PLACENTIA PLANNING SERVICE ON EASTER PLACENTIA, March 15. At a committee meeting at the home of Mrs. John Scott, the matter of a sitio for the Easter Sunrise Service was decided and other arrangements made. The grounds committee decided on the Tayles property near the Santa Fe station which overlooks Placentia and the surrounding valley. Both Mrs. Tayles and Mr. Porter have assured the committee that they are more than willing that their property may be used for that purpose. One of the sub committees of this committee will be the flower committee and they will do the decorating of the cross and of the grounds. An effort is being made to have the cross made from a large tree and if this cannot be secured one of heavy lumber will be made. The speaker for the early morning service will be Dr. Hugh K. Walker, a noted divine and splendid speaker of Los Angeles. The Philharmonic Society, a musical organization which flourished here formerly but which ceased operations during the war, has been revived and will have charge of the musical end of the program under the leadership of Miss Howarton of the local schools. This organization will hold its first rehearsal Friday evening at the home of Mrs. Scott and anyone willing to help in this line of the work is urged to attend whether they are members of this organization or not. The different committees appointed by the general secretary, Mrs. Scott, are as follows: Grounds Committee—Mrs. Percy Bradford, chairman, Mr. and Mrs. John Tuffree, Mr. and Mrs. Pierotil, Mr. and Mrs. Bowen, Mr. and Mrs. A. The ladies' Social Circle will meet at the home of Mrs. Krick next Friday, March 18th. Mrs. J. D. Rouse is down from Summit this week visiting friends here in Placentia. Mr. A. C. Johnson recently sold his tonsorial parlor in the Cline & Newnes pool hall to Mr. Keiffer of Anaheim. Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Finseth received the sad news this week of the death of Mrs. Finseth's brother in Arizona a few days ago. The body of Mr. Dale Zumkalt was brought to the home of his and Mrs. Finseth's parents in Fullerton, from where the funeral services were held on Thursday morning. Mrs. Beryl Adamli pulled off a successful birthday surprise on her husband on Wednesday afternoon in their apartment over the Courier office, the occasion being his birthday. The young man was asked to make himself scarce during the afternoon while the wife was making him a birthday cake, and when he returned at supper time the guests were all present and waiting for him. The rooms were tastily decorated in red and white and a delightful dinner was served. The Life Work Recruits of Orange county met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Fuller on Bradford avenue Saturday night. THE ORANGE COUNTY PLAIN DEALER, ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA business session was held and dainty refreshments were served by the hostess. R. R. Calendar received word of the death Tuesday of Frank H. Kredel, a very near friend, at Santa Ana. The two families formerly lived in Springfield, Ohio. Mrs. W. L. Rideout and Mrs. Olive Snell spent the day Saturday shopping in Los Angeles. On the way home they were delayed two hours by an accident on the electric line. Francis Jones, son of Harry C. Jones, and a student at the Placentia Union Grammar School, fell from the acting bar at the school Tuesday and suffered a fracture of an arm. The picnic for all persons who ever lived in Michigan will be held in Sycamore Grove Park, in Los Angeles, all day, Saturday March 19, 1921. All Michiganders are invited and urged to attend. The Gibbs Lumber Co. is erecting another building on their property in Placentia, which will be used for the storage of cement. The steady increase in business demands that this firm keep additional equipment and facilities for handling the business and the firm intends to keep pace with the times. The awning on the front of the dry cleaning establishment had to be taken down Sunday afternoon because the iron frame work threatened to break the windows. The canvas was pretty nearly done for any way and the slight wind that was blowing caused the little damage that was done and threatened more. Through some misunderstanding the invitations for quite a number of Placentia people to the launching of the good ship La Placentia went astray last week and came near not getting to them in time for their making arrangements to attend. The envelopes were addressed to R. F. D. No. 2 at Fullerton and it was necessary to make a trip to the postoffice there to get them forwarded to the postoffice here. Barnes In Personal Control of Animals The subjugation and education of wild animals continues to be one profession that is not overcrowded, and there is always room at the top for those who qualify, according to reports from the Al. G. Barnes four-running wild animal circus, coming to Anaheim on March 16th; and a man or woman that will face 20 or 30 lions or tigers commands even a larger salary than the average one facing a movie camera. When Barnes first noticed the peculiar power he had over wild animals, there were plenty of so-called trainers who entered a cage with one lion or tiger, armed with a miniature machine gun and a prodpole made the animal jump, and the 'act' was over. But now, how different; in the Barnes arenas we see pretty girls dancing with the most savage beasts, apparently unmindful of danger, but in reality, carefully watching for the gleam of warning in the animal's eye that precedes every aggressive movement, much the same as a rattler warns before striking; however, these girl trainers, under the watchful eye of Barnes, have made their pupils comparatively docile; one of these girls, Mabel Starke, having trained Rajah, a monster Bengal tiger, to do a wrestling act with her, and within the steel barred enclosure with Mabel and Rajah are 19 tigers that do remarkable things. Barnes himself is personally in control at every performance; he has made a life study of the various jungle beasts, has caught them in their African and Asiatic liaisons, and is reputed to be the greatest living exponent of wild animal life, hence his wonderful success with the circus which bears his name.
