Tuesday, January 11, 1921 ORANGE-CO EXHIBIT ATTRACTS TOURISTS By D. W. McDANNALD Orange-co's Representative at the Los Angeles C. of C. LOS ANGELES C. OF C., Jan. 7. If to these old gray walls was given the power of speech, the stories they could tell of the strangers' bewilderment and wonder, at their first view of the great collection of soil products, shown here, our own people would awaken to a keener appreciation of the things that have grown common-place because of our association with them. We had a delegation of teachers, and college professors here last week and the way they took in with eager eyes and greedy ears, the story of our rare fruits was more than gratifying. Some of the most interested lingered long, and then came back to get more exact data. The lecture room is the more interesting place in the big building, and some days standing room is deBessica F. Raiche, M. D. Specializing Obstetrics and Diseases of Women 217-218 First Nat'l Bank Bldg. Phone 649, Anaheim Hours 1 to 4, and by appointment. A. NELSON BEAN DEALER Buena Park Phone—Anaheim 762-5-3 —Fullerton 173-R-1 Most of those coming now seem to be athrist for first-hand information and the illustrated story has such a fascinating influence that it draws like a porous plaster. I have been keeping tab on our literature lately, and I have discoverers that the little Orange-co booklets are disappearing at the rate of 50 a day. It is evident to me that they are appreciated; else the stranger would not part with the postage to send to the "folks back home." Dr. J. H. Jefferson, a retired physician, is on his way to Orange-co with determination written all over his bronzed countenance. He is going to own a home down where the soft winds blow from the sea, even if force must be used. K. Taniguchi, a student in a college of agriculture and forestry in Korea, came in one day and gave our exhibit a hurried inspection, and then came another day, and then a third time. This Oriental was far ahead of his time in the land from which he hailed, but he is here to learn. He shows a devotion that is truly characteristic of the Asiatic. This student will become one of the faculty of the college that sent him on this errand of intelligence. Another distinguished visitor that came my way last week was Mrs. M. Lang, for many years connected with the botanical gardens of Holland. This woman, accompanied by a government escort, has made many extended pilgrimages into the jungles, and almost wholly unknown marsh lands of the Congo, and the lesser Nile. She has laid away on the vestibule of memory a vest pocket edition of the rare fruits of the world but was almost staggered at the Orange-co collection. William L. Alexander, a stranger just here from the fruit growing sections of the Empire state, wants apple land, and says he is going to have it if good money is any temptation. C. P. Haskins wants to exchange a few thousand real dollars for a few real acres in Orange-co. The Sentinney sisters were in the chamber some time ago, and they came back yesterday to tell me they had decided to locate in the "land G. AND L. LEASEE cial.)
