News of Fullerton BOY SCOUT PRIZES PRESENTED BY HEIDT A large audience of seniors and juniors heard Elmer E. Heldt, chief executive of the Boy Scouts of Orange-co, discuss plans and purposes of the organization at the Presbyterian church Sunday night. He said in part: "At the age of 12 a boy's nature demands a club or gang and he is not particular whether that gang be good or bad. He is not as much interested in the virtue or lack of virtue of the gang as he is in the gang itself. The Boy Scout organization takes the boy at the age of 12 and endeavors to lead him through the dangerous perfed and present him to the community a clean, useful, trustworthy, obedient and reverent citizen. In this it does not always succeed, but no boy will be the worse for having the influence of the Boy Scouts thrown around his life." He presented individual prizes for the recent track meet to Alva Johnson, winner of first place in the 75-yard dash and also in the running broad jump. Douglas Davis, second in the 60-yard dash. Louis Ferguson, first in the fire building contest. John Wentz, first in the pie cutting contest. The silver loving cup, a troop trophy, was not presented on account of it being in the engraver's possession. The two prizes for the relay race and the first aid, given by the C. of C. of Anaheim, were not available but will be presented to the troop at a later time. Would Limit Truck Loads to 12,000 Pounds With the adoption of resolutions declaring that Orange county's system of paved highways is being ruined by overloading of trucks, the Santa Ana Realty board today was on record as favoring action by supervisors in giving emergency relief for the situation by the passage of an ordinance limiting the extreme weight to 12,000 pounds and requiring that each truck entering the county carry a certificate giving the weight of its load. The resolution was introduced by Linn L. Shaw and was passed, after brief discussions in which the necessity for immediate action was emphasized. The county now has an ordinance limiting maximum loads to 23,400 pounds for four wheel vehicles and 20,000 for equipment with six wheels. "We owe it to ourselves to protect our county roads," said Shaw in offering the resolutions. "We are providing roadways for men engaged in commercial trucking and we should establish a limit as to loads Instead." Goddell had been released from the county jail after serving 30 days on a vargancy charge, Goddell escaped being held for military authorities on a charge of deserting from the army, according to Deputy Sheriff Charica Holbrook today. Forty-eight hours later, Goddell, who was booked at the jail as John Burdick, was released here. Holbrook received word from Washington that a comparison of fingerprints had shown that the prisoner was wanted on a charge of desertion. Had the letter been received two days sooner Goddell would have been turned over to army authorities. Holbrook said that frequently when he prepares to take fingerprints of man held at the county jail, he owes it to ourselves to protect our county roads," said Shaw in offering the resolutions. "We are providing roadways for men engaged in commercial trucking and we should establish a limit as to loads Instead of carrying an overload on some truck they can be made to distribute it over a truckand trailer, with far less damage to our highways." 200,000 PACKING CO. There was a poor little boy in the neighborhood, and after I had been to Sunday school one day and listened to a stirring talk on the beauties of charity I was softened enough to give them to him. Then I wanted them back, and cried, but mother said, 'Don't cry, Bertie, some day you will get your wooden soldiers back.'"
