CHAPMAN SAYS EDITORS SAN HELP CONTROL FERMENT (Continued from first page) America is the land of the poor man he referred to such men as Lincoln, Franklin, many of our senators, and to President Harding himself who was only a poor newspaper bay. But to be useful to a community a man must live the life he should live, and treat his neighbor fair and square in all things. Mrs. J. C. Penney of Long Beach made a few brief remarks in which she complimented Anaheim, and the orange show. She declared she did not believe in personal journalism, but she did believe in going after a man when he was not doing his duty. We should take Jesus of Nazareth as our example, she said; when he saw corruption of the Jews he exposed it, rushing into the temple and chasing out the hypocrites with a leather cord, overturning the tables of the money-changers and the seats of them that sold doves and telling them to their teeth that they were a band of thieves. Newspaper men should take a bold stand against any and all corruptions, she declared. J. M. Matthews of Covina made a short talk, declaring that newspaper men can down an honest man, but that all the power of the press can't make an honest man. The logic was: Newspapers are powerful but they must recognize their limitations. U. L. Chapin of the Calif., Farmer of Los Angeles, also delivered an address stating that the newspapers of SoCal are exceptionally high-classed. He also announced the Citrus Growers Institute at Whittier June 24-25. Malcom A. Fraser announced that the orange show would keep open until Wednesday. The newspapermen and women were the guests of the orange show committee and were taken thru the exposition. Among those present were: Herman Stern; Thos. L. McFadden of Placentia; Vic La Mont; J. E. Stroup; Geo. W. Ross; A. W. Reeves; D.H. A. Johnston; E.B.Camp; Malcom A. Fraser; E.J. Horsley; J.Elishmore; Torrance; J.F. Adams; Santa Ana; Wayne Goble; Orange-co; Antelope Friend...
