SHELL PIERCES 250 FEET OF OIL SAND
Long Beach
Drilling was stopped on the Shell Co.'s Signal Hill well at 3114. At this depth the drill was still in the oil sand, but on account of the fear of encountering bottom water it was thought best to stop and make a production test. From 2735 to the completion depth of 3114 more than 250 feet of good oil sand has been pierced. The sand seemed to show considerable oil, lots of gas, and a producer of 300 or 400 barrels can be fully expected. The hole was drilled with the greatest care and does credit to Superintendent Yowell. The 8 in. now in is being pulled out to run back in with perforated. The well will be ready for a balling test about Saturday or Sunday.

The Huntington National has its rig up and ready to start putting in the machinery. On account of the closeness of the rig to the highway it is understood that the rig may have to be moved back a few feet.
