ATTEMPT TO HOLDUP STAGE
Driver Grimes, who took the nine o'clock Motor Transit stage out of Fullerton Tuesday night, had rather a novel experience on the way down. When a few miles out of the county seat one of the passengers fired a revolver into the air, following the action by insisting that a tire had blown out and that the driver stop the stage to investigate.
Grimes declined to fall for the ruse, the manifest intent of which was to get him out of the stage to face a probable holdup, and in spite of remonstrances kept right on going at a rate of speed that would make it perilous for the man to jump out. The latter threatened him, it is said, with his revolver, but Grimes refused to obey instructions.
Arriving at Santa Ana he called an officer and had the man arrested on suspicion of attempting highway robbery. The revolver is said to have been found on the man.
SAYS HE STOLE HORSES
City Marshal Thwing has arrived home from Fresno having in custody Ernest Hansen, who was arrested at Fresno on advices from Marshal Thwing. Hansen was later taken to the Santa Ana jail.
According to Marshal Thwing, Hansen made a written confession before leaving Fresno which the officer turned over to the district attorney. Among the others things confessed by Hansen is the theft of two horses, one of which was taken from its owner in Carbon Canyon, Orange county, and the other stolen in Tulare county.
Hansen told the officer where the horses were, saying he left one at Mohave and not in Hollywood. He did not sell them, he says,
