MARTIN AND NAYLOR ENGAGEMENT TOLD BUENA PARK, May 25.—(Spl.)—Mr. and Mrs. Edward Martin announced the engagement of their daughter Miss Margaret to Mr. James W. Naylor on Saturday, May 21, at a four o'clock tea. The guests included Mrs. Howard Haggarty, Mrs. John Robertson, Mrs. Frank Ashmore, Mrs. Arthur Byrne, Mrs. Harold Coyrey, Mrs. Albert Messeraghmidt. The out of town guests were Mrs. Julia Cann of Stonebrough, Pa., Mrs. Alice V. Stevenson of Pittsbury, Pa., Misses Hasel, Sadie and Laila Thrusher of Corona, Mrs. Marion Elliott and Miss Harriet Gould of Los Angeles. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tweedy and daughters Evelyn, Hasel and Mable of Florence were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Greens. James Clifford Page was awarded a special ribbon at the Baby show on Saturday. Miss Leila, Sadie and Hazel Thrusher of Cornona were week end guests of Miss Margaret Martin. Mr. Chris Buell was a businer's visitor to Los Angeles on Monday. Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Canton and daughter spent Monday with Mr. Caution's mother near Cypress. Mr. Caution is a driver on the Crown Stage Line, broke a wheel of the stage on Sunday at Buena Park. To avoid hitting a machine that skidded in front of the stage Mr. Cookson turned into a ditch breaking off the wheel. A large Premier skidded off the boulevard Sunday, going through the fence into the 1.D Jaynes ranch. There will be a district school meeting on Tuesday, May 1, from eight to 10 p.m. for the purpose of deciding on additional school land and a new school building. Little Margie Boyle was entered in the Baby show and found perfect in every thing, but was two inches too short for her weight. She was the only Baby entered that was raised on goat milk. The Fullerton Post of the American Legion will give a minstrel show on Friday evening at the School hall under the amphitheater of the Buena Park Masona. There are 30 in the cost and the hall should be well crowded on been the guest of Mrs. George Beors and her mother, Mrs. Eliza Sherman for several days, has returned to her home. F. J. Prants, who has been recuperating at the Glendale Sanitarium has returned to his son's home for a short visit. He will locate in Whittier. Dave Linley was visiting his family over Sunday. Linley is "wildcatting" for the Standard in San Francisco valley. Linley reports a very heavy rainfall in that section and that the cabbage left The fields and Here floating down the streets in wagon load lots, having washed out by the rain. Dr. and Mrs. F. C. Coltrin are at present located at the Stambeau Hall, Dr. Coltrin has business interests here and will divide his time between her and his ranch in Riverside-co. The road leaden to the Standard camp, La Mitraokal, will have a 4-inch top dressing soon. The grading on Cyprus-ayre has been completed and that street put in good condition. West Coast Lease WEST COAST, May 25.—(Spl.)—Mr. and Mrs. James were Whitler visitors last Sunday. On their return home met up with a heavy rain storm. Mr. and Mrs. Reynolds of Brea were over on West Coast yesterday, called at her sister's to find her nursing a sick tooth. Miss Regina Sieberns has been entertaining her friend Miss Lillian Gaano over Saturday and Sunday. Saturday afternoon they took in the Orange show in Anahism. Ms. Howard Flynn's mother, Mrs. Audrada of Anaheim, has been visiting on West Coast for a few weeks, as Mrs. Flynn has been on the sick list. Her friends will be glad to know that she is able to be up and around again. Mr. C. H. Kreem was a Fullerton visitor today. BREA NEWS The Union Label League will have another one of their old-time dances in the Sewall hall tonight. Everybody welcome. NEW OIL SYNDICATE Another oil company composed of GRADUATION JUNE 3 AT CYPRESS SCHOOL CYPRESS, May 25—(Spl.)—All Cypress grammar school children are looking forward with anticipation to their graduating exercises on June 3. The P.T. A. has bought curtain material and is making the curtains for the stage. There are 10 in the graduating class, six boys and four girls. The children of the grammar school postponed their picnic from last week to some time in the near future. Mr. Will Bensley and Mr. Ray Bensley went to Los Angeles Monday. Mr. O. W. LeMar has had for his guest since Saturday his brother from Los Angeles. Mr. LeMar expects to stay until Tuesday. Mr. Tom Harris is having a new well drilled by Mr. Tuquoy, not an oil well. Little Jack Campbell of Cypress was one of the lucky ones at the baby show being awarded a special blue ribbon. LA HABRA-PLANNING BIG-IMPROVEMENTS LA HABRA, May 25—The Chamber of Commerce held a meeting at the fire hall Monday evening. Consideration was given the immediate widening of Central Ave. on the south side. Shoemaker and Smith are ready to make the survey as soon as the business men make the first move. The George and Glazier blocks, the Star office, the bakery and some of the smaller buildings will have to be moved back. This much needed action is a "seven-league step toward a great improvement for the town" it is said. Most of Wester and Young's Walnut Park addition has been sold. A sale was made recently to Mrs. Evelyn Hart for a home site. The opening of the new Beck tract will put some very fine dwelling sites on the market. Mr. W. M. Rhodes was honoured to the A.N.C. club on Monday afternoon. Representatives of four concerns thought to be some of the larger oil companies are working in the territory and it is reported that a number of offers have been made, some of them for royalties will $150 bonus for a six month lease. The nearest operating well is about one mile from Talbert, but a rig being erected on the Will Thompson ranch at the edge of the Talbert valley and the Courreges and Incadanne ranches have been leased for some time. It is understood that 12 residents of the district have been approached for leases on their holdings and that nerotitations are under way with several land owners. MAN IN AUTOMOBILE CASE IS BOUND OVER Charged with driving an automobile while intoxicated, O. Campbell of San-Ta Ana, today stood bound over to the superior court. He is at liberty on $200 cash ball. Campbell preliminary hearing was held before Justice of the Peace Cox yesterday afternoon. The complaining witness was Herbert Q. Davis, secretary of the Orange Co. Auto Trade association. Other witnesses were Constable Jesse Elliott City Marshal Sam Jernigan, Dr. R. A. Cuthman and F. H. Snyder. Campbell's arrest followed a collision between his car and a machine owned by Davis, which was parked near the corner of Third and Spurgeon stn. All of the witnesses testified that in their opinion the defendant was intoxicated when arrested. Dr. Cushman told or examining the defendant in the county jail. He said that his tongue was thick, that his eye pupils were dilated, that his heart beat was rapd and that he had an alcoholic breath and staggered when he walked.
