MOTORCYCLE SPEED
DEMONS RACE SUN.
The world's professional motor-cycle track champions will be most decisively decided on the Los Angles Speedway Sunday, April 24, when all the noted two-wheeled demon drivers will battle in three races of 50, 30 and 20 miles each.
As the motorbike dare-devils are able to whirl around the speedway at 112 miles an hour and better, the races will furnish the greatest thrills ever given a speed-loving public. The Beverly Speedway is the fastest oval in the world and the speed-machines will endeavor to break all existing records in the three hectic races.
Rivalry between the factories is intense, and the personal competition between the drivers themselves is at white-heat at present. Such racing marvels as Otto Walker, Ray Wellehur, who will pilot Harley-Davidson, Ralph Hepburn and Fred Ludlow, both Los Angeles boys, also on Harleys, Gene Walker and Albury Burns on Idians, and a host of others, will compete for the many rich purses hung up in the various events on Sunday, April 24.
Besides the three professional events, a 10-mile race will be held for the world's amateur championship, and more than 100 speeders will be entered, necessitating five heats and a final. The races are technically amateur but it will be hard to determine the class of the riders who can perch on top of the steeply banked board track while tearing off more than 100 miles per hour. A "battle royal" will ensue in the greatly crowded event.
