owners flushed with success at Huntington Beach are rigged. "Billy" Wigle is putting the National Crude down in record time. The well spudded in and started drilling one week ago, and the log now shows 1100 feet and sandy shale. The Orange County Petroleum Co. and the Kentucky-Pacific Oil companies have rigs up and are starting the rigging up work. Rausay Bros., Oklahoma oil operators, have a rig up on the Long Beach City reservoir property and will begin drilling with the completion of the rigging up work. The Walker-Western Oil Co.is hurrying with the rigging up at No. 1 Signal Hill and will be ready to start in drilling in a very short time. Located on the east slope of the Hill the Walker Western's holdings are exceptionally well located. ADVERTISE THEFT; BOOTY RETURNED R.E.Coffman, fumigator, who was on the war path yesterday because a thief had stolen a 43-foot tent from, one of his crews on the Samuel Kraemer grove at Placentia, is laughing up his sleeve today, and the whole Anaheim police force is laughing with him. The thief, frightened at the activities of the officers, the reward offered by Mr. Coffman and the reports in the newspapers of the theft, brot back the booty last night while the crew was at work, leaving it in its former place, but without even leaving name and address, or making any claim for the reward offered. "It pays to advertise," is the inevitable conclusion. The Plain Dealer for Good Printing. As announced last week the Crest Oil Co. has taken over the Long Beach Consolidated holdings and drills the well on a 50-50 basis. The rig is up for this well. Huntington Owners flushed with success at Huntington Beach are rigging up at Signal Hill with enthusiasm. Huntington Owners No. 1 is regarded now as one of the Hill's choicest locations. Rigging up is advancing rapidly and drilling will probably start inside of ten days. Jack McKeon is again duplicating his former drilling successes on the Oceanic at Signal Hill. Two weeks and 2000 feet is what has been done. The Oceanic Oil Co.'s holdings are admirably located, and it will only be a matter of a short time when this company will be in the producing class. The Petroleum Midway, one of California's largest operating companies, is in the Long Beach field securing properties. Holdings joining the Oceanic on the south-west side of the Oceanic have just been closed by the Petroleum Midway. The big company will secure a number of properties before commencing actual development work. The Augur-Trebell Oil Co. will leave the Huntington Beach field for the time being and concentrate its development work on Signal Hill. A rig is up and actual drilling is to start as soon as the rigging up work is completed. Additional Field Information California Petroleum Syndicate No. 1 building rig. Coast States Oil Co. NASH SPORT MODEL MAKES 62 MILES ON BROOKHURST-RD No Trouble In Keeping to the Rough Road at This Terrific Speed Sixty-two miles an hour is not such a terrific speed for the average first class car, but when it comes to driving an automobile that fast over a rocky and bumpy road there is a different viewpoint. The above performance was made a few days ago by a sport model Nash on the roughest mile stretch of the Brookhurst road by a local man who has had his car for nearly two years. The average car that can travel this particular stretch of road at that rate of speed, is unable to hold the road, it is said, but no trouble at all was experienced with the sport HUBBELL SHOWS PAIGE BROUGHAM, DECREED MARVEL Latest Coupe Has Duplicate of Motor Used In Record Breaking Car at Daytona Closed car admirers have a real treat in store for them at the exhibit Friday, when the new Paige Broughon, coupe SEG will be shown for the first time in Orange-co, Sam Hubbell, local distributor, announced yesterday. The coupe is a five passenger car and is the latest product in closed car models turned out by the Paige factory. In commenting on the new model Mr. Hubbell said: "Too much cannot be said for the new Broughon, and practically every other dealer that I know who has seen the car declares that it is without a parallel among cars selling for the same price and from $1,500 to $2,500 more." Most coupes, as we all know, are too heavy for the motor that drives them, and consequently they are powerless and cumbersome. However, the motor in this new new coupe is the exact duplicate of the Paige motor which recently set new world records for stock cars on the Brook at Daytona, Florida, and is positively the last word in motor construction. The new model will be displayed at the exhibit and I am sure that many new friends will be made closed cars. The beauty of design, of course, is one of the outstanding features, but it is the motive power and general construction of the coupe that makes it marvel among closed cars. There is now a screw or bolt in the car that will not compare with all the higher priced cars on the market." FAMOUS ATHLETE VISITS IN ORANGE Fred W. The perfect balance plus power is one of the strong factors in its sales in rough country, where these features are necessary, and where the purchasers want comfort and beauty as well. Three Nash owners yesterday declared that no car on the market within one or two thousand dollars of the price of their car would equal the Nash in performance or comfort. NEW CARUSO RECORD WITH TENOR AT BEST With the news of Caruso's death still fresh in the mind of the public, there comes the announcement of a new Caruso record in the Victor output for August. This is a Neapolitan song—"I'm Carricordo e Napule," said to show his voice at its best. Other notable features of the list include the famous "Minute Waltz" of Chopin, as played by Rachmaninoff, and the third movement of Rimsky-Korsakov's "Scherezade" interpreted by Stokowski's Philadelphia orchestra. A Wisconsin man is the inventor of a screw driver with a blade that expands and fits tightly in the slot of a screw. FAMOUS ATHLETE VISITS IN ORANGE Fred W. Kelly, famous athlete and aviator, is back in the place where he secured his first recognition. The former world record holder in the high hurdles is visiting with his sister, Mrs. Elmer Ensign, at Orange. Kelly recently returned to the United States from Cuba where he has been engaged in commercial aviation since his discharge from that branch of the service in the army. When President Wilson was leaving for the peace conference, Kelly looped, zig-zagged and skidded over the George Washington, the executive's ship. He was confined to the post for two weeks as a result of taking liberties with the chief executive. While attending Orange high school Kelly became famous as a track athlete and while a student at Univ. of So. Calif. he shattered the world mark in the 120 yard high hurdles. He was a member of the American team at the 1912 Olympic games at Stockholm, Sweden, where he won the hurdles.
