OUTPUT OF METALS
$8657 LAST YEAR
While Orange-co has never pointed "with pride" to its standing as a mining county, it is listed by the U.S. geological survey in a report by Charles G. Yale as having produced in 1920 metals worth $8,657.
During that year, according to the report, there were two producers in Two or three coal mining projects the county, producing forty-six tons have been opened up of ore, with values as follows: Gold, $145; silver, $7,263; lead, 15,610 pounds, worth 8 cents a pound.
"The Blued Light Mines Co. has by a Mexican name that meant Timabout 30 men at work in its mine in her canyon. Along in the 70's the Silverado canyon," said Chief Deputy first mining operations began there, County Assessor Maurice Enderle to-be dropped later and revived to be day, "and I suppose that it was the dropped later and revived again and production of this mine last year that gives the U.S. geological survey its figures for 1920 production for silver and lead. The report for gold probably came from individuals. There are a few Mexicans doing place or mining in Lucas canyon, and I suppose they have found a few nuggets."
In the last 50 years there have been many mining adventures launched in this county, but none has brought known as the Silverado, was known to the Mexicans and early settlers.

again. It was about that time that the canyon got its present name.
Many years ago, too, the Pellegrin mines in the upper Santa Lago were opened. To many, the name is known Morrow mine. It is not now operating.
For many years, Jacob Yacger has been mining in the Trabuco canyon. He is still on the job.
Perhaps the most extensive mining project and one that has continued for many years under various managements was that originally started by the Santa Ana Tin Mining Co. in Trabuco canyon.
The claims were never developed as a tin mining proposition. About 15 years ago Gail Borden, the canned milk king, and his associates undertook the development of the mine for gold, silver and other metals. The company has never been able to prove up on its claim as mining property. For several years the U.S. forest service has stood ready to resist any effort of this concern to get any patents on the ground of having developed a real mine.
Lucas canyon, a branch of the San Juan hot springs canyon, has long held a position in the romance of placer mining in this country. Free gold nuggets have been found there for many years, and while the size and number of nuggets has encouraged a good deal of prospecting in the canyon, no mother lode has ever been found. About 14 years ago a company was organized in Santa Ana to carry on operations in search of the mother lode that many believed must be found somewhere in the canyon.
