PLACENTIA ADULT BIBLE CLASS MEETS
PLACENTIA, July 14. (8pl.) —
The Adult Bible class of the Presbyterian church held its monthly meeting at the home of Mrs. Joan Tayles Monday evening. Mr. Lillie talked to the class on the advisability of having a time set apart by the class members when they might all be in prayer. Mr. Fuller gave a short talk to the members as a sort of farewell address for the summer. He intends to be away for six weeks or two months. The latter part of the evening was spent in games and singing after which the hostess served refreshments.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Fuller expect to leave today for a motor trip to Portland, Ore., and will probably visit Vancouver before they return. They hope to see Miss Mabel Cutter and other friends who call for China at Vancouver.
Miss Mary A. Hall is visiting at the home of Mrs. Margaret Strain for a few weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Tyler, formerly Miss Maud Cavin, of Pasadena, visited her cousin, Mr. James Huntley Sunday. They kept their marriage last Tuesday, evening a secret until they arrived. Mrs. Tyler will visit her home at Paris, Ontario, Canada, then they will reside in Pasadena.

A jail year taking 20 days after he was married to Ethel Marsh, Sidney Ergleton, rather learned that the young woman at the time of their marriage had another husband living.
This fact was disclosed in a complaint filed by Attorney Clyde Bishop for Eggleton, in which the amendment of the marriage of Eggleton and Ethel Knight by Justice of the Peace J. B. Cox on July 31, 1926, is asked.
The complaint alleges that when the wedding occurred in Santa Ana, the girl was the undivorced wife of George Black, of Detroit, Mich. The complainant alleges that he did not know this to be the fact until July 11 of this year. The complaint states that the defendant in the action is now living in Newark, N.J. When the license was secured here last year the girl's age was given as 23. Eggleton's age was given as 25.
NO BIDS RECEIVED FOR $160,000 ISSUE
Directors of the Newport Heights Irrigation district at Costa Mesa today had under consideration plans for having a new water distributing system installed by contractors who will accept bonds of the district in lieu of cash.
The plans await approval of the state engineer, to whom application has been made for permission to advertise the bonds for sale or to advertise for hids under condition that the successful contractor accept the bonds.
The directors met at the company office at Costa Mesa to open bids for the issue of $160,000 bonds. Considerable disappointment was felt when the hour for opening arrived and no bids were filed for consideration of the board.
Fourteen hundred acres are included in the district, and a new distributing system is one of the imperative needs of the district, according to the directors.

With less than 150 feet to go the Clark Oil Co.'s Wetzel No. 1 is drilling at 3555 and as the bottom of the old hole is at 4100 new hole will be in the making now in a few days. The showings of the Standard's big wells on the Kraemer property adjoining makes the Clark look good.
The Fullerton Oil Co.'s Anaheim Union now drilling at 4638 has made almost a hundred feet of new hole and still the brown shale formation struck at 4200 remains unchanged. Not more than a 100 yards away the Standard has an 800 barrel well producing in the oil sand at 4265.
The General Petroleum discontinued drilling at Group 2-1 after reaching 4088 feet. The well has not made much of a showing and does not warrant further drilling. Davis No. 1 is putting in 8 inch to go ahead at 3247. Group 4-4 is rigging up cable tools to drill out cement at 384 and proceed. Hugo No. 3 is drilling at 1800 and No. 4 at 3665.
The Merchants Oil Co., formerly the Harrington-Dumas is setting boilers and getting ready to drill No. 2. No. 1 continues to produce at about 250 barrels daily.
The appearance of a little water in the Placentia-Pacific's No. 1 resulted in a recemting job. The second cementing was done at 3865, on bottom. From all indications this well will go into the producing list as soon as the water has been shut off. The well has been showing up in an excellent manner.
The Placentia Oil Co.'s No. 1 will not be drilled out before the end of the week. A good showing of oil was struck at 2900 feet and drilling was discontinued there and the water string set at 2875.
Production is steadily increasing at Bradford No. 1, Petroleum Development Co. Drilled to 4117 the well came in at 200 barrels, and it is now making 250 bbls, Bradford No. 2 is drilling in the oil sand at 4385 and is looking rather good. Bradford No. 5 on production at 4265 it is averaging about 100 barrels. The Bradford Community No. 1 now drilling at 4650 in sticky brown shale is not showing up very strong. Richfield No. 2 is drilling at 3350 and a rig is going up for No. 4.
The Petroleum Midway continues to bring in nice wells on the Yarnell property. No. 14, the latest completion, started off at 500 barrels. The new well was finished at 3215. Yarnell No. 9 will be the next producer, drilling at 3075; Carter No. 1 set 8 inch at 3806. Isaacs No. 2 is drilling at 400. On the Krug lease issue of $160,000 bonds. Considerable disappointment was felt when the hour for opening arrived and no blids were filed for consideration of the board.
Fourteen hundred acres are included in the district, and a new distributing system is one of the imperative needs of the district, according to the directors.
ORDER INQUEST IN SLAYING BY WOMAN
LOS ANGELES, June 14.-Coroner Nance arranged today to hold an inquiry at Acton in the case of Mrs. Nettle Platz, wife of a rancher, who, after an alleged attack, took the law into her own hands and killed Ernest P. Platz; her brother in law, Mrs. Platz was held in custody of Mrs. Nettle Yaw, a deputy sheriff, pending action by the jury.
Neighbors of Mrs. Platz expressed the belief that the jury would free her after hearing testimony concerning the alleged actions of her brother in law prior to the shooting.
Ernest Platz, termed a "neer do well of irrational tendencies," was said to have attacked the woman shortly after her husband left the house for a remote section of the ranch. A fierce struggle ensued between the man and the woman.
FRESNO FAIR PLANS AUTO BLDG.
FRESNO July 14.-Blds will be opened Friday for the erection of the new auto building at Fresno district fair, estimated to cost around $25,000 and construction on which will start immediately. The building 150x175 feet will mark the advance in the auto industry. The present building having been outgrown by increasing demands for space.
CHECK FLOOD DAMAGE
YUMA, Ariz., July 14.-In checking up the damage done by the breaking of the Colorado river levee, it is shown that the destruction was not heavy, though 1300 acres were flooded. The rise did some good in that it swept a dangerous sandbar out of the main channel of the Colorado river.
original showing at 3925 was one of the best of any of the wells in the field and the Richfield-Giant has every reason to expect a nice producer.

NURSERYMAN BUDS
1-1-4 MILLION TREES
Budding fruit trees at the rate of 40,000 to 50,000 trees a year for 20 years, is the remarkable record of R. A. Estrada, Fullerton's pioneer nurseryman. This is an aggregate of more than a million and a quarter of trees, which is doubtless the record for that line of work in the entire state.
Mr. Estrada's first work budding orange and lemon trees in Fullerton, was done for the Orange County Nursery which supplied trees for the entire county.
The groves about Fullerton, Placentia, Amherst, Escondido, San Fernando, La Habra, in fact the entire region for miles around were planted from stock budded by him.
After a year or two's work for Mr. Schumacher's nursery, Mr. Estrada established a nursery of his own and has become a pioneer in the business and also establishing an enviable record for the number and excellence of the trees he has supplied to orchardists.
This season has been one of Mr. Estrada's busiest since he took up the nursery business. In addition to budding ten or twelve thousand trees for his own nursery, adding new citrus stock to the number of 80,000 trees, and 1000 persimmons, he has kept busy budding for customers. An interesting contract he has just finished was the budding of 2,000 valencin oranges onto lemon trees for Mr. Carthart, who, getting discouraged at the low price of lemons, decided to convert half of his grove into oranges for which there is a more stable market.
