HEAT UNITS IN GAS HERE AT STANDARD
The recent ruling of the State Railroad Commission, rescinding the permit granted by that body to two Southern California gas companies to reduce the heating value of the gas from 815 to 76¢ British Thermal Units does not affect the heating value of the local gas. This statement was made public today by J. C. Mayden, district superintendent of the Southern Counties Gas Company in this district.
Last January when the demand for gas in Southern California was far greater than the available supply, the Commission, in order to meet the emergency, ruled that the Los Angeles Gas & Electric Corp. and the Southern California Gas Company, distributors of mixed gas, artificial and natural combined, could reduce the heat units in their gas from 815 to 760 B. T. U.'s. This order, according to Dist. Superintendent Hayden of the local gas office, affected only those two companies and did not in any way affect the heating value of the gas distributed locally by the Southern Counties Gas Company.
The gas distributed in this city and district is a straight natural product; being transmitted by the Southern Counties Gas Co. to this al gas are the Montebello, Coyote Hills, Brea Canyon and Placentia oil fields.
OVEN-BOILED FISH
Prepare the fish and lay it in a pan very well oiled with Snowdrift. Dot quite thoroughly with Snowdrift, place it in a hot oven, from 375 to 400° degrees F., and bake it quickly, allowing about 15 minutes for fish cut in slices an inch thick, and about 25 minutes for a fish weighing a pound and a half, which has been been split. When done, dot with a little additional Snowdrift, let stand for a few minutes to absorb it, and serve with or without lemon, a dusting of minced parsley, or any sauces desired.
PAN-FRIED FISH
This method is generally used for small fish, or fish steaks. The fish, of course, should be cleaned, then dusted with salt and pepper, and rolled in flour, cornmeal, fine cracker crumbs, or fine bread crumbs. Melt enough Snowdrift in a frying pan or skillet to barely cover the bottom, and when hot, lay in the fish, browning it first on one side, then on the other, and allowing from 10 to 15 minutes for the cookery. Serve with sliced lemon or any of the sauces desired.
ENROLL 60 VOICES FOR CHORAL UNION
Orange-co is to have a Choral Union which is to be composed of singers from every part of the county and which will give an opportunity for every bit of vocal talent in the community to be heard. Sixty spells did voices are already enrolled at 20 of them are men, several of whom are well-known professionally.
There is a big scheme back of the movement to bring together a chorus large enough to be worthy of the name and to present ambitious work in a fine way, giving to Orange some of the works which have been heard in this part of the country and uniting the musical force of this rich territory.
There is already a splendid art connoisseur in Orange-co; there is much flame dramatic talent and a wealth of spells did voices.
Membership is being held open for the next two weeks and thus the courtesy of the press an invitation extended to all singers to make aplication for membership. Voices are being tested and meetings are held in the junior high school of Santa Ana every Monday night at 7:39.
Ellis Rhodes, a singer and director of wide experience will be directo tho the chorus will first present light opera it is the plan to do several oratorio and choral works of a fi
and the Southern California Gas Company, distributors of mixed gas, artificial and natural combined, could reduce the heat units in their gas from 815 to 760 B. T. U.'s. This order, according to Dist. Superintendent Hayden of the local gas office, affected only two companies and did not in any way affect the heating value of the gas distributed locally by the Southern Counties Gas Company.
The gas distributed in this city and district is a straight natural product; being transmitted by the Southern Counties Gas Co. to this district through its own transmission lines. The heating value of Southern Counties gas served in this district averages 1050 B. T. U.'s.
The heating value of this gas indicates that the local consumers of Southern Counties gas together with the consumers on the Ventura county system of the Southern Counties Gas Company, receive a gas which has no superior in the state. The consumers of the Southern California Gas Company in San Bernardino and Riverside are served with the same gas as the Pomona consumers, the reason for this being that the Southern Counties wholesales natural gas to the Southern California Gas Company east of Ontario in San Bernardino county.
The sources of supply for the consumers of Southern Counties naturally rolled in flour, cornmeal, fine cracker crumbs, or fine bread crumbs. Melt enough Snowdrift in a frying pan or skillet to barely cover the bottom, and when hot, lay in the fish, browning it first on one side, then on the other, and allowing from 10 to 15 minutes for the cookery. Serve with sliced lemon or any of the sauces desired.
Alice Calhoun will be seen tonight at the New Fairland in "Princess Jones," an entertaining romance. In addition to the picture program there will be four acts of vaudeville from the best circuits.
The dignified dramatic star, H. B. Warner, will be seen in "Felix O'Day" at the Grand.

Snowdrift Shortening
SNOWDRIFT IMPROVES THE FLAVOR OF EVERYTHING COOKED WITH IT.
Make your favorite cake with SNOWDRIFT and see how rich and delicate and good it is.
Fry egg plant in SNOWDRIFT—just for an instance—and see how the flavor of the egg-plant is improved, not lost.
Melt a bit of SNOWDRIFT on a dish of piping hot lima beans or fresh peas and see how much richer they are—and how much their flavor is improved;
SNOWDRIFT improves the flavor of the food cooked with it without adding any flavor of its own. No good cook wants to use a fat that has a strong taste of its own. Cake should be rich and delicate, but not taste of the fat used. Fried food should be rich and crispy and brown, but it should have its OWN flavor—not taste merely of the fat it was fried in.
We carry all the sizes of SNOWDRIFT Shortening—in sealed tins only:
1 lb. 23c, 2 lbs. 43c, 4 lbs. 82c, 8 lbs. $1.60
