OPERATE TO LIFT NERVE FROM SPINE YORBA LINDA, July 16. (Spl.)—Merril Johnson, son of Mrs. M. Johnson, is recovering nicely from a serious operation performed Wednesday at the White Memorial hospital in Los Angeles. He has been in poor health for several weeks and has gradually become paralyzed, and the operation was to relieve the pressure of a nerve of the spine which was thought to be causing the trouble. On Friday members of the family stated that he was able to move his limbs so a complete recovery is looked for. Mr. J. J. Alexander has sold his barber shop here to a San Bernardino man named Hughes and Mr. and Mrs. Alexander will give possession next week. They have not fully made plans for the future, but rather expect to buy another shop somewhere in Orange-co. Mrs. M. Cards have been received here from Miss Irene Owen who taught in the local grammar school last year, announcing her marriage to John Miller of Norwalk, a few days ago. (Spl.)—A merry party of pleniceers went Sunday to the old swimming hole, ten miles from Corona, and after donning bathing suits, proceeded to enact some of the new famous parts in Mark Twain's Tom Sewyer. According to reports they all must be histrionically perfect—in those parts—for boyhood and girlhood days had nothing on this party when it comes to having a good time and when the Village Newagather next met the Fairy that resides in the vicinity of those waters the etheral creature declared that even she had something to think about the past few days as she had thought the children of men had long since forgotten how to enjoy the saner and simpler forms of enjoyment, such as gathering wild flowers and bathing in sylvan waters. The ones carrying the most important roles (baskets) were named Mr. and Mrs. Frank Green, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Lyndhurst, Mr. and Mrs. Danker and there may have been more, but the Fairy sensed that these were the stars of greater magnitude, therefore only the names of these were procured. Nuff ced. Mr. Albert Sanchez, who is employed at the postoffice in Los Angeles has been taking a vacation at Mrs. Tereso Sanchez's (his mother) ranch His son, Alphonse, accompanied him. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur W. Angel of Los Angeles were Yorba visitors yesterday. Mr. Angel is an eminent architect of the "Angelic City" and lately has had much business in his line in Orange-co. Such is the editorial comment appearing in a San Bernardino paper on the new allen poll tax law. County Clerk J.M.Backs stated today that he has had no complaints of aliens refusing to register, reports to the contrary notwithstanding. HOURS—10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 133½ W. Center St., Fisher Building, Anaheim ANAHEIM WORRIES OTHER ELK TEAMS Just how Anaheim looms up to the other teams in Elks baseball league may be obtained from the following published in the San Bernardino Sun and received by Manager Pete Hax today: "Practice of the Elks baseball club will be held tomorrow afternoon on the Urbita Springs diamond. The workout was postponed from today as most of the players will be in L. A. today attending the grand lodge. Next Sunday the local baseballers will go to Anaheim where they will meet possibly the strongest team in the strongest division. Anaheim has the reputation that stands without a peer in Elks baseball in So. Calif. The Orange-coasts stars have not lost a game in almost two years playing and give no evidence of weakening. However, the local lodge team will go down Sunday morning determined to take the contest if it can possibly be done, and the victorious streak of the Anaheim players may be badly dented when the contest is over. A number of rooters will accompany the team to Anaheim for the game." FINAL ARGUMENT IN TAX PROTEST HEARD Attorneys for the Birch Oil company yesterday gave the board of supervisors, sitting as a board of equalization, final arguments in the company's sixth annual protest against the tax assessment levied against the concern by Tax Assessor James Sleeper. Several employees of the Birch Oil Co. were called to testify as to the production of oil, financial standing of the company, and like matters. Standing of Clubs COAST LEAGUE W. L. Pet.
