FULLERTON PASTOR SPEAKER AT OPEN MEETING OF OILMEN
BREA, April 14—Special —Next Thursday, April 17, will be the regular monthly meeting of the local oil workers.
Rev. E. J. Stantom of Fullerton will be the speaker of the evening. There will also be a musical and literary program, concluding the evening with a dance.
Gerald Jennings, brother of C. F. Jennings, landed in New York April 1 and will soon be mustered out.
Pat Loney arrived in New York from overseas April 2. He was in the 364th Infantry, 91st division.
Mrs. C. G. Paxton was slightly burned by a premature explosion of a gas stove last Monday.
Maxwell Kyle is still in the Letterman hospital, San Francisco. He was disabled in Uncle Sam's service through a truck accident overseas.
Ernest Hadiwick has taken a cottage in Fullerton and it will not be long till Artesia loses one of her fairest daughters.
Mrs. John Knudsen, wife of Supt. Knudsen, and son have been quite ill but are recovering nicely, we are pleased to state.
C. C. Julian returned last Monday from Marlcopa where for a week he superintended work for the Tecumseh Petroleum Co.

SEXTON WILL HEAD DRIVE IN BREA FOR THE VICTORY LOAN
BREA, April 14.—Special—Hon.
Jay C. Sextton has received official notification from Secretary of the Treasurer Cartetr Glass that he had been appointed local chairman for the Victory Liberty loan, which begins April 21. A meeting of the various municipal chairmen in Santa Ana Saturday was attested by Mr. Sexton and Editor Jesse Mitchell.

J. G. Sargeant, former hardware merchant at La Habra, has moved to his recently purchased ranch south of Brea and is erecting a modern residence there.
Clyde Forsythe, a cousin of Mrs. E. H. Peterkin, visited with them the latter part of last week. Mr. Forsythe is an artist on the New York World, the originator of "Joe's Car", published in the Los Angeles Express and was one of the fortunate ones to have his designs for the coming Victory loan accepted by the government.
Leonard Cariker has been relieved of a long standing case of chronic stomach trouble. Len says if it wasn't for the H. C. of L. now he could eat almost anything he can get his hands on.
Walter Snardy is back in the oil fields. Six months ago Walt fancied he got a "back to the soil" call and gave up his place with the U. O. Co. to answer it. The lure of the derricks, however, proved too strong and Snardy came back to the Union Oil-Co.
Frances, the seven-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lafredo Contrare, who was seriously burned about two weeks ago, is reported improving very nicely, and it is not thought that skin grafting won't be necessary. She will remain at the county hospital for some time yet.

Mrs. L. H. Wadsworth, of Pasadena, visited friends here the first of last week. She is now enjoying a two weeks' outing at Venice.
Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Yates went into Los Angeles to spend the day and night with their daughter Miss Annie.
Friends of Leo Goss, who suffered a dislocation of the collar bone, will be glad to know that he is improving nicely.
Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Hosmer and little son, Craig, of Alhambra, visited the week-end with Mrs. Hosmer's father, Isaac Craig.

E. H. Peterkin has received instructions from R. C. Grunnell to ship his household good to Eastland, Tex., where he is now located. Mr. Grunnell was formerly with the Amalgamated.
