CITY USED TO PUT PREMIUM ON BATH With the recent changes by the city council in the water rates, attention is called to the fact that Anaheim paid considerably more for H2O back in the good old days when the Mother Colony was surrounded by vineyards and there were some living like 40 wineries here. At one time, port wine sold for nine and ten cents a gallon, say oldtimers, so the following high rates for water, as included in the "charter and ordinances of the town of Anaheim, 1883," were not unbearable: ORDINANCE No. XVII. An Ordinance establishing Water Rates in the Town of Anaheim. The Trustees of the Town of Anaheim do ordain as follows: Section 1—The water rate and charges for water from the Town Water Works from June 6th, A.D. 1883, shall be as follows: For tenements occupied by a single family of nons, $2 per month. TO SAN DIEGO TRUCK LINE ROBBED Harry N. Blair, who gives his occupation as "traffic specialist," in a complaint filed with the railroad commission declares that the methods of operation followed by the Truck Owners and Shippers, Inc., operating between San Diego and Los Angeles, constitute a menace to the state, and he urges the commission to take steps to put a stop to its practices. Blair declares that the company is not a mutual or co-operative enterprise and that its associate shipping membership fee is but a subterfuge; that the company is a device reserved to for the purpose of avoiding regulation by the commission as a common carrier and that while, according to its by-laws, it operates without a profit, in reality it reaps profits which are "paid regularly to individuals as an inducement to them to buy trucks which have beenqr at profit sold by party or parties who have been or are active members of the Truck Owners and Shippers, Inc." Blair also claims that the Haydis Truck line is a party to the plan. MANY OBTAIN TAGS THRU AUTO CLUB The members of the Auto Club of So.
