PLANS AUTO TO BE WORTHY OF NAME Believing Abraham Lincoln to have been the greatest man who ever lived, Henry M. Leland developed the Lincoln automobile along lines that he believed would make it the best car in its class ever built, according to the statement of H. H. Kelly, who has taken the county agency for the Lincoln, with sales rooms in Santa Ana. According to the same authority, Leland has assembled furniture used by Lincoln and has fitted up a room at the Lincoln factory which he maintains as a "Lincoln room." "Soon after the signing of the armistice, the factory completed its contract for the manufacture of 17,000 Liberty motors," said Kelly today. "Following that, Leland employed 500 engineers and mechanics under contract to develop a machine that he could give his approval to. His word to the force was to bring out a car that he would approve or disapprove. "The 500 men were placed behind closed doors and they worked for eighteen months in experimenting. They made up several cars before Leland finally gave his approval to the machine that is on the market today. "The workmen lived at the factory and were not permitted to go outside, for fear that some of the trade secrets of the developing features might leak out. Their incoming mail even was censored to prevent anything going out that might give someone an insight as to what was doing in the factory. "The men lived within the factory grounds, the management providing them with every-home comfort, and amusement possible. "The emblem on the car is an exact duplicate of the handle of the drawers in the desk Lincoln used when he was in the white house. The ornamental work on the headlamps is an exact duplicate of the carving on the legs of that desk." CRAVATH WILL GIVE BLAEHOLDER TRYOUT Harry Blaholder, young pitcher of Garden Grove, and declared by Clare Head and Anson Mott, former professional ball players to have as much natural twirling ability as had Walter Johnson when Johnson was an amateur in this county, will be given a try-out by Gavvy Cravath, manager of Salt Lake, it was learned today. Head and Mott have been taking time off from their ranching activities at Garden Grove to coach Blaholder, in some of the finer points of the heaving art. Both are emphatic in declaring that Blaholder has a world of smoke on the ball. A contract between Cravath and Blaholder has not yet been signed, but will be soon, it was stated. Head led the Inter-mountain league in batting in 1909. Mott played third base with the Seattle and Vernon clubs of the Coast league. Both retired from professional ball some years ago. ANAHEIM WILL MEET H. B. HERE FRIDAY The Anaheim high school first basketball team will play the Huntington Beach team here Friday afternoon.
