Since opening my garage here, I have used The Plain Dealer exclusively for all advertising and you may state for me that I am more than gratified with the results which are far greater than I hoped could be realized in this brief time after opening." The brakes failed to hold, and the machine plunged backward down the hill, falling off into the canyon and turning over several times. Mr. Chatham was plinned underneath the steering wheel, but was soon extricated by his wife and other members of the party, and taken to Laguna, where he remained at the home of Mrs. Harry Warren until the ambulance arrived from Santa Ana. Mrs. Chatham is with her husband at the hospital. W. P. Hughes, navy recruiting officer at the Santa Ana city hall, has just received full information on soldiers and sailors government insurance. Any one at all interested will find every question as to its operation anticipated and answered in the circular. ACTIVITIES ABOUT GUSHER CONTINUE TO GAIN MOMENTUM WITH THE OIL OPERATORS New companies are forming, wells are being located, derricks are now springing up, land leases are being signed up, and wells are starting drilling with such speed that it has become a great task for one to keep up with the tremendous activity that now characterizes the new Kramer oil field. Chapman Gnsher is Pinched Down The great Chapman gusher that started the oil interests of the west three weeks ago, causing one of the greatest rushes for oil properties and which opened up a new and hitherto unknown field, is still the center of interests. The great weil that started off at the rate of 4000 barrels has been pinched down to 18000 barrels a day, and the flow is now coming through a three-quarter-inch opening. LEARN ABOUT YOUR HARBOR, SLOGAN OF NEWPORT CHAMBER "Get acquainted with your harbor" is the slogan of the Newport Chamber of Commerce, which has completed arrangements for free boat rides over the harbor for Orange-co voters in order that all may see for themselves what harbor improvements Newport city has made and what development is proposed to be done by Orange-co thru the $500,000 bond issue to be voted on June 10. The people of Newport and Balboa, who have already bonded themselves for $240,000 for harbor improvements, feel that every county resident and voter should become informed on harbor matters, so that they may vote intelligently upon the bond issue which it is planned shall give Newport harbor a start as a commercial port. With that end in view the free rides with necessary expenses being met by the beach chamber of commerce. All Orange-co residents are invited to take the trip as guests of Newport Beach. They will be taken first to the harbor entrance and shown the municipal jetty, thence to near the Chapman Gusher is Pinched Down. The great Chapman gusher that startled the oil interests of the west three weeks ago, causing one of the greatest rushes for oil properties and which opened up a new and hitherto unknown field, is still the center of interests. The great well that started off at the rate of 4000 barrels has been pinched down to 18000 barrels a day, and the flow is now coming through a three-quarter-inch opening. After getting the well cleaned out and allowing it to flow into the immense sump near by for a couple of days, the production was found to be clean enough to flow direct into the receiving tanks. The gas coming from the well has also been taken care of and the output of this valuable by-product is running about half a million feet daily. This great well stands today an unknown factor in the oil industry of the southern field in that the flow of oil is coming up thrust the 4 1/4 inch casing, and this is not even perforated pipe, and also the sand was just pierced by the drill when the tremendous flow of oil came in and stopped further drilling. What a well a hundred feet deeper will do can only be imagined. Gas Appears Olinda Land Company's No. 21, the wildcat venture of the far east, at 2,900 feet, is showing a shale that is carrying oil and gas in very encouraging quantities. No. 20, drilling in the proved field, shows 950 feet of hole and drilling in shale. No. 19 is cleaning out at 1000 feet, the original depth of the hole being 2970. Mrs. C. H. Weadon went to Long Beach yesterday to remain sparral weekdid fully recover from a recent operation.
