Social and Personal Miss Marie Lederman of Irvine spent the week-end with friends here. Miss Myrtle Ustick spent the weekend in Los Angeles visiting friends. Mrs. Geo Beckman and baby boy left the Sanitarium Saturday for their home. Frank Reeks attended the Ascot races yesterday. The aerial stunts were great. Bob Phillips of the Sam Hill grocery visited with friends in Orange last evening. Lady and Otto Schaefer took in the races at Ascot Park, Los Angeles, Sunday. Miss Hazel Hawley, who has been ill for some days, is able to sit up today for a while. R. Baker of the Santa Ana gas office spent today assisting in the local gas office. Aubrey and Pete Mathews and C. Ramella enjoyed a fishing trip at Newport yesterday. Miss Mildred Lickenstein of the Style Shop spent yesterday with relatives in Pasadena. Miss Vicenta Doyle, who is teaching at Capistrano, spent the weekend at her home here. Mr. and Mrs. P. C. Curtis and family and Miss Edna Mills motored to San Pedro yesterday. A minor operation was performed on Mrs. C. D. Leach of Whittier the Sanitarium Saturday. Miss Emily Hatch returned from Los Angeles today after spending a couple of days with friends. Miss Catherine Hiles went to Laguna Beach yesterday with relatives and spent an enjoyable day. Mrs. Robert McGill and Geneva Miller underwent minor operations at the Sanitarium Saturday. Jesse Thayer of the aviation school at North Island, San Diego, spent the week-end with relatives here. R. Nagel has returned from San Fernando, where he spent a week with his brother, H. W. Nagel. Mrs. C. A. Watson of San Bernardino underwent a major operation Saturday at the Sanitarium. Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Simpson were the week-end guests of Dr. and Mrs. E. D. Purviance at Santa Monica. Miss Irene Mills and Miss Laura Thomas of San Pedro spent the week-end at the home of Miss Mills. Mr. and Mrs. H. P. Tobin and family motored to Glendale yesterday and spent the day with relatives. Will Doyle and Harold Van Patten, shipmates at the sub base, San Pedro, spent yesterday in this city with relatives. Nickels of Bush-at, who has been stationed at Camp Lewis, has received his honorable discharge and arrived home today. Mrs. Charles Schenck of Wolverton, Mihn is a guest at the home of her sister, Mrs. J. S. Sheridan, N. Lemon-at. Mrs. Schenck plans to remain here several months. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Morgan and John Pierce, of Joller, Mont., are spending the winter in Southern California, are the guests today at the G. M. Simpson and Geo. Tolson homes. S. A. Hatfield, daughter Catherine, and Mrs. C. C. Ingraham have taken rooms at the Mann-apts. Little Mrs. Catherine entered school at Broadway-bldg this morning. Former residents of Hancock-co., Ill., and tourists from there are invited to a picnic to be held at Exposition Park, Los Angeles, Wednesday, Feb. 5. Bring lunch and come and enjoy the day. Mrs. Chas. Criss is suffering with a bad cold as the result of exposure last week when she walked in her sleep. Mrs. Criss today received word that her sister-in-law, Mrs. Ernest Erwin, of Corona, was not expected to live following an attack of influenza-pneumonia. Jack Doty, for some time associated with the Mullinix drug store, has purchased an interest in the Alken men's Association Saturday afternoon at the Hotel Alexandria, Los Angeles. Several prominent speakers were present and gave interesting talks. Byron T. Hanna, well known attorney of Los Angeles, was one of the speakers, choosing as a subject, "Keep the Home Fires Burning." He was followed by Capt. Stromee of San Bernardino, recently returned from the battlefields of France, and a member of the Lost Battalion. He related many of his experiences while in the service. Mr. Henry of the Pioneer Papar Co. spoke on "Now Is the Time to Build." At 6:30 a banquet was served in the dining room of the hotel. OFFICERS INSTALLED The following officers of the Anaheim Encampment, L. O. O. F., were installed Friday night with the deputy grand patriarch, Judge J. S. Howard and his staff as installing officers. He landed in New York Jan. 2. Olinda OLINDA, Jan. 27 (Special) Mrs. Charlie Foster of Chino, formerly of Carbon canyon, died Sunday evening of influenza. Her husband and six children survive. Johnston and wife and son Lloyd of the Olinda Nazarene church, went to the Golden State school house two and one-half miles southeast of Placentia Sunday afternoon and helped organize a Sunday school unit a number joined. Rev. Zachman and wife of Los Angeles, Salvation Army workers; attended the services at the Nazarene church Sunday night. Rev. Zachman preached. Bible Study Class of the M. E. church will meet Wednesday afternoon at 2-30 at the home of Mrs. W. J. Travers of Olinda. They are studying the life of Christ according to St. John.
