SET PIPE AT 1754 ON CENTRAL No. 68
Whittier and Santa Fe Sorings
At No. 68 the Central Oil Co. set pipe at 1754, where a nice showing of oil was struck. No. 69 is drilling in the oil sand at 1835 and promises to be the Central's next producing well.
A final decision has been reached on the Mascot Oil Co.'s Gregg No. 2. After standing for a month waiting on orders the well is now to be abandoned and the rig torn down. Drilled to almost 4300 feet the well never even exhibited a good showing. It was plugged back to 3900 in the hope of picking up a showing that was noted on the way down. This proved to be small, about a baller full a week.
The Ocean View Oil Co., formerly the Lechleigh interests, is making preparations to drill No. 2 well. No. 1 at one time was a 100 barrel well but quickly depleted. It is to be re-drilled and deopened.
Fishing for casing still occupies the attention of the Bandini Oil Co. Casing lost at 3450 is proving difficult to recover.
In spite of the fact that the So. Calif. Oil Co. has some oil in the hole at Sanderson No. 1 progress and now hole is being made. The log now shows 1365, hard sand.
With only ten feet more to go the Shell Co. of California Hart No. 1 will be at 4000 feet. The formation is now a sandy brown shale and is showing a little more encouragement than at any time since the well started drilling. It appears now that if oil is struck it will be a very deep sand. Cole No. 1 shows 3885 in a sandy shale.
On account of the possibility of the pipe being stuck at Whitley No. 5 it may be a few days before drilling will resume. A recent test of a showing made at 2325 resulted in a decision to go deeper. An effort will be made to loosen the 8 inch and go ahead. Whitley No. 6 is drilling out the cement at 2214 and making a water test. No. 6 is rigging up.
The Standard Oil Co. has increased development work on the Bastanchury another well. No. 1 is drilling at 3300 and No. 5, a 5200 foot well drilled by the Union some years ago.
2 will be struck. Meyer No. 5 is going nicely at 3400. Bell No. 1 shows 9453 feet, but redrilling is now at 3276. Gregg No. 1 at Rideout Heights is being plugged for abandonment.
The Eddistone Oil Co. makes an announcement this week (that is of great interest to every oil operator in Southern California). Preparations are being made to drill a deep test well on the old Puente lease north of Breach. This old property is famous.
The first wells were drilled on it in 1881, the second well in California being located on the property. No wells have been drilled since 1898.
About 70 shallow wells were drilled on the Puente's holdings. Forty-five of the original wells are still producing; they run all the way from a half-barrel to 17 barrels, the property producing about 1600 barrels a month. Some of the wells have been producing for 355 years. The property is part of the Columbia Oil Co.'s holdings and came into the hands of the Eddistone Co. recently.
Many operators have asked why a deep well was not drilled on the property long ago; the well will be drilled now and soon we will know if California's oldest producing property has a deep sand.
The Eddistone will drill the deep test well in the best part of the property. Heretofore operators have drilled deep test walls on the edge and got nothing. Drilling in the heart of the field for a deep test well is a change in the order of things.

The National Exploration Co. has two interesting wild cat well drilling. At Chino canyon the pipe trouble with the casing at 1300 feet has been overcome, the string of 15 1:2 inch has been landed successfully. Drilling at Olinda No. 1 is meeting with a lot of success, as the well is only 2300 feet deep and the showings in the sandy snale are most encouraging. Both wells will open up a lot of new territory for the southern field.
Both the National Security Co. and the Orange County Petroleum Co. are doing consistent drilling in the Orange county park district. National Security No. 1 is down 2000 feet and Orange County Petroleum is close to 1500 feet.

STILL LOOKS GOOD
NEWPORT
The Long Beach Consolidated Oil Co.'s No. 1 now drilling at 2775 continues to show considerable light oil and looks like it will make a well. While the showing is not strong enough to make a commercial well at present, it looks like there is something better deep.
Drilling is going good for Laguna Beach Oil Assn at Newport, Some 2500 feet of hole has been made. Blue snale has been the predominating formation for several hundred feet.
Under the direction of Wm. Wilgle the Wirscher & Gary Oil Co. is making a record for Newport hard drilling. At 600 feet the hard sand was struck and at the present depth of 1575 the formation remains unchanged.
