The map which Dunn is preparing will be of inestimable value to the many tourists who will travel on the new highway to Oscali, the all-year play spot of the nation, and to other points in the West. DEER HUNTERS CAUSE FIRES SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 15—With the opening of the deer season in the coastal counties comes the usual increase in forest and brush fires, according to Paul G. Pedington, district forester of the forest service, with headquarters in the Ferry building. The airplane patrol over the California forest Aug. 4 reported 9 fires of various sizes on and near the forest and all are due to the great influx of deer hunters the last few days. The Santa Barbara reports the woods full of hunters and two big fires burning, one along the Cuyama Valley and one on Big Pine mountain. During the last session of the state legislature the forest service with other agencies, was instrumental in having the opening of the deer season delayed in the Sierra and No. Calif., but there was opposition to such legislation affecting the coastal counties. Since it is a known fact that the early opening of the deer season is responsible for the large increase in fires in the coast ranges during August, the forest service intends to continue the campaign for remedial legislation since this seems the only way to reduce the number of man-caused fires during the peak of the fire season. The granting of the road district was made in a petition by nearly a hundred property owners of La Habra. It is to make possible the building of storm drains, paving and improving of roads. Goulsa from their old home, Norbourie, Missouri, are being entertained by Mr. and Mrs. F. W. Taylor for a few days. The guests are Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Parish and when they leave La Habra they are planning to visit Mr. Taylor's brother and family, of Santa Ana. A program of exceptional merit will be given Sunday evening at the Methodist church C. Liddecote, of the Midnight Mission, of Los Angeles, will have charge of the services. J. C. Hall, of the Temple Baptist Men's Bible class, will assist. The musical committee have secured a fine program for this meeting. Stories are not safe of the deep-sea fishing of a party of La Habralans, but it is supposed they caught aplenty. Those to enjoy this outing were: The Messrs. Fox, Terry, McKinley, Helden, Hilbert, Coy and Tlesan. A number of people are spending their vacation at the mountains and beaches. Among these going to the beach are Mrs. F. C. Chapman, who will be the guest of Mrs. Pearl Beer at Huntington Beach, and Mrs. A. H. Johason, and Miss Neva Fessenden, who go to Glen ranch. Western Union No. 2 is located about 500 yards from the Huntington Beach sugar factory and about 250 feet north of No. 1. No. 2 was today flowing "bareheaded." that is, without any screen casing on the lower end of the string of 8½ inch casing. No. 1 is flowing up thru a 10-inch casing. The big gusher came in to the active list while a test was being made for water. Only the top of the oil sands were scratched. The coming of the Western Union No. 2 means another impetus to the Huntington Beach field and it brings the total daily production to 10,370 barrels and the daily average per well to 432 barrels. There are now 166 rigs in the field, 57 of which are under construction, $1 drilling and $2 producing. FIRST ROW CASE TO BE TRIED ON DEC. 5 The damage suit brot by Robert C. Avery against T. B.
