S.O. WELL AT H.B. GUSHING 500 BBLS. (Huntington Beach Field.) The well designated as B-1, drilled by the Standard in the alfalfa field south of Reservoir hill, which gushed in last week, spouting oil of 21 gravity per day, was rather slow in cleaning itself of mud and water, but there was a heavy stream from the star and apparently good gas pressure. However, the gas pressure failed to come up to expectations, and the flow became intermittent, with a lapse of about 50 minutes between heads, the flow lasting from 10 to 12 minutes. The well is now producing approximately 500 barrels. The cement has been drilled rom A-5, and there is every indication that it will be a good well. A-4 and A-6 are still cemented, and A-7 will soon be ready to set casing. The well is now about 1600 feet deep. A-7 is an offset well to the famous Bolsa Chica gusher, being on the property of the Huntington Beach Co., about 400 feet southeast of Bolsa No. 1. A-3 is also cemented. The work of rigging up at A-X is in progress. This rig is southwest of Bolsa No. 1, and work is going ahead on the rig of C-1, west of Bolsa No. 1, on a small lease on land owned by the Huntington Beach Co. The derrick has been completed at Bolsa No. 3. Drilling is progressing rapidly at Bolsa No. 2, there being about 100 feet of hole. The work of redrilling Bolsa No. 1 is being done with rotary tools this week. Some material has been delivered at Twenty-third and Edgeware streets for No. 1, on D lease, Huntington Beach Co. The goof will soon sound at No. 1 Jones community, southeast of Bolsa No. 1, as the matter of rigging is almost complete. But little has been done at the Surf well on the lowlands east of the city limits, since last report, as the condition of the roads have prevented the delivery of fuel oil, but the success of this well is now assured. The Standard Oil Co. is making preparations to lay a pipe line to this well. The Surf is about 2550 feet deep. The deep well, Torrance No. 1, has drilled but little hole since last week. The string of 8-inch casing will probably soon be set, as it is doubtful if the company will care to carry this well very much deeper without protecting it with casing. The depth is approximately 2500 feet. The Standard Oil Co. has completed a water tank west of Reservoir hill of 10,000 barrels capacity, to insure an adequate supply of water to the various wells of the field. The cement was drilled from the well on Main-street across from the high school, and some sand which had heaved up into the casing was drilled out. There was a magnificent showing of both oil and gas, apparently assuring a big well, providing the sand is the usual depth at this location. Permission was granted to set some 8-inch casing before testing for water. The well on the J. B. Dabney lease is still cemented. There is nothing of interest to report at the site of the well on the John A. Baxter lease, to be drilled by this company. There is more grief in Hard Luck Row, this week, and the trouble is again with the wall of the Texcal Oil Defining Co., on the Burks lease, north of Reservoir hill, where a twist-off occurred, leaving a string of tools in the hole, with the exception of about 50 feet. The well was about ready to be cemented, and about 2750 feet deep, so that the accident is an unfortunate one. The formation in this vicinity of this well appeared to be very treacherous and this break may have been occasioned by another cave-in, as it occurred below where the 15-1-2 inch casing extends. The offset wells, north and south, have each experienced difficulties something similar, consequently this run of trouble cannot be attributed to any neglect on the part of those in charge of the work at the three wells. After being hung up for a week on account of tools sticking in the hole through a cave in, the work of sidetracking the lost tools started at 1880 feet. Before the trouble the hole was 2861 feet deep, and the work of setting casing would have started in a few hours had nothing happened. The work of drilling out the cement in the well on the Shoemaker community, at Hampshire and Indianapolis, did not start Monday as intended on account of the trouble at the Texcal well, as the same contractor is drilling both wells. However, preparations are being made, and before next report it will be known whether conglomerate. That at 3230 feet. Progress formation, which is boulders, sand and silt. However, preparations are being made, and before next report it will be known whether the water has been shut off or not. The cement will be drilled out Saturday. The condition at the rig being erected on the L.E.VanWinkle lease, northeast of the La Bolsa tile factory, remains about the same. There has been some progress on the rig being built on the C.J.Porter community, at Main and Summit, during the past week. The string of tools which stuck in well No. 1, north of Reservoir hill, was cut at 966, and was again cut at 1100 feet. Well No.2, south of the hill, was going at 1970 feet Thursday morning. There has been strong gas pressure in this well for some time, and on some out. Unless the sands are deeper at trol it, but it now looks as though the well will be completed without a blow out. Unless the sandsa re deeper at this point than at the other wells on the south, the oil sands may be found at any time. The job of recovering the broken bit lost in the well on the Fowler lease, east of Bolsa No. 1, was abandoned, and the bit sidetracked, and the hole was 1355 feet deep Thursday morning. This well is being drilled on contract. Well No. 1, Ashton community, northwest of Standard A-3, was in blue shale Thursday morning, at 1425 feet. There is nothing new to report about the new rig being built on the Chas. Dixon lease on the Bolsa Chica dome. Well No. J. McFarland lease, Bolsa Chica dome, is now more than 2600 feet deep, with about the same indications as last report. There is good news for those who have been so vitally interested in the Newland well, being drilled by the Union Oil Co., as it was looking very encouraging Thursday morning, at about 3750 feet. The formation was the same brown shale that has continued for more than 100 feet, with some gas and a trace of oil. About 300 feet of this shale was drilled thru in the Surf well. The indications Thursday morning were that the Newland well will develop into a commercial success. The well on the Dillinge community, southeast of Bolaa No. 1, was about 1700 feet deep Thursday morning. If the sands are found at the same depth as in the big gurser, this well will be ready to cement in another week. The Union Oil Co. has leased the land owned by R. Courreges and sons, Josephn and John, about 1 1-2 miles northeast of the Newland well. The lease covers 80 acres, and the bonus paid was $125 per acre for three months, and a rental of $5 per acre per month thereafter for nine months.
