RETURNING SOLDIER AT WORK 5 MINUTES AFTER COMING HERE Anaheim has no trouble in putting back to work all returning local soldier boys. There has not been a single instance noted where a local man has not been able to return to his old job or a better one. On the other hand, a number of men from other communities are going to work here. For instance: W. S. Storey, Los Angeles, stopped into Fitzgerald Bros. garage to pass the time with his old friend, Clayton Fitzgerald. In five minutes he was in overalls and had gone to work. Storey was in service seven months as chief mechanic and instructor of his company in the 39th Field Art. which was motorized with tractors and trucks. Storey having 300 drivers and mechanics under him. The 39th had been held back two weeks at Camp Lewis when the armistice was signed. He is delighted with Anaheim. He says: "I had heard of Anaheim and thought it was a jerk-water town. I certainly was surprised when I got here and saw its modern buildings and evidence of progressiveness. HARRY VON BRUCH AT PLACENTIA SUN. PLACENTIA, April 25—Special—The Placentia Presbyterian church deem it a pleasure to announce that Harry Von Bruch of Chicago, will have charge of the evening service, Sunday (next). Mr. Von Bruch is a singer, a trombonist and a preacher. He was at the church three weeks about a year ago and was certainly benefit to all. We invite all the friends interested to attend this service. He will probably help in the C. E. service at 6:30. HERE IN INTEREST OF HARBOR BONDS Returning soldiers and sailors are urged to register before May 10 in order to vote June 10 on the $500,000 Orange-co harbor bond issue. Lew Wallace and J. J. Armitage of Newport were in Anaheim yesterday in the interest of the harbor. "Whether we vote for the bonds or against the bonds, we want everyone to vote," so as to get a true expression of the county on the harbor proposition," said Mr. Wallace. STANLEY, Prop. 117 North Lemon St. Phone 256 We Have... Have You! WATCH RADIATOR CAUTIONS TAGGART "By neglecting details in your car" says Paul Taggart, local dealer in Chevrolet automobiles and trucks, "you will save yourself some time and inconvenience in getting on your way; but the day of reckoning is sure to come. What you have saved will be spent in expensive roadside repairs. "Not the least in importance is the radiator of your car. At all times it should be kept full or trouble is sure to follow. It is a good plan to form the habit of inspecting and refilling the radiator before the car is taken from the garage. On long tours, especially when you have been travelling over hilly roads or those with a loose top surface, examine the water supply frequently. Consider, always, that the proper amount of water is as important as your supply of gasoline and oil. It is well to examine the water supply every time a stop is made for oil or gasoline. Always use clear water. If rain water can be had, use it, as less scale or deposit will result." "Keep the cellular opening clean. Never allow mud to remain in them as it cuts down the radiation and prevents proper cooling. The entire circulating system should be thoroughly flushed out occasionally. This can be done in ordinary cases by disconnecting the upper and lower hose connections and allowing fresh water to enter the filler neck and flow down through the roadiator and out the lower hose. The motor jackets can be finished out there." DEMONSTRATE APHIS DUST AT TUSTIN Walnut growers will be interested in an announcement that Prof. Ralph E. Smith of the University of California will conduct a demonstration in the use of dusting compound for the eradication of walnut, aphis and walnut worms, at the P.T. Adams ranch, one half mile west of the Tustin post office, Saturday, April 26, at 10 a.m. It is the cheapest that has ever been used for such a purpose, and Prof. Smith states that the same material, somewhat modified, can be used, he believes, with equal success, in the extermination of walnut aphis or the walnut worm. C. Thorpe, general manager of the California Walnut growers' Association, announces that the aphis dusting compound can be had for five cents per pound, I.e., b. Galatea. It takes about three pounds of powder to dust a full bearing tree. It is estimated that the cost of treating a grove with dry dust is about three dollars per acre. SOUTHEEN CO. BANK INTERESTED IN LOAN The name of the Southern County bank was omitted Wednesday from the list of underwriters to the Liberty Loan publicity. As this bank takes particular interest in the success of all government bond drives, it is only fair that this correction should be noted. KILLED IN CAVE-IN Struck on the chest by a large piece of earth, John Hughes, forty, of Newport Heights, was killed Wednesday afternoon. He leaves a wife and six children. The man was an employee of the "Keep the cellular opening clean. The motor jackets can be flushed out in the same way. "When hard water has been used, a scale or deposit will be formed which unless removed, will obstruct the circulation, causing unnecessary heating and frequent refilling. In this case a good way to clean out the scale is to dissolve a half pound of lye in about five gallons of water. Strain the liquid through a cloth and pour in the radiator. Run the motor about five minutes, then draw off the solution through the radiator drain cock." CHEVROLETS LEAD CLASS IN CLIMB Paul Taggart of the Taggart Motor Co. was elated today with the showing made by the Chevrolets in the San Bernardino Hill Climb yesterday, the Baby Grand coming in first and the Four-Ninety second in their class. The Peerless eight-cylinder broke the hill record with 18:00 4-5 for the eight-mile course, Essex second 19:04, Apperson third in 19:24, Chevrolet Baby Grand with 21:14, Chevrolet Four-Ninety with 21:20 4-5, Hupmobile sixth with 21:49 1-5; Studebaker seventh with 22:24. Attaches of the Taggart Motor Co. who witnessed the climb say the heavy cars able to attain a speed of 55 miles an hour or greater were able to make a fine start on the practically level approach to the mountain but that none of them could beat the Chevrolet climbing. FACTORY MAN WILL HANDLE BATTERY Stanley's Buick Repair Station on Lemon-st has acquired the local agency for the Philadelphia Battery, made by the Philadelphia Battery Co. of San Francisco. A battery man direct from the factory, will have charge of this department of Stanley's garage. A crew of masons is rushing the work on the wall for the big 50x80 foot addition to Stanley's garage, necessitated by the demand for largely increased space. STEWART FRUIT CO." STEWART FRUIT CO.
