HEAVY SEASON FOR
SUMMER RESORTS
SACRAMENTO, June 27. — That the resort institutions in California's Resort Wonderland will enjoy one of the best seasons in its history, is evidenced by the great throng of tourists arriving daily in Sacramento to start their tours over the historic "Old Gold Trail" to the scenic grandeur of the Sierra, the National Parks and to the river and spring country of the Coast Range.
Never before have the resorts in the "Wonderland" territory been in better position to handle the tourists. From all through the region comes reports of new buildings, added recreational features and improved highways.
At Lake Tahoe a new dining room and dance hall has been erected at Tahoma Resort. The building commands a splendid view of Tahoe's waters and is one of the largest of the buildings on the lake. Tahoma has added kitchenettes to all of the light housekeeping cottages and the service of a mechanic will be available at the resort garage. The three holes which have been added to the golf course at Tahoe Tavern, located at the north end of the lake, is an appreciated feature and the privileges of the new swimming tank is available to the Tavern guests. All highways leading to Lake Tahoe are now in splendid shape except portions of the Tioga Road.
Competing cars for the annual sociality and economy run from Sacramento to Lake Tahoe have all been entered. The route this year will be over the old gold trails of the famous "wishbone tour," going via Auburn and Truckee to Tahoe Tavern, skirting the western shores of the lake and returning by way of Talac and Placeville.
From Lassen Volcanic National Park comes the word that the boiling springs and mud pots are bolling more freely this season than for years past. The various volcanic formations and earth freaks of the Lassen country are worth a long journey.

HOLLY SUGAR CORP.
TO DRILL AT BEACH
Declaring that his company "is going to mix oil and sugar," to demonstrate whether oil will come to the top as it does in a mixture of oil and water, A. E. Carlton, president of the Holly Sugar Co., today announced that his company is making preparations for developing oil on 70 acres of land it controls at Huntington Beach.
Oil lease holdings of the company, it is said, are in proximity to the sugar factory at Huntington Beach. The Holly Sugar Corp. is one of the strongest financially of the big corporations operating in this country and the fact that it is to enter actively into the development of the Huntington Beach oil field is looked upon as presaging further and more rapid development of the territory.
Carlton is here from Colorado Springs, Colo., coming to give the proposed oil operations of his company his personal attention in the direction of the preliminary work. He is accompanied by his sister, Mrs. A. C. McGruder; father, H. M. Carl-

HEAVY DEMAND FOR NEW SAVAGE TIRE
Big Demand for New Savage Cord Tire
The new Savage cord, termed by its many friends "A Mighty Tire," the advent of which has been anxiously awaited in local auto circles for some time, is now here and enjoying great popularity. L. J. Heffner, Orange-co distributor of Savage tires, says there is a large demand for this tire and that both dealers and motorists have shown great interest in it ever since it was first learned that the Savage organization had decided to build a cord tire.
The Savage representative is very enthusiastic about this new cord. He states that it is a tire of unquestionable quality, so built as to insure the greatest possible amount of uninterrupted service. The Savage cord is a beautiful, ebony-black casing of striking individuality that embodies the best of modern cord tire features, together with the added strength an durability that results from more piles of cords, extra heavy side-wall construction, special interlocking bead, and a scientifically designed tread. The Savage cord is briefly described by the local representative as a mighty tire, built from the highest grade of raw materials used in generous proportions with positively no shoddy or adulterants in it; a cord on which no time or expense is spared to make it the foremost tire in the cord tire world.

OVERTIME IN JUNE

Furthemore, Orange-co is doing its share toward helping to set a new marriage license record in California.
For, it was stated today by County Clerk J. M. ('Cupid') Backs, this will be the banner month for Orange-co in the number of licenses issued.
Two hundred and ten licenses have been recorded so far in June by County Clerk Backs.
The largest number of licenses issued for any previous month this year were handed out last month. They totaled 186.. Beginning at the beginning, 163 were issued in January, 141 in February, 162 in March, 173 in April and 186 in May.
This makes a total of 1035 for the year 1921 to date.
According to County Clerk Backs, the largest number of licenses recorded for one month previous to this was in June 1920, when a total of 206 was recorded.
That Cupid's 1921 record in California will surpass all previous records, even outdoing 1920, which was the banner marriage year in the state's history, is shown in figures compiled by State Registrar L. E. Ross in charge of the bureau of vital statistics of the state board or health.
Incomplete figures for the first four months show that Cupid is 413 marriages ahead of his record for the same period last year.
Records thus far received by Ross for the four months reveal that 13,612 marriages were performed, compared with 13,189 for the same period in 1920. Ross announced that the 1921 figures will be increased by about 250 when all returns are in.
California began its record setting base in matrimony in 1919, when the soldiers began to return from France and the training camps.
In 1920 all records were broken, with 46,564 marriages performed, and this year's pace is even faster.
ANAHEIM ORANGES LEADING MARKET
In New York Monday the following is reported:
Anaheim Gloriana $6.40
Delieis (Sunkist) 5.95
Doria (Sunkist) 5.95
Favorita 5.65
These brands are packed by the Anaheim Orange and Lemon Assn. Manager G. W. Sandilands states that one-third or a little over 300 cars of valencia oranges had been shipped from this house.
This house has three pools, each comprising approximately one-third of the crop. The house is now well started on the second pool. All orchards have been put in shape to carry the load and all young and weak trees cleaned up. The present pooling system seems to be the most satisfactory of any method previously tried.
Shipments have been reduced to meet the competition of cantaloupes. The next week will find this fruit heaviest in the market after which the season will wind up rapidly.
It is expected that the valencia season will last until the middle of November and it is anticipated that the last pool will bring high prices on account of the scarcity of eastern desciduous fruits and a possible reduction in the freight rates.

JUDGE BRITTAIN
VISITS ORANGE-CO
At the request of the Public Utilities Committee of the Orange County Farm Bureau, Judge F. S. Brittain, counsel for the California Farm Bureau Federation, spent Saturday, June 25th, in Orange county looking over the public utilities situation here.
Brittain was met by W. M. Belding, president of the Farm Bureau, E. E. Campbell, vice president, Dr. J. R. Schofield, secretary, Sidney Saunby, chairman Public Utilities Committee, Dr. S. S. Twombly, Fullerton, H. H. Hale, Placentia, and S. C. Hartranft, president Fullerton Farm Center.
Friday was spent in San Bernardino county and Saturday in Orange. Brittain is gathering material for a hearing on excess agricultural rates that will be held sometime in the fall.
The local committee presented a number of striking cases that are concerning Orange county farmers. He was taken over portions of the county and acquainted with irrigation and pumping conditions.
Judge Brittain was highly impressed with the progress of the Public Utilities work done by the Orange County Farm Bureau and felt that relief would finally come to agricultural power users if they stuck together.
