NEWS OF FULLERTON FULLERTON SHIPS 45 CARS THIS WEEK Forty-four cars of oranges and one car of lemons were shipped out of Fullerton this week, according to reports of the various packing houses obtained today. The Placentia Orange Growers Assn. led the list, according to the P. E. records, with 21 cars of oranges. This association ships no lemons. The Benchley Fruit Co. came second with 17 cars of oranges. They are also in the lemon packing business but shipped none this week. The American Fruit Growers, Inc., "eased up" this week on their shipments, but will begin packing again Monday, it was reported at the office of A. H. T. Osborne. Six cars or oranges were shipped by them this week, and one car of lemons. Last week Fullerton shipped 57 cars of oranges and four of lemons, these figures including the Placentia house of the Placentia Mutual. FULLERTON EDISON BLDG. COST $45,000 Men in the employ of the So. Cal. Edison Co. started yesterday to lay out the site for the new building they are to erect on East Walnut ave to serve as warehouse, garage and office. It is to be a large structure, furnishing more than 7200 square feet of floor space, the plans showing a number of rooms to be used for various purposes and a quite imposing front along the avenue. The dimensions on the ground are 80x91. It is to be one story high and solidly built of brick and concrete. They have let no contract, preferring to put the job in charge of their own superintendent of construction who will requisition such materials and hire such men as are needful to put the deal thru. An estimated cost of the building puts the figures around $45,000. WHITE SHRINE ENTERTAINS The White Shrine entertained yesterday afternoon wit ha lawn party PASADENA CAR HITS DEPUTY MARSHAL Mrs. Mollo J. Houston of Pasadena "bumped" her car into the car of Joe Marillo, deputy marshal of Fullerton, this morning as Mr. Marillo turned the corner of Spadra-rd and Wilshire-ave after he had gotten his car across the "safety" line, it was stated. Mrs. Houston was very much frightened. She admitted it was her fault, saying that she was looking away, and did not see Mr. Marillo. Both cars were damaged. No one was injured. BIRTHDAY SURPIRE Mr. George Key of Acacia-ave was surprised by a few relatives last evening. He thought it coincidence when the first cars arrived but when more came he remembered it was his birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Karl Kohl and Mrs. Slingsby who returned from Yellowstone National Park yesterday, gave some interesting accounts and pictures of their trip. Refreshments of ripe peaches, ice cream and cake were served by the hostess, Miss Grace Key. The guests were Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Daniel, Mrs. Sarah Pinkham, Mrs. Elizabeth Key, Mr. and Mrs. Karl Kohl, Mrs. Mary Slingsby, Mrs. Roy Barnes, Mrs. Barbara Carrow, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Hoover, Mr. and Mrs. James W. Cohoe and daughter, Enid, and Mr. and Mrs. James Huntley. FULLERTON BRIEFES Mr. J. Charles Scymore and family will spend the week-end in Los Angeles this week. Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Gregory and family have returned from a week's vacation at Catalina which they enjoyed very much. Mr. R. S. Durbin spent last evening in Long Beach on an important business engagement. Mrs. W. H. Robertson at 434 W. Amerige-st. Five hundred was the game which provided the afternoon amusement, and prizes were won as follows: Mrs. Hutchinson, first, Mrs. W. McHenry, second. Later in the afternoon a delicious cool buffet luncheon was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Robertson, C. L. Garrison, Buchanan and Clark. Twenty members of the White Shrine were present and all spent a most enjoyable afternoon. VISITOR HAS RARE VIOLIN Robert Sanders, violinist, and his wife, are visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Evans, their life-long friends. The former has just returned from a concert tour of the east. He has with him here a rare old violin that was made in the year of 1516 by a famous old exponent of the art of violin making. All of the old masters have used the instrument and each has written' of its most wonderful tone. Mr. Sanders has had the violin appraised by dealers in rare instruments and they have set the value at $100,000. Messrs Sanders and Evans are spending the summer in preparation for the coming concert season. The latter expects to accompany Mr. Sanders on the piano in many of his western engagements, in which his most recent songs will be featured. BUILD GRAVEL STORAGE HOPPER The storage plant which the La Habra Sand and Gravel Co. are installing along the Santa Fe tracks down by the Standard Oil tanks, is nearly completed and will be put in use ere long. It is a big oblong tank, or hopper, as it is known to the trade, built of heavy timbers on a solid foundation, high enough above the ground to allow a wagon to drive under it and having a capacity of many car-loads. Mr. J. Charles Seymore and family will spend the week-end in Los Angeles this week. Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Gregory and family have returned from a week's vacation at Catalina which they enjoyed very much. Mr. R. S. Durblin spent last evening in Long Beach on an important business engagement. Mrs. W. H. Wickett spent yesterday in Long Beach. H. Turner, R. McNeill, and J. A. Piper were sentenced to 30 days in the county jail by Judge French yesterday on a charge of trespassing. Mr. Charles R. Sutherland was in La Habra on business yesterday afternoon. W. E. Oswald, a successful business man here for many years, announces he has sold his service station on W. Commonwealth-ave., to V. L. Curran for 12 years in the automotive manufacturing business. Mr. Oswald retains his property interest here and will probably remain in Fullerton but has not yet decided what line of business he will follow. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Ellis and daughter, Beulah, of Imperial Valley have arrived in Fullerton for a months visit with relatives. Mr. and Mrs. John White and daughter Gertrude, of Fullerton, motored beyond Orange-co., park last evening where they expect to stay until Monday morning, camping out. The Veritas class of the Methodist Sunday school entertained the S. O. S. class of the same church at Newport last evening with a welnle bake and a corn roast. There were about 20 in attendance. Mr. and Mrs. L. T. Rogers and son, of Chapman-ave., will spend Sunday at the Long Beach home of Mr. Rogers' father, Mr. J. C. Rogers. Mr. and Mrs. Harry L. Ustick and Mr. and Mrs. L. M. Beck will spend the week-end at Forest Home. Miss Marie Beck and her chum, Miss May Salter, who recently went to Forest Home, will return with them. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Robinson, Emma Robinson and Charles Robinson and Richard Parker of Anaheim and Miss Marie Delong of Tustin will spend Sunday with Miss Amy Wheeler of Los Angeles, Miss Wheeler expects to leave next Thursday for a three months' visit with her brother in the east. The primary classes of the First Christian church of Fullerton held an entertainment at the city park yesterday afternoon under the direction of the primary teachers. Mr. and Mrs. George Linsay of Los Angeles were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond C. Smith last evening. Mrs. Gay Thompson and small son, Kenneth, of Brea canyon have returned from a week's vacation at Santa Monica. Measures, R. E. Durbin, J. Charles Seymore and R. S. Gregory left this morning for Long Beach where they will meet C. C. Chapman and together they will look over several Long Beach hotels for ideas and pointers which construction of the new Fullerton hotel. Mr. James Wesley Keith, member of the official board of the Christian church, who has been seriously ill and who underwent a serious operation at the Fullerton hospital yesterday morning was reported not improved after a very painful night and little hope is held out for his recovery. Mrs. J. H. Richardson is spending a few days with her sister, Mrs. D. C. Bates at Cypress. Mr. C. C. Wilkerson attended the Elks' parade Thursday evening, in Los Angeles. Mr. and Mrs. Will Benchley left this morning for a two weeks vacation in Oregon. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Skilliman and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Strain will spend the week-end at Camp Baldy visiting friends. Miss Julia Long, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. V. Long of 604 N.
