Society: Clubs: Lodges: Churches ENTHUSIASTIC MEETING An enthusiastic meeting of the old and new executive boards, the ways and means and lot committees of the Ebell club, was held yesterday afternoon at the home of Mrs. F. A. Backs pn. So. Claudina-st. The report of the solicitors for subscriptions from among the club members was most gratifying, in that it has covered but one week, and that week containing practically three holidays. Several of the workers were unable to be present at the meeting and their report will be received later. The ladies of the Ebell club have purchased the lot on the corner of Broadway and Claudina streets and have $1000 to raise to complete the purchase. Of this amount $600 was reported yesterday. The campaign for funds will be continued and another meeting is scheduled for Thursday afternoon, July 14, with Mrs. W. B. Holland, 412 Claudina-st at which time it is hoped a complete report may be heard. MARRIAGE LICENSES Daniel P. Riley, 23, Los Angeles and Iris H. Connor, 26, Fullerton. Stephen G. White, 23, and Drusilla M. Fowler, 21, both of Huntington Beach. ENJOYABLE AFTERNOON A thoroughly enjoyable meeting of the Wednesday afternoon Whist club was held yesterday with Mrs. J. L. Abbott at her home in Fullerton. 12 members of the club motored to her home, which had been brightened for the affair with quantities of white daisies. Several rounds were played, in which Mrs. W. P. Quarton, Mrs. J. L. Abbott and Mrs. M. S. Palmer won first, second and third prizes. These awards were beautifully framed pictures. M. Nebelung, Mrs. M. Palmer, Mrs. Alice Booth, Mrs. W. J. Jewel, Mrs. L. D. Witherill, Mrs. C. Martin, Mrs. A. Vall, Mrs. T. Deitrich, Mrs. W. D. Quarton, Mrs. Wade Quarton of Fullerton, and the hostess, Mrs. J. L. Abbott. PACKING HOUSE VISITORS Visitors at the Anaheim Orange & Lemon Asan packing house yesterday included: W. A. Richards; Tulsa, Okla.; Mr. and Mrs. J. B. AMARANTH MEETS TONIGHT Liberty Court Order of the Amaranth will hold the regular monthly meeting this evening in the usual place. A full attendance is earnestly desired. ANNUAL MITE BOX OPENING The Little Light Bearers and the Mothers Jewels of the Methodist church will hold their annual mite box opening Friday afternoon at 2:30. Mothers are urged to bring their little ones and enjoy the afternoon with them. SUCKERS PICNIC JULY 23 All former "Suckers," meaning those who have lived in Illinois before coming to California, are invited to attend the big state picnic held Saturday.-July 23, in Bixby Park, Long Beach. County headquarters and registration booths will be open all day and coffee will be provided by the society to all who will bring his own cup and spoon. Placentia News PLACENTIA, July 7, (Spl.)—Evelyn Bielefeldt motored to Los Angeles July fourth to witness the finals of the Pacific coast doubles tennis tournament which were played on the courts of the new Los Angeles Tennis club. Bob and Howard Kinsey, who hold third place in the national ranking of tennis players, defeated Roland Roberts and Willis Davis, national clay court champions in four closely contested sets, 5-7, 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 for the title. The Kinseys will leave for the cast shortly to compete in the national mens' doubles tournament. An exhibition singles match between May Sutton Bundy, former world's champion player and Miss Mary K. Browne, three times national champion elicited much applause from the gallery. Mrs. Bundy won the match in three sets, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4. Mrs. Bundy and Miss Browne leave early next week for the east where they will prepare to meet Mile. Lenglen, the phenomenal French player who recently won the world's turf court championship at St. Cloud, France, by defeating Miss Elizabeth Ryan. Miss Ryan, at one time, resided in the vicinity of Anaheim. The tennis world is enthusiastically awaiting the match between Mrs. Bundy on Miss Browne and Mile. Lenglen. After the eastern tournaments, great efforts will be made to induce Mile. Lenglen to come to Los Angeles to play on the courts of the Los Angeles Tennis club. Should their efforts prove fruitful, the local tennis fans will have the opportunity of their lives to see the world's greatest women players clash on local courts. Dr. W. J. Development work on the Fullerton Oil Co.'s Brea property now includes four wells.No .4 stands cemented at 2450.No .6 lost 500 feet of hole and is drilling by at 2786.No .14 stands cemented at 3395 and No .16 shows 3500 feet in the hard sand.The rigging up work is practically completed and things are in readiness to start drilling a deep test well in the heart of the old Puente field west of Brea This is one of California's Reserve District.
