EASTERN CLOTHING PLANTS OPENING UP
Clothing factories in the east are resuming, wholesalers and manufacturers of clothing are optimistic and prices of spring goods will be 33 1-2 per cent lower than last spring,a according to information received from the sent by F.A.Yunghluth.
Byads as well as manufacturers from various parts of the country predected a business year.
The cost has been offset by the general slowing up of conditions far more than has the coast," says Yungbluth.
"Thousands of people were thrown out of employment. The factories are resuming and placing numbers of their old employees at work. The factories are not operating to the capacity as in the past three or four years, and it probably will take some months to get back to that point if at all."
"Wages have not been reduced as yet,and until there is a decline in labor costs, further reductions of any consequence cannot be looked for."
"The managers of the larger clothing factories appear to have reached the conclusion that many lines of fabrics have about reached a stabilized price level at the textile mills."
"Hart,Schaffner and Marx,a firm which is a leading factor in the ready made trade, two months ago was advising the trade to defer placing orders until mill prices on clothing became less flighty." This firm opened its spring showing last week and was quoting prices showing recessions from last season's price approximating 33 1-3 per cent.
"It is declared by some trade experts that at the new prices the clothing business is on a non-profit basis for the manufacturer whos greatest concern is to maintain values and absorb overhead expenses."
Buyers from all sections say that great quantities of goods bought at peak prices have been liquidated and that the retail trade,in general,i readjusted to the new level.
Some wonderfully fine suits in heavy weight worsteds are now to be brought from the manufacturers at prices
enjoying a rest.
