PLEASANT SURPRISE FOR MILDRED TEEL
OLINDA June 1 (Spl.)—Little Mildred Tell was given a surprise last Saturday at her home on Neenno Hill when a number of her friends dropped in on her to help celebrate her eighth birthday. About 4 p.m., her uncle came along and invited her to go to The General Petroleum's Tonner No. 6 is now the deep well of the Tonner group drilling in Brea canyon. At 4065 this well is in hard shale and is not showing any indications of oil, Tonner No. 6 has been suspended. No. 11 is drilling in hard sand at 2145, and No. 12 stands cemented at 1184. Drilling deeper on No. 1 the discovery well of the field is now at 1666. Indication are warranting an increase in the production.
Drilling on the Olinda Land Co.'s two wells in the old Olinda field show good progress, and also indications for two nice wells. No. 22 at 2650 is in hard land and No. 23 the well that showed the light oil at 375 feet is still strong with the showing at 375.
At Olinda the West Coast Oil Co.'s two wells drilling, No. 83 at 1000 feet is in the blue shale, No. 77 went to 1900, met with some pipe trouble and is now redrilling at 1645.
The Union has only two wells drilling now in the Brea canyon field: Stearns No. 23 shows 2500 feet of hollow and No. 56 at 1190 is in shale and shell.
Two new lakes are standing and grades for five wells have been made; but it is doubtful if these wells will start drilling. The Union owns the Stearns property and will develop when work on leases and offsets is not so pressing.
On the Graham-Loftus the Union brought in No. 51 a 125 barrel well last week, No. 53 a deep test well is drilling at $150, the formation being brown shale. The deep well is being watched with some interest as it may mean a lot of new work on an old property.
TRADE DEVELOPMENT URGED IN SO.CALIF.
"With our cotton, our petroleum and our electric power, So Calif." is the logical place for the manufacture of goods for a large part of the world," declared Maurice Carosso, foreign trade advisor, of Los Angeles, in an address before Santa Ana Rotary club.
Carosso declared that two-thirds of the world's population is in countries touching the pacific, and with the Panama canal half of the population of the United States can be reached by water transportation.
The speaker declared that conscious study of foreign countries, their people and their language and needs, is necessary if the United States is to take the place it should...

PLEASANT SURPRISE FOR MILDRED TEEL
OLINDA, June 1, (Spl.)—Little Mildred Tell was given a surprise last Saturday at her home on Nenno Hill when a number of her friends dropped in on her to help celebrate her eighth birthday. About 4 p.m., her uncle came along and invited her to go to Fullerton for a ride. When she returned she found the dining room beautifully decorated with tiny pink roses, green forms and white jasamine, the central decoration being a large, white angel food cake with eight pink candles.
After a little program by the children the cake was cut and served with delicious ice cream.
Miss Mildred received many lovely presents and the fact that 18 were not afraid of the rain and fog Saturday evening speaks of the love which her guests have for her. The guests of honor were her grandmother, Mrs. May; an aunt, Miss Linda Max; Mr. Kenneth Groetsinger, and Rev. Arthur Dorsey.

Carasso declared that two-thirds of the world's population is in countries touching the pacific, and with the Panama canal half of the population of the United States can be reached by water transportation.
The speaker declared that conscious study of foreign countries, their people and their language and needs, is necessary if the United States is to take place it should have in the world marketing. Steps for financing foreign trade are being taken in the organization of the Foreign Trade corporation. Organized efforts and a better understanding of world peoples, he said, will bring about foreign trade development.
It is Carasso's opinion that the future prosperity of the country depends largely on foreign trade, for this country produces more than it uses.
The development of Los Angeles harbor is less than three years to the third port of the world in the number of vessels coming and going was commented upon by J. B. Joneses, editor of The Commercial News of Los Angeles.
Both speakers declared that there is a future for Newport Harbor, that what is needed is enthusiasm and interest on the part of those who should see the harbor into its period of development.

DEEP TEST FINDS
OIL AT 4200 FEET
At almost 4200 the Brea Canyon Oil Co.'s No. 22 struck an oil sand that gave the well its greatest encouragement since this deep test well was started a year ago. While the drilling is still going on inside a three inch pipe, the showing is good enough to warrant a nice producer if brought in at the present time. The sand will be penetrated as far as possible and then the well will be brought in. The showing of this well gives the needed encouragement to deep drilling in the Brea field. No. 23, the well that created the big stir last week by blowing out has quitted down, and as soon as all the gas pressure has been released the drilling will be resumed at 3200 feet. In the blow out the well made but little oil. No. 2-A is drilling at 2700 in shale.
The Columbia Oil Producing Co.'s Orange No. 7 now drilling at 3460 is in the oil sand and looks like a nice well. Drilling on the Plico No. 2 is at 3225 in sandy shale. Plico No. 3 is testing water at 2800 and No. 4 Plico stands cemented at 1460. In Brea canyon Menchego No. 1 is standing idle at 3250. Menchgo No. 2 is getting to be one of the deep wells of the field, drilling now at 3600 it is in sandy shale, and looks like it will have to go considerably deeper to get into something good. Fisher No. 2 is the Columbia's next well to start drilling.
The Fullerton Oil Co. is maintaining four strings of tools in the Brea field and is doing some good work. At No. 4 2345 feet of hole shows sandy shale. No. 6 held up for a few days with a washing job is about ready to make a new hole. No. 14 stands cemented at 2395, and No. 16 has completed rigging up for the rotary and will be drilling at 3225.

Too many business men become wrapped up in their business enterprise and fail to look forward to the time when they will want and need the comforts of a home and family.
They are too busy to give consideration to the wife, to take a little time off and show her the attention that she craves in her younger life. They don't keep in touch with their children and cultivate closer ties of relationship with them. They plunge into business and neglect these essentials to a happy and comfortable old age.
The man who does not give attention to the development of the closer home ties is going to miss something that is very necessary to his happiness and comfort when he hits the toboggan of declining years.
He declared the people of So. Cal and many opportunities and more holidays that made it possible for them to ease up the strain and to enjoy at longer life.
He declared also that one of the most comforting things to the individual in the period of declining years was the acceptance and observance of the teachings of Jesus Christ.

URGES BUSINESS MEN AVOID HARD GRIND
Temperance in the expenditure of vitality in business pursuits or closer relations to children by the father and greater consideration for the wife and mother in her younger life were given as essentials to the comfort and happiness of the business man in his dolling years by Dr. G. T. Harding, youngest brother of President Warren G. Harding, in an address before the Santa Ana Kiwanis club.
"The business man will take every precaution to provide for a rainy day," said the speaker. "He gives little or no consideration to conservation of his vitality. He is given to intemperate activity — an activity that reacts and has its effect on his phone 326-W
