TAUTENHAHN FLAYS SHORT DRESS CRAZE In a german on the short shirt craze which has enveloped the world, Rev. R. W. Tautenhahn, pastor of the German Methodist church, mercilessly flayed church women who dress in this manner and church men who encourage it by keeping company with such women. His text was taken from the quotation, "Solomon loved many strange women." That's the ruin of our generation," Rev. Tautenhahn declared. "Young men like to see too many strange women in shows and dances. Strange women indeed they are who are not ashamed to act and expose themselves as they do. It's a bunch of barlots that are furnishing entertainment for our great party of pleasure seekers. It was strange women that ruined Solomon for time, and I fear for eternity, and it is ruining many today. Many girls and women have cast virtue and modesty to the wind, not being ashamed to run around in a civilized country with hardly more than a bathing suit on. Those who have a little moral sense left have to be afraid to walk up a stair or step to pick a flower. When they sit down they try to pull down something to cover themselves with, but there is nothing to pull down. It's all cut off. It's time to call a halt. It's bad enough that all common sense and virtue and modesty has left the show houses, so that some movie managers themselves are getting alarmed over the reckless conditions, but when church people begin cutting off their clothes, it's the limit. Girls, do you want to belong to that Godless shameless bunch that no longer blushes to suggest a low standard of morality and sinful mind by their way of dressing? You may not know it, but it is a fact that Paris harlois create most of the present day vulgar styles, and fashions to attract the attention of the opposite sex, and I tell you, women are getting the attention often in a way not expected. It is only too bad that many innocent ones have to suffer. Why is it that a woman alone is not safe anymore after sundown? There may be 3 TRACK MEETS TO BE HELD THIS WEEK Three track meets are scheduled for Fullerton high school teams to compete in this week. Huntington Beach Prehmen will come to Fullerton Monday afternoon and on Wednesday afternoon Fullerton Sophomores will go to Huntington Beach. Saturday afternoon a county freshman meet will be held at Fullerton in connection with the school fair, the schools which have agreed to participate being Orange, Anahelm, Santa Ana, Huntington Beach and Fullerton. This latter meet is expected to bring out a good lot of talent and develop spirited competition. 4 YOUTHS ACCUSED OF BEATING MEXICAN Four Olinda youths charged with battery upon the person of Pedro Esarte, Mexican, were arraigned in justice court at Santa Ana. They were Rae Elder, 18; Carl Elder, 17; Paul Elder, 15, and Berl Elder, 13. The eldest was held in the justice court while the other three were certified to the juvenile court. The four brothers are alleged to have beaten Esarte with their fists May 15 in a raw over some pasture lands. It is understood that the Elders and Esarte both wanted to run thend cattle on the same ground. HIGHWAY MAY SKIRT SEAL BEACH, WORD Unless finances can be raised to build a bridge with a movable span over Alamitos bay, the coast boulevard will undoubtedly be built inland after it leaves Long Beach city limits, and will not become a coast boulevard again until after it has passed Sean Beach. This was the stand taken by N. D. Darlington, state highway commissioner for So. Calif., at a hearing held in Long Beach which was attended by Billie Templeton, representing the Seal Beach Chamber of Commerce directors, J. P. Transue, and others from Seal Beach. Darlington said that the war department is adamant in its stand that no bridge without a movable span may be built over navigable waters. The war department having de- clothes, it's the limit. You may not know it, but it is a fact that Paris harlots create most of the present day vulgar styles, and fashions to attract the attention of the opposite sex, and I tell you, women are getting the attention often in a way not expected. It is only too bad that many innocent ones have to suffer. Why is it that a woman alone is not safe anymore after sundown? There may be various causes, but shameless dressing is one of them. It works on certain men like a red rag on a steer. It is not ministers alone who are being alarmed over conditions. "Not only a few old foggies and the church are protesting, but men in colleges, editors of newspapers and of magazines, and of these not only old men but college students are protesting against the clothless girls who are coming into the dance halls of the universities. Some colleges have closed their dance halls until some girls will dress more and paint less. Young fellows had better beware of kissing some girls. They are likely to die of paint coli. How can church people dress this way, and expect to stand before the Son of Man?" COMPLIMENT DRAMATIC COACH Students of Mrs. D. G. Balcom, dramatic coach, at the Anaheim high school speak very highly of her, saying she has done a great deal for the school. Under his direction debates were won over Long Beach, Compton and Alhambra, won honors in the So. Cal. Debating League and won second place in the Orange-co. Debating League. Who is the faith healer. John Oliver, pastor of the First Methodist church of that city. It is declared that many business men of Santa Ana and Anaheim who have been approached on the question, have expressed themselves as favoring the movement, approval by merchants in other cities being given on condition that Santa Ana business men take the lead in the movement. Thursday afternoon is suggested as the time of the half-holiday, it to supplant the custom of many merchants in closing Saturday afternoon during the summer months. It is said that grocerymen in particular are very favorable to the half-holiday closing in the middle of the week. They declare that it is possible for them to close afternoons on a mid-week day and not possible on Saturday afternoons. Pastors assert their belief that a half holiday Thursdays will prove more beneficial to owners and employers of merchandise establishments than will closing Saturday afternoons. It would give them opportunity for a brief respite from their daily labors, thus conserving their energies, in the opinion of the ministers. At the most recent meeting of the club, recommendation was made that Wednesday night be made prayer meeting night generally throughout the county. With the exception of Santa Ana and one or two other communities in the county, churches are holding the midweek meetings on Wednesday nights. Pastors of those churches in communities where Thursday night rules for holding prayer meetings have been discussing the recommendation with members of their congregation, and it is said that it is very probable that it will be adopted. ANNOUNCE Y. M. C. A. for water to the pool is being installed so that the water may be changed two or three times a week if necessary, thereby keeping the pool at clean as possible. The building committee recommended to the finance committee a budget of $1200 which is to provide for the necessary repairs to the plant and the regular county quota for 1921, with the salary of a man to be employed three days a week to supervise the work at the building. A tentative program for the summer work was drawn up by the Y. M. C. A. secretaries and adopted by the building committee. The program calls for the organization of a class often for the organization of classes of boys according to age, which are to have the use of the grounds at certain definite times, under the direction of the instructor. Membership cards will be sold to the boys and the plant run similar to the gym glasses in the city Y. M. C. A. buildings. Boys under 12 years of age will be admitted to the grounds at nine o'clock for an hour of play and games. At 10 o'clock the first class have the pool and boys from 12 to 14 are admitted to the play grounds. At 11 o'clock the first class come out of the pool and the second class go in, and swim till noon. The boys from 14 to 16 will have the use of the grounds at 2:30 in the afternoon, swim at 3:30 and be away at 4:30. One of the features planned and which it is hoped will find a hearty response, is the organization of a business men's class, which is to have the use of the grounds from 5:30 to 7:30. Volley ball will be organized, indoor baseball games played and whatever the men wish to do. The evenings will be given over to the enjoyment of boys of Anaheim from 18 and over. It is also hoped that certain days may be avoided for women and girls if a garr director can be secured this will done. By having right supervision the committee feels that a very halfl program can be put on, and if place used as it was intended to be it is hoped to have the place read for activities by June 1st. Prisoners Subscribe for Salvation Army SAN PRANCISCO, May 24—Severe thousand men, silent and attentive listened to a strange sermon in San Quentin prison today. The theme was "A Man May Be Down, But He's Never Out." The expounder of this gospel war Warden James Johnson and not word of the sermon was lost on man who each in himself struggled with this very same problem of whether not a man may be both down and out. Warden Johnson took his text from the doctrine of the Salvation Army and it was this organization and its "Arnunition Week" appeal for funds that inspired the meeting. The responsiveness of the prisoners was indicated in that they subscribe $150 to the campaign at the close of the talk and this amount was imminently duplicated by the prison guard and attaches. San Quentin prison has the honor being the only prison in the United States to have a working corps of Salvationists within the prison. This ban of Salvationists renders sorvices to fellow prisoners in much the same manner as other Salvationists on outside do to society at large. A Want Ad in the Plain Deal will bring results. Blakeley, pastor of the Church of the Lord, delivered an interesting sermon at his home, 511 No. Olive-st., Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock on "The Second Coming of Christ." He pointed out that practically every sign which was given by the Sacred Writers to warn the people of the second coming of our Lord has been fulfilled, and He is likely to come at any moment as a thief in the night. The beast has come and continued his forty and two months (1260 years), with one of his heads being wounded unto death with the deadly wound healed. The falling away spoken of by St. Paul when the doctrines of the Anti-Christ should come in, with lying wonders and deceive if possible the very elect, has come, as has also the generation of people who will "not endure cound doctrine," but will heap unto them teachers having itching ears," lovers of pleasure more than the saviors of God," having a form of Godliness yet denying the power thereof." The second coming of Christ will be brought about by the final rejection of the gospel on Christ in its pureness by the people of the world, he said. He declared there are now 792 per cent of the people who have rejected the gospel in its fullness. The text was, Math. 2430, and Rev. 1:7, with 1 Thess. 177:15; Acts LII. When Christ departed from the Disciples as he went up they gazed into the Heavens. The Angels stood by and said to them: This same Jesus which is taken up into Heaven shall return in like manner as you have seen him go into heaven.
