CHAMBER DISCUSSES PLANS FOR SCHOOL
GARDEN GROVE. March 14—The Garden Grove C. of C. will hold its regular monthly meeting in the Price building Monday evening, March 14, at 7:30 o'clock. The regular business meeting will be held and music will be performed by the male quartet.
Discussions as to the advisability of forming a high school district and other important matters will be taken up.
Revelation meetings are being held in the Garden Grove Free Methodist church, Rev. H. Hanson, the happy Norwegian evangelist of Texas, will preach a full gospel in the Free Methodist church each evening. The meetings will continue all next week.
A number of friends gathered to surprise Miss Geckl Umphress last Wednesday evening, the occasion being her birthday. The evening was pleasantly passed with games and victoria music. Miss Umphress received a number of birthday gifts. At a late hour refreshments of ice cream and cake were served.
Mrs. Arthur Schnifter entertained the members of the Home Missionary society at her home, one mile north on Euclid avenue, Wednesday afternoon.
This was the regular monthly meeting of the society and the usual business session was held, followed by a missionary program. The remainder of the afternoon was spent in sewing quilt blocks.
The Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co. have placed new awnings over the two front windows at the local office on Euclid avenue.
The Tuesday Afternoon Club held their regular meeting at the home of Mrs. R. M. Fay last Tuesday afternoon.
Hobart Estey of Waukegen, Ill., visited at the W. R. Aldrich home on Ocean avenue, Wednesday and Thursday. Mr. Estey is a cousin of Mrs. Dorn.
Mrs. Dupuy of Pasadena, is spending several days this week with her daughter, Mrs. O. H. Fulwider and family.
H. B. Allen, district traffic chief from Riverside, was a visitor at the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Co. office Thursday.
William Morrill was a Los Angeles visitor Monday.
Self-Governed Body Formed at Katella
KATELLA. March 14—Tuesday morning, at the 9:30 assembly the pupils of Katella school formed a self-governing student body organization and elected the following pupils as their executive officers:
President, Katherine Carner; vice president, Lewis Ebbert; secretary and treasurer, Helen Snow; captain of playground, Victor Wiley; captain of yard, Beulah Routledge; captain of building, -Eva Wilbern; executive advisor, Mrs. Stella Valle; athletic advisor, Miss Irene Jacques.
During the lunch hour on Monday the primary classes of Katella school under the supervision of Miss Knapp held a candy and popcorn sale in their class room. In a very short time the delicious home-made candies and hot-buttered popcorn had disappeared leaving a little over $7.00 in the treasury.
During the February and March meetings of the P.-T. A. the fourth, fifth and six grades have sold refreshments, netting their room nearly $20.
In this way the children of Katella are endeavoring to do their part in helping the ladies of the P.-T. A. purchase the furnishings for the school.
The older girls and boys are preparing needlework and handicraft articles to be on sale during the outdoor festival planned for the last of May.

GARDEN GROVE, March 14—Mr. and Mrs. H. Bakenhus and baby and Mrs. M. Maas, of Covina, spent Sunday with Mr. Bakenhus' parents, H. Bakenhus, and family.
Miss Ruth Violett spent the week-end with her parents, Dr. and Mrs. C. C. Violett. Sunday afternoon a number of college friends from Redlands were entertained at the Violett home.
Crane returned Monday days' visit with relaBeh.

YORBA LINDA, March 14. Special—Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Conley and Mrs. Ed Taylor were called to San Pedro Thursday by the serious illness of Mrs. Conley's mother, Mrs. Handy. She had suffered a stroke of paralysis and is not expected to live. She is 73 and this is the third stroke she has suffered. Mrs. Taylor returned home Friday and as yet has received no word of any change in her grandmother's condition.
Mrs. Hennessy has been entertaining her sister, Mrs. Schriber, who came from the east several days ago. Mrs. Schriber may remain for several months.
Mr. Wm. Faessel had the misfortune to have his overcoat stolen from an automobile while in Los Angeles the first of the week. He says it would not have been so bad but that he was looking out of an upstairs window at the auto and saw the thief come up, put on the coat, button it up and walk away and he was powerless to stop him. By the time he arrived at the car the man was no where to be seen.
Mr. and Mrs. James A. Small are entertaining Mrs. D. Barry and daughter, Georgia, of Boston, Mass, this week.
Mrs. Jaffry is home again after a several weeks' visit in the east and in Canada.
Mr. E. L. Gilman and Mr. Shaw attended a meeting of M. O. D. managers held at Ontario Wednesday even.

OLIVE, March 14.-An enjoyable dancing party was given Wednesday evening at the Olive hall by the Olive club and Ladies' Circle. Fellinge's orchestra of five pieces furnished the music.
A splendid time was enjoyed by those present and it was decided that another dance to the same crowd and their friends would be given Wednesday evening, March 30.
Quite a number, holding invitations to this initial dance, were prevented from attending, for various reasons, but it was decided that those same invitations to the holders and their friends would be accepted for the dance on March 30, or any of the succeeding dances that might be given by the club.
