YOUTHS BEFORE COX AS BANDIT SUSPECTS
Charged with attempting to hold up Charles P.Jesse and W.B.Carr at the corner of Tenth and Spurgeon-sts,Santa Ana, about midnight Thursday night, Carl Duke, 16,and Charles T.Miller, 19, were arraigned before Justice of the Peace Cox.
Duke was certified to the juvenile court and Miller, whose case was set for hearing Feb. 11 at 10 a.m., is being held in the county jail in default of $2000 ball.Duke will be held in the detention home.

JUDGE WILL VISIT FENCE, DECIDE SUIT
In order to get a better understanding of the lay of the land so that he may decide the issue involved in a suit growing out of a row over a fence Superior Judge West has announced that he will visit the property involved.
The suit was brought by J. Roy Smith and his wife, Grace L. Smith against the Rock Springs Land and Cattle Co. to compel the defendant company to remove a fence which, the Smiths claim, forms a dam and causes high water to damage their property.
Trial of the suit dragged along for three days. Several witnesses, including a number of property owners and surveyors, were heard. A number of maps were introduced and various deductions drawn up. Final evidence was submitted and Judge West took the case under advisement.
Testimony was brot out to show that the property of the Smiths adjoins that of the Rock Springs Land and Cattle Co. and that the Smith property is lower. Between the two properties there is small creek.
The Smiths claim that the creek rises very rapidly after a hard rain and that the fence acts as a dam. As a result, they say, debris collects and the water cut into the banks of their property.
COX "BURNS UP" 2 ALLEGED VAGRANTS
Justice of the Peace Cox sentenceed two alleged vagrants, B. T. Woods and C. O. Foster, to a term of 30 days in the county jail and told them he hoped that when they got out they would never forget that they had been in Orange-co.
Both asked Justice Cox to suspend the sentence and declared they would lose no time in getting to work. They admitted they had been wandering about from place to place with no lawful means of support.
“You fellows ought to go to jail,” said Cox. “Why should I give you a suspended sentence? The streets are full of idlers now and it is getting so it is not safe for a man to be out after dark. You fellows won't keep money when you get it, you blow it in on first one thing and then another and then look about for more easy money. The judgment of this court is that both of you spend 30 days in the county jail and after you are out I hope you never forget that you were in Orange-co.”
