Society: Clubs : Lodges : Churches KIRSOHES GIVE HOUSEWARMING Mr. and Mrs. John Kirsch, Jr., were host and hostess Monday evening in their new home west of Anheim. The affair was rather in the fashion of a house warming, for Mr. and Mrs. Kirsch have just completed the building of a new bungalow on their ten-acre fruit ranch and this was the first invitation issued to their friends to enjoy their hospitality under the new roof. A very enjoyable evening was spent in playing progressive whist after which the hostess served daunting refreshments. The first prize among the ladies was won by Mrs. Joe Heinz and the consolation was awarded to Mrs. Steafatker. The first prize among the gentlemen was won by Ben Heinz and the consolation was passed over to John Kirsch, Sr. Those who enjoyed the evening with Mr. and Mrs. Kirsch were Mrs. Saxe, Mrs. Steafatker, Mr. and Mrs. Tubach, Mr. and Mrs. Nellison, Mr.'s and Mrs. B. Heinz, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Heinz, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. M. Heinz and Mr. and Mrs. John Kirsch, Sr. THIMBLE CLUB MEETS FRIDAY The Lois Thimble club will meet this week on Friday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Rose Van Horn, 312 N. Lemon-st. The guests will arrive at two o'clock for the afternoon's pleasure. LADIES' AID MEETS THURSDAY The Ladies Aid Society of the Presbyterian church will meet tomorrow at 2:30 in the church parlors. With Standard A-3,A-4,A-5,A-6 & State Consolidated all standing cemented—with Miley & Keck drilling through the cement, and with Vista Del Mar preparing to drill through — favorable results at Huntington Beach should occur very shortly. The bringing in of these wells will affect Republic's five leases in this field. 2760 feet is the present depth of Republic's Well No. 1, which will probably be cemented off during the next few days. Republic Petroleum stock is a substantial dividend-paying security, backed by 1020 acres of PRODUCING oil land, and 31 producing wells. Any considerable increase in the corporation's present production of a quarter million barrels annually, will increase the price of Republic Petroleum on the Exchange. The speculative opportunity thus afforded by the Huntington Beach operation is amply safeguarded by Republic Petroleum's assured earnings and profits. Lemon-st, were happily surprised last evening when twenty or more of their friends gathered at their pretty home, which has just been completed, and tendered them a jolly house warming. Mrs. Tausch was presented with several beautiful bouquets and three beautiful panel pictures of Yosemite Valley scenes which will find a very prominent place in the new home. After greetings were exchanged, all gathered around the card tables where Five hundred was enjoyed, the prizes going to Mrs. Al Erickson, Mrs. Loule Kroeger, Mrs. Getch, Messch, A. Vail, L. Bortz and Frank Tausch. At a late hour a delicious tamale supper was served, the tamales being home made and brot by the guests. F. banquet hall following the regular meeting of the Odd Fellows and the practice of the drill team of the Rebekah lodge. The affair was in the nature of a surprise party given in honor of two of their members, Mr. and Mrs. Frank S. Gates, formerly Mrs. M. Schumacher, who were married in San Bernardino last Wednesday. As the bride entered the hall, Miss Frances Schumacher started "Here Comes the Bride" on the piano. A grand march was then started with the bride and groom leading, Mrs. Gates carrying a large bouquet which had been presented by the ladies. The remainder of the evening was spent in a social way, and later re- CHARMING DINNER PARTY A very charming affair of Monday evening was the dinner party given by Miss Thelma Hugo at her home on S., Palm-st. Lillies and ferns formed the beautiful table decorations, while dainty place cards marked covers for the guests. Following the dinner, dancing was enjoyed until a late hour. The guests included Misses Katherine and Petra Haurte, Helen and Elizabeth Stoffel, Cora, Stoffel, Messrs. Bill Fort of Los Angeles, Judson Blakeley, Herbert Fale, Bob Hilliard, Jack Bitterley of Pasadena, Earl Roscoe of Hollywood. On departing the guests declared Miss Hugo a most delightful hostess. "MERRY FEW" ENTERTAINED The "Merry Few" was delightfully entertained Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. E. Voss Herrington, W. Sycamore-st. During the early part of the afternoon the ladies busied themselves with needlework and social chat. Just before refreshments were served, Mrs. Herrington came into the living room with her arms full of prettily wrapped packages which she deposited in front of Miss Edythe Pember, a bride-elect of Feb. 10th. Miss Pember was greatly surprised, and as greatly pleased with the delightful courtey. The packages when opened were found to contain many pretty little gifts. Those present were Meadames Flavel Smith, R. E. Campbell, Roger Sherman, Thelma Wilson, Norbert Anderson, Gus Prescott, Edgar Black, E. Voss Herrington, Misses Edythe, Esther and Valle Pember and Blanche Higson. AL-FUN CLUB MEETS The Al-Fun club was delightfully entertained yesterday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Merton Skinner, W. Chartres-st. Beautiful bonquets of pink carnations were attractively used for decorations. Following the game of Five Hundred, the prize for highest score was awarded to Mrs. Leonard Evans. Late in the afternoon the hostess served a dainty two-course luncheon. The guests included Mesdames O. A. Mullinix, Fred Marsh; Leonard Evans, William Locke, M. C. Goff, Sam Newnes, J. Hessell of Los Angeles, Fred Marsh, Joe Wagner, C. A. Clark, E. L. Olmstead and H. L. Seares. E. L. ORCHESTRA REHEARSAL An important rehearsal of the Epworth League orchestra of the M. E. White Temple will be held this evening in Miss Luna Wellman's studio, Central-bldg, promptly at 7:15. Every member is urged to be present. NO STRIKE AT CANNERY The discharge of one or two employees from the Newport Packing corporation plant and the quitting of one or two others in sympathy gave rise to rumors of a strike at the fish canning plant. These rumors were without foundation; it was stated today at the plant at Newport. Not only is there no strike, it was said, but the plant is running full blast. On certain days thirty persons are employed, depending upon the frequency with which cargoes of fish are received.
