MAKE PREPARATIONS FOR FAIR EXHIBIT
GARDEN GROVE, June 14.—Last Friday night at the home of Mrs. J. V. Kelsey, the Orange-co. Fair committee met and formulated the initial plans for Garden Grove's participation in this annual event held under the direction of the Huntington Beach chamber of commerce. This exhibition is rapidly taking its place as an interesting and valuable opportunity for agricultural progress it is believed.
Cash rises will be awarded for the best exhibits of fruit, vegetables, poultry, live stock, culinary products, needlework and numerous other articles. Individual communities will present local prizes for the best entries from their respective communities.
In last year's fair Garden Grove won the first prize of $50 awarded for the best district display. This money will be used in the improvement of this year's exhibit.
Efforts are being started early as other communities have boasted that they would "Beat Garden Grove to it, this year."
The committee decided to solicit the farmers and business men of Garden Grove to offer prizes for individual exhibits and for the larger variety of products displayed by any one person of this vicinity.
Committees in charge of the various branches of the work are:
Advertising, J. O. Arkley; soliciting produce, J. G. Allen; domestic science, Mrs. E. R. Stilens; cold storage products, A. A. Schnitger; poultry, Mrs. J. V. Kelsey; school exhibits, Mrs. William Kirwin; antiques, art and fancy work, Mrs. C. C. Violett.
Everyone wishing to enter an exhibit should see a person in charge of the division under which this display comes. People having perishable products should make immediate arrangements with A. A. Schnitger regarding preservation in cold storage.
Invitations are out announcing the wedding of Miss Helen Hedstrom, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. Hedstrom, to Vernon Farquhr, of Hollywood, which will take place at the Baptist church in Garden Grove, Tuesday evening, June 21, at eight o'clock. Miss Hedstrom has been attending the Redlands university during the past three years.
