SEAMANS RETURN FROM LONG TOUR
YORBA LINDA, July 6, (Spl.)—The Seamans' party consisting of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Seamans, Miss Ellen Anderson and Don Jose Sanchez, have returned from an extended trip in the north. They left June 8, and drove to Yosemite valley by way of Fresno and the Murinosa big trees arriving at Yosemite lodge Friday evening, where Mr. Sanchez and his teacher, Mrs. Seamans, began a two weeks' engagement appearing in concert each evening.
Mr. Sanchez appeared in brilliant Spanish costume and sang in Spanish, Italian and English to, large and appreciative audiences and soon became a favorite of the hotel guests and the entire valley. Many came from the Marlowe camps and even from Camp Curry to hear his beautiful songs.
The party was delegated on Friday, June 17, to Glacier Point hotel to participate in the opening concert of the season at that most delightful place, and there too, there music was highly appreciated by the many guests who heartily responded in word and applause.
The two weeks in wonderful Yosemite passed all too quickly and as the time drew near for departure, the Lodge, its guests and music lovers found it hard to let them go, as they indeed found it hard to tear away.
Camp Curry extended a very cordial invitation to the party to appear at their delightful resort, but time would not permit the pleasure.
From Yosemite they proceeded by the way of Oak Flats to Berkeley, Oakland and San Francisco, where Mr. Sanchez sang by appointment and was everywhere splendidly received. From there they continued south to Mount Hamilton and were entertained at Leck observatory at the home Mrs. Seamans cousin, Dr. Joseph Moore, one of the astronomers, and had the great privilege of viewing some of the stars through the large instruments.
The entire trip of approximately 1500 miles was made in safety and with practically no trouble, and was most delightful in every respect. Each member of the party returned in good health ready for hard work and their regular professional routine of business.

NO. CALIF. WOMAN COUNTY LIBRARIAN
Loud applause rang in the ears of the supervisors yesterday when they officially appointed Miss Anne Belle Bailey, 530 Warren-st, Redwood City, Cal., as librarian for the county free library.
The county free library committee of the fourth district Congress of mothers and Parent-Teachers associations, which has fought for the institution for more than two years, was on hand to see the appointment given the official stamp.
Miss Bailey is one of eight women recommended for the position, which carries a salary of $1,800 a year. Because of her excellent recommendations she was suggested for appointment by Supervisor Howard Wassum.
The appointment was voted by Wassum, Talbert and Schumacher. Supervisors Philey and Edwards who have opposed the library for some months, voted no on the proposition.
Miss Bailey was formerly Librarian for the San Mateo county free library, assistant in the reference department of the state library at Sacramento, assistant in general library work at Santa Clara and in the state normal school at San Jose.
Among her recommendations was one from Mrs. Elizabeth B. Snell, appointment secretary of the committee on recommendations of Stanford university.
Miss Bailey will take up her duties as county free librarian August 1st.
She will make her headquarters in Santa Ana.
"Reputation" Great Dramatic Triumph
"Reputation," the great drama of woman against woman, which comes to the Fairland Wednesday and Thursday nights, with Priscilla Dean in her forceful personality, is described by those who have seen the picture as her greatest dramatic triumph. The story was written by Edwina Levin under the title "False Colors." Additional features are Pathe Review and the comedy.
The Grand again tonight is showing "Earthbound," one of the greatest motion pictures recently shown by this theatre. Baill King's story of the unseen world holds the closest attention of the audience. The story of three college clums, one of whom believes in "everybody for himself," and with only himself to account for his belief, meets a tragic death, and his spirit becomes earthbound until he makes right all the sadness he has caused by his selfish belief. The finished acting of the principals is above that of the average picture.
The title of the comedy for the two evenings is "The Goof."
POLICE AFFAIRS RUNNING SMOOTHLY

The Village Gossip
Fitzhugh, 18, sat on a cellar door last night and tried to hold three young burglaries in captivity.
He didn't weight enough.
Three burglars showing desperately upward on the cellar door gave Gray an air journey that landed him on the ground with the door on top of him.
The three young men broke into the basement of the Padgham apartments at the corner of Ninth and Bush streets. Today they are endearing to dodge police officers who have them under suspicion.
The attempted burglary occurred about 10:30 o'clock last night. Fitzhugh Gray, grandson of Mrs. W. R. Edwards, a tenant of the apartments, heard voices at the rear of the place. Upon investigation he saw three young men lift a screen door from its hinges and enter the basement compartment of George Shattuck.
Gray attempted to trap the burglaries by replacing the screen over the cellar door. The burglaries were quick to realize that they had been detected and all three made a dash for liberty. Their only means of escape was thru the door which they had just entered.
Gray attempted to hold the screen door over the cellar entrance but the three men combined their efforts in opposition to him. Gray was thrown to the ground with the door on top of him and before he could pick him self up the burglaries fled into the street and disappeared.
George Shattuck today stated that this is the second time burglaries have attempted to rob his cellar.
Shattuck said that if the burglaries were seeking a fluid not now legally distributed, they were doomed to appointment and might as well give up their efforts.
"There is none of that kind of goods stored there," he said.
A report was made to the police department last, night and Officer Murray investigated. No trace could be found of the burglaries.

PUNISHMENT, FORM PUZZLE
Paul W. Tucker, arrested the latter part or last week on a charge of violating the rules of his probation order still is confined in the county jail pending action on the part of the authorities. Tucker was arrested after passing a worthless check for $10. It was drawn in the American National bank of Santa Ana and indorsed by H. G. Helser. The note was made payable to the Laguna Beach Tent City Co.

BIG AIR TOURNEY
LOS ANGELES, July 6.—All the well known tricks of the air and some new ones never before attempted will be pulled off at the mammoth International Air Tournament at the Los Angeles Speedway Saturday and Sunday, July 16 and 17. The most daring of the dare-devils of aeronautics have signified their intention of participating in the monster affair.
The air circus, which will be staged under the auspices of the Aero Club of So. Calif., will mark a fitting finale to the B. P. O. Elks convention here.
All the newest types of planes will be used in the tournament in addition to the many war planes in operation during the World War. The Army and Navy, too, will be well represented at the Speedway.
As a special feature, Promoter Bill Pickens has arranged a speed duel between Tommy Milton, winner of the 250-mile race at Tacoma July 4 and Roscoe Sarles, the pilot who grabbed off second money. Rivalry has been very keen between the two drivers for some time and during their race last Monday the two almost came to blows. Pickens, always scenting a thrill, arranged the race for the Speedway that the spectators might enjoy some close brushes between the star auto pilots.
