HALF MILLION NEW CAPITAL PUT INTO OIL DEVELOPMENT WITH THE OILMEN Never before in the history of the oil industry of Southern California has there been as much substantial activity as now. During the past two weeks more than $500,000 of new capital has been put into the petroleum industry and wherever there are any indications that warrant an expenditure of capital no trouble is experienced in getting the money for development work. The resumption of drilling by two oil companies that have not been doing any development work for the past two years, the commencement of drilling on three new wells and the location of five new wells are a few of the factors that give the oil industry of Southern California a healthy tone and a bright future. The southern field now shows 103 wells drilling, 13 new rigs up and completions being made at the rate of three a week. The field now has over 800 wells producing and the daily output is running close to 75,000 barrels. Brea Canyon Co. Unfortunate In the redrilling and deepening of No. 28, a former producing well, the Brea Canyon Oil Co met with a fishing job right on the start. The breaking of a set of jars left the tools in the hole at 2800 feet and no further progress can be made on the well until these are fished out. No. 31, a new well, is now drilling at 2100 feet. At this depth the formation is only brown shale and it in the Brea Canyon district, carry a very noticeable quantity of oil. The Brea Canyon Oil Company have started the redrilling of No. 9 an old well that has been producing for ten years or more. The deepening is expected to restore the old-time production. Fullerton Co. Tests No. 13 No. 13, the Fullerton Oil Company's record well for fast drilling, is being tested out for a water shut-off after standing cemented for a couple of weeks. The condition of the hole looks like a successful shut off has been accomplished and drilling will be resumed at once at the 2300 mark. Deepest Well has Pipe Trouble After drilling to 5233 feet, the Union Oil Company's Bastanchury No. 6, the deepest well now drilling in the state, met with pipe trouble and has been unable to make any hole during the past week. A string of 41-4 pipe 5200 feet in length parted near the top and a week's work in trying to get the pipe together so that the drilling can continue has not met with any success. This well from the standpoint of geology is a wonder. At 4400 feet a blue shale for Fullerton Co.'s Well Looking Fine The Fullerton Oil Company's Travail is well east of the original producing Kramer is now drilling at 2100 feet and is looking better every day. At the present depth the formation is carrying considerable oil and the peets for the well are all that could be desired. Oil showings have been evident since the drill passed the 1,950 mark. General Petroleum Ready The General Petroleum on the Wilson tract has completed the installation of a big boiler plant, the rig is close to 75,000 barrels. Brea Canyon Co. At the present depth the formation is carrying considerable oil and the peats for the well are all that could be desired. Oil showings have been evident since the drill passed the 1,950 mark. General Petroleum Ready The General Petroleum on the Wilson tract has completed the installation of a big boiler plant, the rig is up and the rigging up work has advanced far enough to allow drilling to start now in a few days. Standard Brings in Redrilled Well The Standard Oil Company has completed the redrilling and deepening of Kramer No. 1, the well that made the Kramer field famous to begin with. This well has been carried down 200 feet deeper and as all the deeping was done in high grade oil sand, the well promises to do big things when it is put on the beam. Kramer No. 3 is rigging up and will be ready to commence drilling in a few days. The Standard's Anaheim Union is now standing cemented at 3659. A string of 8 1-4 pipe was carried to this depth and it was thought advisable to stop here, even though no oil sands or showings of oil had been struck. The Lock well continues go on down without any appreciable or encouraging changes. At 3605 the well is drilling in a hard sand, so had that only about 7 and 8 feet a day can be made. Development Work on G. & L. The Graham-Loftus least half dozen years ago was the center of activity in the Fullerton field; two wells are now drilling on the property. No. 51 is drilling at 2800 and showing the blue shale. No. 52 shows 2675 feet of hole and drilling in a hard conglomerate that is slow cutting. The production of the property is holding firm at 2500 barrels daily and is mostly good oil. Olinda Wildcat Holds Interest Interest in the most easterly well now drilling in the Olinda field continues strong. The deeper the well goes tite better it looks.
