Mr. and Mrs. Homer Bemis are the proud parents of a fine girl born Friday at the Fullerton hospital. Mrs. Geo. Calkins, who has been seriously ill, is much improved and is able to sit up a great part of the time. Buena Park News BUENA PARK, July 25.—Miss Dorothy Mulrhead entertained with a than last year, and there apparently seems to be no shortage. Enter the motoring mermaid! For the fair devotees of natation have hit upon a new wrinkle. Nowadays they don the winsome one-piece at their family homes, get out the family runabout, and off they go to the beaches. To steer a machine while one is arrayed only in spiffy and unconfining aquatic raiment hidden perhaps under a discreet bathrobe— To plunge into the breakers— To come out all aglow, to drive home again, shiver for a moment under the shower, and to dress— What could be smoother? It's quite the latest. They're all doing it. The sheltered and dainty sub-deb of the aristocratic residential sections of Los Angeles is the limousine nymph par excellence, according to those Anaheimers who have caught sight of her. Not that the fair nabobs of the Angel City have a "corner" on the stunt. Far from it. For the athletic Santa Ana girls are right in the swim, so to speak. They find a way, somehow, to get an afternoon, or a part of an afternoon, off now and then—perhaps when they are thrust—and the impromptu dashes to seaward follow in short order. All of which explains why persons on the boulevards leading to the beaches are often startled by wailing and fleeting glimpses, revealed when an auto skims by, of possibly a pearly arm or shoulder peeping coily from beneath a not too concealing bathrobe. McComber has started tearing down his house and will erect a beautiful and spacious home. The Village Gossip Strawberries, loganberries and blackberries are selling at 15 cents a box. At this time last year the same commodities were selling at a lower figure. In view of the fact that for the most part prices on fruits and vegetables are lower this year than last, considerable interest has been shown in this fact here. "There are very few berries grown in this locality," explained a grocer today. "Practically all of those consumed here are shipped in each day from Los Angeles." If people would use more apricots and peaches on the table instead of the berries the situation might be altered. "The japs in Los Angeles have a corner on the berry market and may set the price practically to suit themselves." Very few berries have been purchased for canning this year in comparison with other years and he attributes it to the higher prices. "You can't blame the Japs very much. They are only allowed to rent land in the state for a period of 3 months." COAST LEAGUE W. L.
