TONIGHT WINDS UP
GREAT MOTOR SHOW
SANTA ANA, April 16.—Tonight, then finis for the 1921 Orange-co Auto show, an event or great educational importance, which has been seen and admired by several thousand people during the week.
The closing day opened bright and warm, and everything augured well for a record attendance this afternoon and evening. Today's attendance is expected to make up for the early days of the show, when the weather did not lend encouragement to banner crowds.
Yesterday was a good day, and last night the two big tents were thronged with a large delegation from Huntington Beach which had asked for a special night at the show. Today is Los Angeles day and many Angel City visitors were on hand.
Two popular places during the show have been the auto club booths, the ladies' rest room maintained by the Orange-co club and the information booth operated by the Auto Club of So. Calif.
The schedule calls for closing the show about ten o'clock tonight.

A. L. Lovelace, state organization manager of the California Farm Bureau federation, is in Orange County for a two weeks farm bureau membership drive.
Lovelace will speak at Farm Center meetings and will spend the daytime working in various districts in an effort to aid the efforts started by volunteer workers. There are already 35,000 farm bureau members in California, according to Lovelace, today. More than 15,000 of these have joined since January 1.
One hundred thousand farm bureau members for California by Jan. 1, 1922, is the aim of the state federation. According to this schedule, Lovelace has figured out a quota of 2600 members for Orange county.

Mr. J. C. Dennerlen, sales manager of the Alamite Lubricator Co., of Calif., was in Anaheim today placing advertising which is intended to stimulate interest in the well-known product of his company, especially the Bassick Graphite Penetrating oil now handled by all the garages and accessory stores in Anaheim. This campaign of advertising instituted by the company is intended to assist the local dealers in bringing to the attention of the public the merits of the various products of the company.
Mr. Dennerlen states that the Bassick Graphite Penetrating oil is one of the most wonderful auto spring oils ever produced. It absolutely ripes out the squeaks without taking down the springs. The first of this series of advertising this company's products you will find in today's issue.

BATTERY’S “PEP” IS OFTEN WASTED
What is more irritating to a motorist than to hear a steady ziz-z-z when he steps on the starter button, without hearing the staccato pop-pop of a starting engine?
“There is one thing more annoying,” says West Bros., of the Auto Electric Maintenance Co., Orange-co distributors for Vesta batteries, “and that is to step bn-the button, only to find that the starter will not even turn the motor over.”
In a fix like this the frate motorist generally blames the fagged-out battery. It must be recharged But why go soon?
Oftentimes this condition is simply the result of the driver’s misuse. It is a common fault to press the starting switch and hold it in place indefinitely, while the starter ziz-z-z and the battery wears itself out. Fancy carrying 200 pounds uphill without a stop. “That,” says Mr. West, “is analogous to making the battery turn over the engine for a long period—a useless waste of electrical energy.
“The life of the battery will be greatly prolonged if the motorist will press the button for only a short period, never more than five seconds. If the motor does not start in that time, stop, look and think what has been forgotten. While you think the battery rests.
“Short and frequent attempts are much better for a quick start and a slow discharge of the battery. With such proper use a longer service can be rendered by it. For no
VELIE LEAPS FROM 13TH TO 6TH PLACE
The x-ray Velie is one of the most interesting attractions at the auto show. This special feature was procured by McGraw Brothers, local Velie dealers, for their Velie exhibit only after strenuous effort on their part as it is a brand new idea in the way of an exhibition car.
The x-ray Velie lays bare those portions of the construction of the motor car that are not usually seen outside of the factory itself. It is not a cut-out chassis, but is complete. Yet every detail of the finish, the upholstering, the body construction and the painting is laid open before your eyes more completely than you could see it all should you make a personal visit to the factory.
"A local Velie owner who saw the x-ray Velie upon its arrival here remarked that he could now for the first time understand why his Velie car had stood up under so much hard work for so many years." The care with which the Velie is constructed insures a long life of satisfactory service."
"It is the satisfactory service of the Velie that has enabled it to climb front of the 13th to the 6th place in southern California registrations since January 1. Of the six-cylinder cars in southern California, Velie stood in third place on March 1, according to the official registration list."
GOODYEAR TREBLES
With the largest gallery that ever witnessed a bowling match in Anaheim, local Elks last night furthered the auspicious start made at San Bernardino last week in So. Calif. Elks Bowling tourney when they trimmed Santa Monica Elks two out of three. Totals were: Anaheim 2776, Santa Monica 2748. Every game went over the 900 mark, indicating the fast company that is traveling in this league.
The finale of the City League was bowled last night, Yungbluth’s winning two in three from Holland Electrics. The scores:

P. Varner ... 223 188 153 564
M. Varner ... 146 174 144 464
The life of the battery will be greatly prolonged if the motorist press the button for only a short period, never more than five seconds. If the motor does not start in that time, stop, look and think what has been forgotten. While you think the battery rests.
"Short and frequent attempts are much better for a quick start and a slow discharge of the battery. With such proper use a much longer service can be rendered by it. For no matter how sturdy and well made your battery may be, a little care and the exercise of a little common sense will add months to its active life."
STUDEBAKER LIGHT 6 GOOD AT ANY SPEED
"At all driving speeds up to 55 miles an hour the Light Six Studebaker is free from vibration than any car of its approximate size and weight yet produced in Europe of America," says Harry D. Itiley, local Studebaker dealer.
"The powerful motor contains noteworthy inventions and improvements by Studebaker engineers, and is most efficient in utilizing the low grades of fuel now on the market. The clutch, transmission, axles, gears, brakes, and operating mechanism generally are co-ordinated in design manufactured by one organization and function harmoniously as a complete, well built, reliable auto. Under the heading of Mechanical Features on subsequent pages, detailed explanations of the mechanism and construction of the car are given for the information of persons interested. A car is only as good as its chassis, and therefore buyers lacking mechanical knowledge should seek reliable advice before buying any car."
GOODYEAR TREBLES OUTPUT IN MARCH
One of the best indications that the tire business is rapidly coming back in the west is the action of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., of Calif., Los Angeles, in nearly trebling its output in less than a month.
Vice President and General Manager A. F. Ostlerloh's announcement that production has now advanced to 2000 tires daily, making an increase of 1300 tires a day since March 18, when the daily schedule was 700, is the fourth production increase notice of the month.
The tube output has been increased to 1550 daily, an advance of 214 pct over the low production point of 450 last December.
Increased demand for tires by auto manufacturers and tire dealers is given as the cause for the spurt in Good-year output. A part of the increase is reflected in the demand for tires by the Ford plants at Seattle, San Francisco and Denver.
"We March business totalled $1,000,-000,000 declared the Goodyear manager. This was an increase of $200,000 over February's business. Our April business to date is well ahead of that of April of last year when business conditions were considerably better than they are now.
