BUENA PARK, April 8.—A set of new International Encyclopedia and ready for your use at the library, this encyclopedia is written in very plain language and good print. All articles are written by specialists and passed upon by other specialists, thus representing the collective knowledge of highly trained critical men. The book circulation at the library for March was 682. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Thrasher and Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Shaw meet Friday evening with Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Ittobeson. The main amusement of the evening was cards. Mrs. James Macklin is in the Fullerton hospital where an operation for appendicitis was performed Wednesday. Mr. H. S. Horn left Friday for Yuma, Ariz., on a business trip. Mrs. J. W. Blahop and children, James Jr., and Pauline, spent several days last week at Elsinore with Mr. and Mrs. Fred Klarel. Hobby and Daily Shaw returned on Thursday after a week on the ranch of Lieftunie in San Bernardino. Eastern Star danger at the Masonle Temple on Tuesday evening. Come out and have a good time. Miss Grace Macklin spent the past week with her aunt, Mrs McClintie at Eagle Rock City. Ladies' Aid of the Congregational church will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 in the church parlor. All ladies are invited. The construction of the new church building will begin Friday. GARDEN GROVE, April 8.—George Tyler is taking out seven acres of four-year-old lemon trees on his place and is going to set it to valencia. Mrs. Elizabeth Fairchilds has finished setting out six acres of valencia and is installing a new water system. Her place is surely showing the aspects of good management. Hugh Tyler has rented part of Mrs. Elizabeth Fairchild's place and is planting it to popcorn. Garden Grove is planning to have the Redlands Glee club here within the next three weeks. The date and where the entertainment is to be held will be announced later. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Dosier and family entertained Mr. and Mrs. Ray Dozier and three sons of Puente at a birthday dinner Sunday in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Dozier's son, Donald, who celebrated his ninth birthday. Mrs. E. E. Beardley is able to up and around again, after a two-weeks' illness. Miss Muriel Arkley spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Arkley. Mrs. R. W. Elliott spent the weekend visiting friends in Los Angeles. Mr. and Mrs. Gen Kidd and two children spent the week-end at Laguna Beach. Albert Smith of Anaheim is visiting his brother Ed Freeman and wife this week. Warren A. Wheeler and two chil-dren are visiting Mr. Wheeler's father at Santa Barbara this week. Mrs. Jennie Graham and son Lewis are spending this week with relatives at Long Beach. Mr. and Mrs. Hickman of Whittler are staying at the W. A. Whealer home this week in Mr. Wheeler's absence. Mr. Hickman has accepted a position as meat cutter in the Sam Hill store in Santa Ana. SELL MORE THRIET STAMPS WASHINGTON, April 8—Sales of thrift stamps and savings certificates which had been declining from month to month during 1920, have shown substantial improvement since the 1921 series were offered in January. It was announced yesterday. Sales during January totaled $2,646,000, as compared with the low-water mark reached in September 1920 of $1,815,000. During February, the latest month for which figures are available, there was continued improvement. The total reached $3,324,000—night $6,000,000 for the two months. PRESENT COMMUNITY PLAY PASADENA, April 8—Special—"Peter," winner of the recent Drama League play contest, will be produced by the Pasadena Community Players, Thursday night, April 14th. It is a comedy of present-day American life by Marian Wightman. Montague Glass, the well-known author and one of the judges, says it has the car-marks of a "Broadway success." In all, 56 plays were submitted. They came from all parts of California. The Drama League is leaving no stone unturned to make this the biggest success of the year in the Pasadena Community Playhouse. Delegations are coming from many nearby points, representing the leading clubs and literary circles. There will be eleven performances of "Peter." Gilmore Brown has charge of the production and he has selected the best cast possible from the thousand members of the Pasadena Community Playhouse Assn, which is a non-profit organization in which all workers contribute their services. It is 26 1-2 feet long, 11 1-2 feet high and has a loading space of 835 cubic feet. Unloaded it weighs 11-050 pounds. A SPANISH DREAM The dancing of Julia Ruiz is the sensation of the hour in So. Calif. Straight from Old Madrid, where she was trained to dance from the fifth year of her age in the famous school of the Casteleans, and now JAPANESE OIL MEN ON INSPECTION TOUR BREA, April 8.—Five Japanese officers of the H. T. K. steamship line were guests of the Union Oil Co., on a tour of inspection of the local field. They came from San Francisco on special business for their company to watch the methods employed in producing and operating oil wells. The Japanese have prospects of oil in their own country, and are desirous of using American methods and machinery. This steamship company has a subsidiary company operating in the fields of Japan. They were greatly interested in the "Peg Model" at the Brea office. They also visited the Montebello and Richfield districts. While here, Mr. M. Murray of the Los Angeles office was their host and guide. only 18 years old, Julia Ruiz is creating a daily sensation.. "It has been my dream to have the greatest living actor in the Mission Play," says John Steven McGronarty, the author, and I have him in Fredrick Warde. It has also been my dream to have the greatest living Spanish dancer in the Mission Play; and I have her in Julia Ruiz. There is no dancer anywhere to near compare with her.
