Placentia School Makes Improvements
PLACENTIA, July 29, 1921—Directors of the grammar school let the contracts to Clayton H. Landreth, a local man, this week for a lot of cement sidewalks at the school grounds here. The contract for another bus body to be used on the school bus was also awarded at the same time to J. R. Gardner of Fullerton, who made the body of the other bus.
The plans for the new building at Richfield are not completed yet but will be very shortly.
Mrs. George Inglebert returned Tuesday from Tuxell, where she had been visiting for the past week with relatives and friends.
Master Norman Finley, son of Mrs. M. K. S. Pinley, of San Bernardino in spending a few days with his nunt Mrs. Olive Balloy.
John Alcottie of Bakerfield was a week-and-a visit at the home or his sister Mrs. H. P. Bander here. Mr. Alcottier is leaving to take his work at the University of California at Berkeley.
Birth announcements were received here this week of the arrival at the Anaheim hospital July 22d of Jack Gillaple. Mrs. Gillaple, the happy mother was formerly Miss Grace Foster of this city, but now living in Anaheim.
Mr. J. L. Grrr who just recently returned from Modesto, where she helped for several weeks to take care of her nieces who had a spell with the scarlet fever has now been called to Albiquerque, N. M., to help care for a sister-in-law who is very sick.
Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Skiles and their colleagues Dorothy and Corrina have returned from a three-week trip to Lake Tahoe and other wonder spots in that vicinity. They report a most through the high Sierras among the magnificent woods and lakes and along the beautiful streams of that wonderful country. They went up the valley route and returned along the coast and saw nothing in the line of farms and orchards to compare with those of Orange County.

WEST ORANGETHORPE, July 28 (Sek.)—Mr. Ben Caloway is subdividing his 20 more ranch into one acre tract. The acreage is located at the corner of Western and Orangethorpe-avan.

Miss Ruth Darkke left last Friday to visit her sister Mrs. G. T. Watson at Newport Beach; Miss Durkew will return to her home on Brookhurst-rd Tuesday evening.
Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Davis and family made a business trip to Whittier Monday.
Mr. and Mrs. M. Del Glargio andops Joe and Frank, spent Sunday at Seal Beach and Long Beach. They reported an unusually large crowd of surf bathers at both beaches.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Heinemut and family visited relatives in Santa Ana Sunday.
Mr. Albert Corillas, or Pasadena came home for the week-end. Mrs. Corliz accompanied him and will remain for a week. Mr. Corlis has a light housekeeping apartment where he stays while doing carpenter work in that city.
Mrs. H. R. Hardy, Miss Clark Davis and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Davis of Los Angeles spent Sunday with the H. R. Davis family of Date-save. Robert Davis returned with them expecting to remain a few days.

J. Heanick of Santa Ann, who recently purchased a lot on W. Santa Fe-ave has let the contract for the building of a frame store building. The building will be occupied by a complete tailoring establishment and haberdashery, which will be run by Mr. Reanick brother-in-law.
Mr. and Mrs. William Moore of San Francisco were week-end visitors of Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Moore of Napa Placein, who are also here from Frisco visiting the latter's mother, Mrs. Mattle Foster, Mrs. Wm. Moore and baby have been spending a few weeks with her parents, Senator and Mrs. Johnson, at their summer home in Monterio, while Mr. Moore is an instructor in the aviation corps of the U.S. navy, came up from North Island by sea plane.
G. R. Farrar, postmaster, and his good wife, returned from a five weeks trip to their old home in Illinois Tuesday afternoon. They had a daytime visitation old time friends and relatives but are mighty glad to get back to Placentia where the summer heat is somewhat more pleasant than the heat of the middle west.
The Social Circle of Placentia met at the home of Mrs. Bender on N. Bradford-ave, last Friday afternoon and a most delightful social time was had. Some rolllicking games were played and Mrs. McKee won the first prize and Mrs. O. C. Christenson won the consolation prize. Delicious and dainty refreshments were served by the hostess. The Circle will have no more meetings during the hot summer months but will hold their next session on the first Friday in September.
That the English people know a good orange when they taste it is made sure when the Placentia Mutual Orange Growers Asn this week filled an order for another carload of Valencia from here to London, going via the Panama canal to the foreign port. The first shipment to England brought the highest price of any of the Orange-co. fruit on the boat. Not only on this shipment have the local Valencias brought good prices, but the Shamrock brand of the Mutual packing house brought the highest prices on every canal shipment so far this season.
The annual picnic of the growers, members, directors and employees of the Placentia Mutual Orange Growers Asn, of Placentia will be held Saturday, Aug. 6th. The packing house will be closed all day and every grower and employee will make a special effort to be present. It is expected that there will be an attendance of over 300, and Manager Harry Easton says that there is going to be some days while doing carpenter work in that city.

YORBA LINDA, July 29, (SpL)—Mr. and Mrs. Ed.Kaub and daughter, Edith are enjoying a two weeks' holiday at Long Beach.
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Anderson took a load of building material up to Barron flats the latter part of the week for C.R.Selover, who will build a cabin there.
A jolly party of young people matored to Balboa for a dip in the ocean Tuesday evening, after which they enjoyed a dinner and dancing.
The party included Mr. and Mrs.Ed Taylor, Mr. and Mrs.L.M.Buckmaster, Mr. and Mrs.Ralph Shook, Miss Edith Bemis, Miss Juanna Coombs, of Picencia; Arthur Bemia, Chauncey Elchler, Mr. and Mrs.Gaylord Page and Mr. and Mrs.Ben Selover.
Mr.Wm.Trammell, who has been employed in the local oil fields, for several months left the last of the week for his home in Kentucky.
Mr.Julia Selover is spending the week at the J.A.Buckmaster home.
Mr.mr.Hurold Marsh entertained the former's sister, Mrs.E.Stofft and husband, of San Francisco, the past week.
