MESSERAL ASKS TO BE PUT IN RANKS TO GET HOME SOON
GARDEN GROVE, April 4. Special—Raymond Messeral, who left for Camp Lewis March 3, 1917, and sailed for France in December of the same year, arriving overseas on December 25, has returned home after 14 months' service overseas. He was promoted to wagoner. He asked to be allowed to remain with the army of occupation and Germany and finding his company would not be sent to Germany he asked for early embarkation home and was told he would be sent home earlier if he were in the ranks and he immediately asked to be reduced to a private, which request was granted and in three days he was sent to Brest, the port of embarkation. Owing to heavier weather he was eighteen days on the water coming home.
Mr. and Mrs. F. Owens of Redlands were in town Friday and rented the Aronhalt cottage at the corner of Eighth and Acacia, which they will occupy during the orange packing season.
Mrs. Warren A. Wheeler returned home Saturday from a week spent at the bedside of her father in Long Beach.
The Woman's Foreign Missionary Society of the Methodist church celebrated the fiftyth anniversary of the founding of the society in Boston, at the parsonage Friday evening.
The speaker of the evening was Mrs. Mae Chisholm Brown, for seven years a missionary in Southern China. A very pleasing program had been erected which in conjunction with the stretch of beach sand and the precipitous walls of rock at the Point, form an admirable setting for this kind of a picture.
PREMIUM FOR BONDS
Twelve bids were received by the Board of Supervisors for the $12,000 bonds of the Greenville school district. The bonds were sold to the State Board of Control at $551.50 premium.
The bidding was another instance of the renewed interest in school bonds, an indication that the money amkret is in fine shape.
Spraying licenses were granted to John Ward, E. R. Mauzy and Roy F. Knight.
Permits were granted to J. C. Galloway and R. L. Tedford for putting pipe lines across roads.
A warning sign is to be placed at the Cerritos avenue crossing of the Santa Fe.
