BREA CANYON WILL DRILL THREE-INCH
The Brea Canyon Oil Co.'s deep test well at Brea is getting down to the "macaroni." At 3830 it has been found necessary to run in a string of three inch casing to continue the drilling. A recent blow out at 3800 caused the loss of the 4 inch string. Redrilling at No. 33 is making progress at 1550 and No. 2-A is redrilling at 1150.
The Columbia Oil Co.'s Menchego No. 1 still remains unchanged as its formation outlook. At 3225 the fine sand struck at 3000 still runs unbroken, and the showing of oil has not increased materially. Menchego No. 2 is making a water test at 5100 feet. At Pico No. 3 1535 feet of hole has been made, and No. 4 is drilling at 600 feet.
The General Petroleum Co. has completed and put on production Tonner No. 10, a 350 barrel well. Drilled to 3071 feet. No. 10 is the second deepest well of the Tonner group and producing 27 gravity oil from sand or water. Tonner No. 5 is redrilling at 2850 and No. 6 is redrilling at 2625 and will be making new hole in a fe wdays.
The Union Oil Co.'s Stearns No. 64, one of the shallow wells drilling on the Union's lease in Brea Canyon, is showing up very strong at 2100 feet and looks like another big gusher for the old field. The collapsed string of casing in the Union's No. 61 has been straightened out and the well is back on the pump making 225 barrels. Drilling has started on No. 65, a new well, and the rig is being built for Nos. 75 and 82.
The development operations of the Fullerton Oil Co. now includes three wells in the Brea field. No. 6 is in hard sand at 2975. No. 14 is at 825 ft. in hard shale, and No. 16 is drilling in shale and sand at 3000 feet.
Drilling with cable tools driven by electric motor the La Habra Midway is making steady progress wild cutting north of La Habra, at 330 the formation is tough shale. A fifteen inch hole is being drilled.
At Olinda No. 1 the National Exploration lost a bit in the hole at 1350, and the mishap has held up the drilling somewhat for a number of days. At Chino No. 1 drilling has passed the 1000 foot mark.
The Petroleum Development Co. (Santa Fe) is drilling what might be called a wild cat well in the old Olinda field. At No. 88 a deep test hole is being drilled. At 3825, the present depth, the test well is showing a sandy shale that is carrying some gas and oil. No. 92 is making some gas and oil. No. 93 as 1785. No. 94 shows 1700 feet in hard sand.
The West Coast Oil Co. is about to complete and put on production No. 49 drilling in the oil sand at 2600 and No. 77 drilling in the oil sand at 3050 feet. Both wells are showing up very strong.
