GOP Women Hear Review of Murphy ‘Thank You Mission’ Mrs. Robert (Pat) Hitt of Villa Park, former national Republican committeewoman and chairman of the Women for Murphy campaign, was the guest speaker and installing officer for the incoming board of the Newport Harbor Republican Women. Mrs. Hitt had just returned the night before from the final stint of a Thank-you Mission with George Murphy which covered the entire state and included the major cities of San Diego, Los Angeles, Fresno, Sacramento, San Francisco, and Tulare. Murphy expressed his appreciation of the hard work of chairmen, precinct workers, and everyone who volunteered support in the campaign, during teas, receptions, luncheons, parties dinners and meetings. His committee with Mrs. Hitt accompanied him on the visits. Mrs. Hitt gave a resume of the activities of the campaign committee since the June 2 primary. She claims the appointment of Salinger to the position vacated by the death of Claire Engle did more harm than good to Salinger's campaign. Mrs. Hitt told how the women of California assisted financially in electing George Murphy. Eighteen thousand dollars were contributed from individual club treasuries paying for half of the television “spots” of the Murphy campaign. Murphy will be a strong, powerful senator and is planning many new ideas to pre- sent to the Senate in regards to the industry, products, and living conditions of the state, said Mrs. Hitt. Murphy will make his home in California with Mrs. Murphy who is suffering acute arthritis and cannot in the Washington climate will maintain an apartm Washington but his home be in the state he repro "where he will be close people," she said. On Wednesday, Dec. 2, a general meeting and election of officers will be held at 8 p.m. at the Assistance League Room, 124 S. Orange St. Every member will bring a toy as admission to the card games in order that the Orange Children's Home will have a brighter Christmas. Another of the events planned by the club is the luncheon meeting, at 11 a.m. Dec. 10, at the Assistance League Room, with Nancy Hopkins presenting the program "Gifts and Gadgets." Executive board meeting of the club will be held at Mrs. Caso's home at 8 p.m. Patroness Response Continuing A record crowd is expected to attend the fashion luncheon sponsored by the Orange County Philharmonic Society and Newport Harbor Service Center. Deltas Donate Cart to Children’s Hospital The young patients of Childrens’ Hospital of Orange County will be happier because of the work of Eastern Orange County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Delta Delta. Members of the Inservice Volunteers Friday presented the hospital with a large pink toy cart which contains toys, dolls, model kits and books which will be loaned each day to children confined at the hospital. The volunteers are under the direction of Mrs. Angelo Ferraris, who will be in charge of the cart. Tri-Delta alumnae now serving include Mmes. Kimball Norwalkian To Speak, Show Film An exceptional series of slides depicting the High Sierras will be shown Tuesday, Dec. 1, at the meeting of the Orange County Group of the Sierra Club in the Spurgeon Room of Santa Ana Public Library. Meeting time is 8 p.m. Ernie Spiehler of Norwalk, a seasoned hiker and photographer of California's magnificent high country, will narrate and project his color slides. Host for the gathering will be Vern Stiles of Fullerton. Chairman Ben Lindenstein of Anaheim will lead the brief business meeting. Books published by the Sierra Club will be offered for sale at each meeting. Mrs. Nada Hannaford of Corona del Mar is book sales chairman. Tunes from a player piano kept everyone in a toe-tapping mood during the social and dinner hours. Members and guests were seated at tables centered with miniature barber shop poles augmented by white chrysanthemums and red gladioll at the head table. Kibby, superintendent of the local school district spoke about 'Changes in the Orange Unified School District,' before a gathering of the Sycamore Elementary School PTA recently. Kirsch Named to Post Of President Mrs. Howard Kirsch, currently serving as corresponding secretary, was recently named to the post of president of the Woman's Division of the Orange Community Chamber of Commerce.
